Travis Perry to the portal

I wish him the best of luck.

Wouldn’t mind seeing him back closer to home at WKU or Murray.

Really can't be surprised.. this sort of felt like some of these guys had to be wondering if they couldn't get playing time much more easily elsewhere.

I respect Perry for doing what is best for him next season. I’ll root for him, even if he plays us (but for the Cats to beat his team by 90).

In the end I’d always rather lose backups because we built a squad to win by bringing in studs instead of losing studs because we are not built to win.

I wish him the best. He could score over high school players, but not SEC players. and certainly couldn't guard them. If playing time is the issue, more likely Morehead or Western. Those who think Purdue will make a run at him are living in their own private Kentucky- Idaho.

I think it was a decision in both parties interest . Wonderful young man . Incredible work ethic. Deserves to play but we don’t have any playing time for him if we are playing for a national championship. Those are the cold hard facts .

I'd say it's probably a money move to get it while you can. I wish he would stay but It's not hard to understand.
Sad to say but if anyone was willing to offer him significantly more than us, then I get it. If Perry could somehow pull down $2 million while he was in college that would be life changing money.

Hate to see it, but it makes sense. Doesn’t change our outlook whatsoever. Door may be open again in the future if he can put on some weight, gain some confidence and commit to becoming a defender.

Doubt he was pushed out, more likely told and he knows his minutes would be dwindled this season and he may be able to make a little more money than we were willing to pay for a 10-12th man.
I hate to think that fans had anything to do with it on top of all that. There were some legitimate criticisms, but a lot of straight up hateful things being tossed his way this season when he was unfairly thrust into the limelight before he was even remotely ready. He was willing to ride the pine for Cal for as long as it took even though Cal seemed like he didn't want anything to do with him. Can't imagine Pope soured him, so... 😕

I hope he lands on his feet and knocks it out of the park wherever he goes. I'm genuinely bummed he's leaving and hope he comes back someday.

DAMN.

Perry needs to go to a smaller school, I just don’t see him ever having the athleticism to play much at a big school, he played this year because of injuries. Noah can become a bull, if he will get stronger he can help.

Hard to blame him. We were all rooting for him, but for all the talk of potential development, the best way to do that is still to actually play. He wasn’t going to get much run here this year, and it’s an open question if he ever would with the kind of players we’re likely to keep recruiting both in high school and from the portal. Hopefully he lands somewhere capable of giving him a shot, and I hope he does well there.

He's gotta do what he thinks is best for himself. Grass is not always greener. Hopefully he finds a good spot to land. Maybe WKU?

Honestly..oh well. He was never gonna see serious time here in the new SEC. Way too unforgiving. Somewhere like Gonzaga like K Wilt did would work.

Feel bad for the kid. He’s really a one trick pony shooter/scorer with limited size and athleticism…and sadly he didn’t shoot well this year.

Using BPM from sports reference as a barometer on play level, he was one of the worst players we had in the last 10 years on scholarship.

Rooting for him as I have nothing against him. Think he can really shoot it and that’ll show in future years. Think we saw enough this year to know it was just a hope that he could be a contributor by time he’s a senior. Noah having useful size gives him the edge for that end of bench depth role where you can actually see it working.

Pope must’ve heard Goodman complain we had too many players…I kid I kid.

I figured he made decent enough in NIL to keep him happy deep down the bench. I doubt another school can offer him more. Can't blame him for wanting to actually play. I don't think he was as bad as some made him out to be. Got thrown into playing point guard against a brutal conference schedule.

So we have 12 guys right now. Think Pope sticks with that or tries to get one more guy? Maybe there's a grad transfer out there that can hit 3s at a good clip and would be happy just playing for a title contender.

Funny thing is, some of y'all really think Jasper & malachi are gonna be fine with coming off the bench for 3 years too.

This ain't 1970's/Rudy.

I dont think anyone expects that at all. If they're recruited over they will bounce. That's the nature of college sports now.

Which is why we need to win it this year because we're loaded more than we may be able to be for some time.

Hope he is successful beyond Kentucky and can possibly make his way back in the future, wouldn't rule that happening out at all.

The kid wasn't good enough to be here. Ky high school legend, completely overmatched at high D1. I seriously doubt if ANY of the big schools after seeing him play will offer him anything. Would fit well at Murray or someplace similar. Finally he was given a chance by our coach to stay here learn improve and try to help us build something. He chose to leave . I don't want him back as a senior which I also believe has 0 percent chance of ever happening. Much like the kid that decommitted, if he isn't willing to fight for a place in line up WE DONT NEED HIM.

Dude was making 250k here at UK. I don’t think he’s going to get that anywhere else. But the writing was on the wall. Pope realized he wasn’t it after the SEC tournament. Without massive injuries again he wasn’t going to sniff the floor this year either.
