I know you probably started getting into politics in 2016, but just so you know, politics is actually not a team sport. You vote for the best candidate available that shares your ideology and then as someone engaged in the political system you do your little part to try to push the agenda you care about. There are million issues with our political system (2 parties, special interests, Chinese influence, media, etc.), but you or I being able to only choose between 2 candidates should not be blamed for the problem. It’s kinda ridiculous to me that you want to attack anyone who shares a different set of core values from you. What would make us more effective would be to actually understand why people have their beliefs and search for compromise.

Your brain must not have turned on until 2016. Our country was in worst shape starting in 2017 than any other time in my lifetime. This is evidenced by the fact that Trump lost the election by record turnout. I could go down a list of things that were much worse under his administration but I just don’t have the energy for that. You all can bitch about liberals and the democrats all you want but your decision to elect trump is responsible for the control that Biden/democrats now have. Biden was a historically weak candidate who still beat trump by very wide margin. Had the republicans actually selected someone decent in 2016, this country might be in a better place and in different hands.
One can only wonder how you lefties measure policy success. By nearly all objective measures, the country was in better shape than it has been in decades, in some cases ever. The economy was excellent and helping people across all demographics, wages were improving, foreign policy was solid, middle east peace was being accomplished, no new wars, we were energy independent (actually selling energy), ... Hell, it's no wonder why we're divided. You guys must have been listening to the democrat and MSM lies (All now proven).

Obviously, it's BS; if transgender athletes want to compete, have an "open" division. Otherwise, if you were born with a penis, you play with others who were also born with a penis. If you were born with a vagina, you play with those who were born with a vagina. The good news is, an "open" division allows those who were born with a penis to compete with those who were born with a vagina and vice versa, but solely by choice. I was a marginal football and basketball player in HS, but I would have been one of the best if I played on the Girls' team or played Powder puff.

Just curious.. but what was so wrong in 2017.. that surpasses the great depression, great recession, inflation years and whatever the hell the last 2 years have been?
2017 saw nearly 20% growth in the S&P (2016 saw like 10%), we had no recession, job creation was solid. Less riots, less homicides, no cancel culture.
I graduated college in 2009.. and between COVID and being in two different recessions.. 2017 was pretty damn good if you ask me.

There are certain things that he were better, economy being one of them. But people were unequivocally more unhappy with their lives then and now than they were before. I’m not sure how anyone could say a deeply divided nation over a 4 (now 5) year period is somehow a positive development for the future of our country. I mean do you love spending hours a day on message boards fighting with people who have a different belief system than you? Couldn’t that time go towards more productive activities like, maybe actually understanding the issues?
I graduated with my MBA as a 23 year old at UK in 2009. I understand the struggles during that time as much as anyone. I would take that timeframe over the Trump/post-trump era every time, because we knew we would get through it. I don’t know how our country recovers from this division and hatred for fellow Americans.

Sure, the country became more divided under Trump, but that was starting as far back as GWB, and certainly didn't get better under Obama. Maybe we shouldn't be putting all the blame on presidents, instead blaming how society has progressed (or declined). If you ask me, political decisiveness rose because 1. 24 hour news cycle. 2. I really only care about the economy. Everything else is a distant 2nd or lower. And the stuff he did for the economy didn't just affect rich whites. African American unemployment hit historic lows, they saved money on taxes.

I'm not trying to blast you like others here, but I do expect posters to answer for themselves if they make a controversial claim like "2017 was the worst".
