Top potential portal transfers (running list)

Yeah, nobody any good ever went to a mid major. Signed Ja Morant, Steph Curry, Paul George, Damian Lillard, Fred VanFleet, Christian Wood,
Guys like that aren’t coming to Kentucky, Mintz and Grady are no where near that level, Kentucky can get guys like that they just need to be role players not major contributors

Not guys who are in the portal yet (necessarily), but the top guys I think may be able to go into it (I say think because not sure if SRs still have a Covid year they can use or not, lets assume so). But these guys can't be so good that they are 1st round picks. Admittedly I've not watched all 350 teams, not close! So relying on the Stats, at least that can narrow down the list, don't want bigs who get 6 boards a game, or guards who shoot 30% from 3, or guys who score a lot because are a volume scorer.

McGhee, SR G, Liberty, 24.6 ppg, 3.6apg, 45%/39%/88%
Davis, SR G 6'1, Detroit, 23.9ppg, 4.4apg, 43%/38%/88%
Abmas, JR G 6'0, ORU, 22.8 ppg, 3.6apg, 42%/39%/85%
Kountz, SR G 6'4, N.Col., 21.2ppg, 50%/41%/83%
Mosley, JR G 6'5, Missouri St., 20.4ppg, 6.2rpg, 50%/42%/90%
J.Walker, JR PG 5'11, UAB, 20.3ppg, 4.9apg, 40%/39%/88%
Reeves, JR G 6'6, Illinois St, 20.1ppg, 46%/39%/81%
M.Smith, SOPH G 6'4, Chattanooga, 19.9ppg, 6.7rpg, 49%/40%/82%
Pippen, JR PG 6'3, Vandy, 19.9ppg, 4.4apg, 42%/32%/73%
J.Hall, SOPH 6'7, St. Joe's, 14.1ppg, 6.7rpg, 5.8apg, 39%/36%/73%
Brewer, JR 5'8, Flor. Int., 15.2ppg, 5.6apg, 2.3stl, 42%/29%/82% (only if Wheeler left, can't have two 5'8 PG)
Pack, SOPH 6'0 KSU, 17.4, 45%/43%/84%
Pierre, SR 6'4, Rice, 15.3ppg, 4.6rpg, 46%/40%/78%

Cockbburn, JR C 7'0 285, Illinois, 21ppg, 10.7rpg, 1.0bpg, 59%/-/64%
Aimiq, JR PF/C 6'11 245, Utah St, 18.9ppg, 13.6rpg, 1.3blk, 49%/43%/72%
Bacot, JR C 6'10 240, UNCheat, 16.5ppg, 12.4rpg, 1.7blk, 59%/-/70%
Broome, FR PF/C 6'10 235, Morehead, 16.8ppg, 10.5rpg, 3.9blk, 55%/-/63%
Sharp, JR C 7'5 235, WKU, 8.2ppg, 7.6rpg 4.6blk, 72%/-/40%

Primarily looking for guards who shoot 35%+ from 3 AND do something else well, or 3pt shooters who shoot 40%+, or bigs who are either really good rebounders or shot blockers and not undersized.
Why would Bacot transfer?

There was a thread on here last week that he was interested in UK.

Those quality guys would go in the draft. But there is a huge gap between NBA all-stars and college “role players”. I think we can find some that fall into that gap.

Wheeler is alright if he is backup or change of pace guard there will be better options then pippen cal needs to get a good shooting PG who is good at running the offense
Agree completely, 10-15mpg max for Wheeler.

And for those who worry about Pippen or Abmas shooting too much, I'm sure they would be told you aren't coming here to score 20pg on 20 shots a game. You may only shoot 8-10 times. You are here to lead, and to make everyone else better, and by doing so, they will get you open looks for yourself instead of contested ones. Then of course Cal will talk about Davis being 5th on the team in shots, which is OLD for us to hear but does make the point.

I agree I’m not a fan pippen jr, are you? Every time I watch he has 20 points it’s on like 3-14 shooting, there will be better options than him.

Nobody in the “portal” is going to mask Cal’s coaching incompetency. Cal is a lame duck paper tiger coach until he resigns.

Best case scenario, he takes one of the MANY open coaching vacancies, and leaves. Fingers crossed!
CAL needs the best of the best sharpe coming back and that dilingham coming here while getting a shot blocker would be a cal team that he would have success with but his coaching problems would take that team down.

Don’t want pippen he is a black hole when it comes to the ball and is to inconsistent
I disagree. He shoots because he is on a bad team. I've seen him be a willing passer in the games against us. Either way having a PG who can knock down a three consistently spreads the floor so much for what Cal tries to run. As it is the defense dropped back into the lane and dared Wheeler to shoot.

He is a high usage volume scorer cal doesn’t like guys like that

I don't think you want to be counting on Fredrick. I'll be grateful for whatever he can give UK next season, But I think his injuries, especially the last one, will have permanent repercussions. Similar to a torn Achilles, you can recover to play again these days but I don't recall an athlete come back from that and be the same athletically. I say we get some big time shooting & scoring 2Gs in here and hope Fredrick can help too.

Wheeler is the weak link.

Doesn’t shoot it well enough to be guarded out front and rarely finishes going to his right.

Fredrick replaces Grady and the incoming frosh can replace TyTy if he leaves. Our “4” spot can be manned by Hopkins, Toppin, Livingston when Brooks leaves.

Collins if gains weight can shuttle between 4/5.

If Sharpe stays….Loaded roster, but need upgrade at the point.
Frederick is a role player
Grady should have been a role player
The big guy at Utah st would be a nice compliment to oscar
There is no transfer right now or being named that will make a relevant impact. Cal has one shot and that’s to get sharpe oscar and TyTy to realize NiL money and role with them plus the incoming. Screw wheeler some of you still haven’t learned that a 5’9” pg who cannot shoot is a massive liability especially one who turns it with his bricks and tos to the other team on a regular basis. TyTy needs to show he’s a FT pg. get wheeler out.

Sahvir is fine in a back up role but everything else you said is spot on

Yea about 10-15 mins a game depending on situation, or wheeler has to work on hit shot all summer but I think wheeler is what he is that’s why they have to get a good shooting PG
Forget shooting. He will never be a good shooter. Play him only to push pace and sit his butt the rest of the time. What would happen though is wheeler would play a great game and cal would fall in love with him again. UGA fans can’t stand wheeler bc of the way he plays it’s better he’s not even there to look to. It would have been better to have mintz and tyty as pgs and wheeler to have never joined the team. Worst decision cal coulda made bringing him in. And I don’t care about all his assists the guy is chemistry killer

Wheeler is has 2 good plays and then 3 bad plays his decision making is the part the kills me. But being a college player in year 3 his shooting should improve and it really hasn’t. CAL hasn’t had a elite PG since SGA that’s a problem

Cal needs to keep Oscar, Toppin, Collins, Sharpe, Hopkins and Wheeler, but bring in a Brandon Knight style PG and another shooter for the 2.

Get Toppin, Collins and Hopkins on a summertime plan to become elite shooters and rebounders.

With all of that, I still don't think it’s enough to overcome Calipari's stubbornness and lack of in-game coaching. The team described above + the incoming recruits, is not as good as our 2010 or 2015 teams and Cal failed miserably with both of them.

Frederick is a better defensive player than Grady isn’t he. Little better shooter and ball handler?

TyTy broke single game assist record in one of his two starts.
But Kentucky didn’t give him enough looks to be a PG, I agree that one game was good and it would have been great for calipari to give him more run but if we’re going off pure PG, SGA was the last elite one

Frederick is a shell of himself. If we are counting on him for huge minutes KY is in trouble
I don't know that this will be true at all. But I do have big concerns about how far Fredrick can come back toward what he was when fully healthy. I absolutely do not believe that he will ever be the same physically after that torn hamstring tendon. Maybe he gets close enough functionally to help quite a bit, but not back 100%. And although Fredrick certainly didn't rely solely on his athleticism, I think he needed every bit of what he had.

He was often our PG the 10mpg that Wheeler was on the bench, and usually the offense looked better then, more diverse. In the unlikely event Tyty returns, I would have him as our lead PG next year, and Wheeler come off the bench for 10-15 min.

I would like that tyty with another scorer and two shooters around him with a good post player would be a really good offense
