Just stop. Act like you have been here before...even though you apparently have not. You are making yourselves and the rational UK fans among us look ridiculous. UK fans did not do anything wrong. We aren't "reaping" anything. The program isn't less prestigious/powerful than it used to be. Just stop.

Cal was here 15 years. He left unexpectedly to get out of town after a terrible stretch that is unacceptable at any top school, much less UK. That puts UK in a spot where they are forced to choose among the current pool of candidates. We can't make up good coaches out of thin air. And you can't look at the coaching situations in the abstract. This isn't "OMG, HURLEY OR DREW AREN'T COMING, THAT MEANS UK HAS LOST ITS LUSTER!!!" That is just childish and ignorant. Every coach has unique circumstances:
  • Drew clearly wanted to come, which is why he sent his family. If his family wasn't so big, introverted, religious, and firmly established in Texas (including finishing a house they have been building), then he is here easily. They just don't want/need UK basketball, which is fine and probably the right result in the end. If Drew was younger with no unique family situation, he is here in a heartbeat. It isn't as though he would leave for another top school, just not UK.
  • If Hurley loses on Monday night (and/or if his immediate goal wasn't the NBA), then he is here in heartbeat. Again, it isn't as though he would leave for another top school, just not UK. He just won back-to-back titles at a big basketball school for crying out loud. Acting like UK has lost its luster simply because we can't pull Hurley is absurd. We can and offering him to be the highest paid college coach in history -- that is the UK power. If he turns that down, it isn't because of UK.
  • If Oats didn't agree to an insane buyout, and if the Bama AD didn't refuse to negotiate that down right now (as typically happens), then Oats would be here in a heartbeat. (And on top of that, apparently Oats is going through a divorce right now with child custody issues, so that is making any move basically impossible this year.)
  • If the NBA timing for Donovan was better, then all indications are that he would probably come.
So as you can easily see, this isn't a "OMG UK IS GETTING TURNED DOWN BY EVERYONE!!!!" It is just a bad cycle to be in a coaching search because not many top coaches are available, and the ones that are technically "available" are not actually in play. So, again, just stop. Step off the ledge and enjoy the ride -- it will work itself out.
