That is the most overblown statement ever, it’s about matchups and personnel usually the same the third time around

Matchups, matchups, matchups

UK cannot beat Bama period, but they can beat UT 3 times

Why it’s matchups and personnel

Time to put that old axiom to bed

In 2019, we beat Auburn twice before the tournament. Then they beat us in the Elite 8.

Tenn may not get there ucla and Utah state both are decent teams you got to remember tenn has a hard time scoring other than Lanier they don't have a prolific scorer . We are a bad match up for tenn

I think there's a chance we have the Vol's number this year. We shouldn't have beaten them on paper either game and we did.

Its not impossible, but remember the 2012 team beat Vandy twice regular season and lost in SEC tournament...

We don't have Cal anymore. Part of it was Auburn was scolding hot in that tournament, but I'm going to say most of it was Cal. Just look at Cal's results in the tournament after that 2019 loss. Embarrassment, after embarrassment, after embarrassment.

My first thought when I saw the draw as well. Why the Vols they’ll be out for blood.

Then I looked at the other two seeds and considered it not so bad. We avoided Pitino, Izzo, and Bama.

Both teams have to get there first. I'll worry about Tennesee when Tennesee is in front of us. We have two more ballgames before that and we're still banged up. A run to the Sweet 16 rests on a bruised and battered shoulder of Lamont Butler

Unfortunately, it IS hard to beat a good team 3 times. It just is. Okay, let's say we are better than them, but how much better? Let's say we are so much better that you expect us to win 4 out of 5 times we play -- we are much better than them. So any one game you figure we have an 80% chance to win. Now, that remains true in any one game, and technically if we meet them that is just one game, so we would have an 80% chance of winning.

However, our odds of winning 3 out of 3 against them is only 51.2% in this scenario. Winning 4 of 4 would be even less likely, at only 41%.

Team that wins first two, win approximately 72% for game 3 - because of the matchups

According to STATS LLC., there have been 981 similar matchups across Division I college basketball over the past 10 seasons. The teams entering the third game 2-0 are a combined 710-271 (.724 winning percentage) in the third meeting.

UK can’t beat Bama no matter how many times they could play this year, but they can beat TN

Zakir Ziegler freezes up against Big Blue, in fact their whole team has some mental block

The theory usually is used by team that won first two and lost last game as an excuse

Enjoy the ride, one game at a time. Almost every tourney each team no matter how good, has a game they could have lost. UK will have to be on their A game more than ever. I think with the leadership (guys that have played in tourney), we will be fine. Does not mean we win but out of our region (our half of the bracket) we can beat all teams and we could be upset by most of the teams. I think we will be in the 2nd weekend. From there it will be a toss up. We might have 2 hard wins this weekend or we might beat 2 teams rather easily. Just have to see how it plays out. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!

Gotta love the insightful comments from these posters, 'We gotta get past Troy first”…..well no sh-*t sherlock! It's not like we didn't already know that. Still, speculating about potential future matchups is always a fun way to pass time and engage in discussion with basketball junkies.

We have two games as does TN before that match up could occur. Personally, it will be a dog fight to get to the sweet 16. Not saying we won't or can't, but we best bring our A game. In the NCAAT, throwing your jock strap on the court will NOT get you a win. Back in the 80's and 90's it might get you a few wins since very few schools cared much about basketball. Today many mid-major programs can beat your ass if you are not focused. Ask Cal if it can happen. This year there are 10 or 12 schools that could win it all. NIL has dispersed talent so much that there is not a slam dunk projected winner. I doubt going forward there will ever be a dominate program in college basketball. Too many schools today care about basketball and most have deep pockets.
