This game shows why recruiting is important

EXACTLY!!!

Those 2 are STUDS!!! and are AND were BAMA's best 2 players. Oats went to the final 4 last season, plays an attractive style and Bama pays there players pretty good, so he is going to get the VERY BEST from the portal.

BUT, Coach Pope ONLY had 2 months to assemble this team!!! They are competing with EVERY great team on our schedule!!! Give him another year or 2 and UK will be getting the BEST out of the portal AND from the HS ranks!!!

Today should be a reminder of how DIFFICULT it has been for coach Pope and UK STILL is competitive. With Coach Pope's style of basketball, which is JUST AS FUN to play in as Oats, it won't be long before we are back at the TOP again!!!!

Patience is HARD but will be worth it in the end!!!!
This. I wanted to get upset several times during the game ... and had to stop and remember that Pope did a COMPLETE rebuild in a matter of days, 50-60 days or so?

Now if this was against a crappy team like UK had lost to many times over the last 3-4 years, then that would be different. but bama is #4 for a good reason.

But UK loss may move dUKe to #1.

All that happened is one team hit more shots down the stretch than the other.

The back to back 3s for Bama to extend the lead to 9 was back breakers.

But we also have guys that have made big shots down stretches of games.

It is what it is. Just an insanely competitive conference.
I'm rather tranquil about this game.

We played well enough in the loss. We have a smidgen better shooting luck swing our way, we win.

Nelson was from mid major, but he was one projected as first round in mock drafts. He did have talent. But the portal frontcourt guys we recruit do not have huge talent (except for maybe Garrison), and this causes huge problem to our physically, rebounding, defense. Imagine we have Randle or Bam in this game and we wins. Talent is important
So just move the goalposts when your post gets shown how riddled with holes it is? 😎. So it was about recruiting …. but now it’s about “talent”? Got it. Learn to admit when you are wrong, my guy

Carr and Robinson both didnt play well today! We might've survived with one not playing well, but both against a team like Alabama will result in a L.

Then you have Almanor and perry miss a couple 3's that they normally hit. If those 2 hit 1 of there open misses it would've really helped!

A lot of little things added up to this loss. When you have a guy go off for 30, those things don't matter as much, but when you have several guys not playing there best, it matters a lot!

There are a number of things Pope can clean up that might not be glaring if you are hitting shots, but regardless. They need to clean there defensive rotation/help defense big time.

I also would like to see them double team the pick and roll up top at times! Force the ball out to half court. Force a reset, if you can't stop teams, you might as well try creating more turnovers ect!

It doesn’t seem roster is quite set yet for next year. At least 8 current player will probably leave. But it’s interesting.

I disagree somewhat. Sears and Nelson killed us today. There’s a reason neither is playing in the NBA. Both portal guys.

Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the opponent. We played well, they played a little better.
That’s it. They made the plays down the stretch and the Cars didn’t

The Butler block but then the throwaway was the point where they got the separation

Yep. Sometimes you just credit the other team and move on.

They shot the 3 and made their free throws today at a higher rate than they have this season. Credit to them.

I do tend to think tho.........Auburn, UT, Bama are a step ahead of the other teams in the SEC. Oats was probably right. That is a better 3 point shooting team then they shown this season so far. Scary to think their offense could get even better lol.

Recruiting is the most efficient way to get talent. You can not get very good talent in portal.

In these types of games (vs top 10 teams), talent is very important.

Garrison and Oweh are the most talented (also most highly ranked) players in our roster and they are best players of us on the court in this game

I see what you're saying here, but with NIL and the portal, recruiting matters less than it did. Obviously, having a Cooper Flagg is nice, but you need talent, however you can obtain it.

Pope is a system coach, he looks for specific things and outs then in a system. Cal recruits talent.

We don't have a player on the team who can clear out and take over...yet we have a team with ppl having career high averages in star categories bc they are inserted into a system

Our portal talent beat what.. five top fifteen team this year including Duke and Gonzaga. I suspect the Cal era is over, unless there's a couple of more Anthony Davis's lurking around out there.

Wrong Robinson was a no show in both the Gonzaga and Duke games.

And that isn't a sustainable model for this team. Gonzaga is always overrated anyway. They beat up a bunch of nobodies in the WCC then get a home court high-seed always in the west. They've lost to us, west Virginia, uconn, ucla, and Oregon st..basically every real team they've played. Their ranking is all reputation

107

I completely disagree with you.
Portal talent is more experienced, more mature, and stronger. And thus portal talent is more reliable.

Just look at Ark who is getting almost nothing from 2 of their 3 highly rated recruits.

I don’t think anyone has said HS recruiting is not important. It is. But it’s not more important than portal recruiting.

Garrison is not the 2nd most talented on our roster, he is probably 7th.

Alabama, only Philon, Diabotte & Stephenson were HS recruits for Bama. The rest, including their best 2 players were portal guys.

I agree 100% with this ^^^

Recruiting is very important .

The portal and HS recruits
Yes, you're right. Recruiting today means both feeder pools. But I think the data says returning good players is the real key to chasing championships consistently. So, recruiting with an eye fixed toward development and multiple year players is much more important to winning than worrying very much about signing an OAD player (who also, value wise, shouldn't be getting anywhere near the highest NIL money). The best recruiting is actually having a good enough eye and foresight to get really good projectible freshmen who aren't OAD and will eventually become the best players in CBB (e.g., the college All-Americans & All-Conference players).

I agree . You definitely need guys to return . Hell at this point that is also part of recruiting. Penny said on the knickheads podcast that in this era you have to recruit your own players back.

Read elsewhere that Auburn has TWO RSCI top 100 players.

Great point. I forgot that aspect of recruiting which may be the most important. I'm biased, but I think Pope will be really good at this aspect.

He has the personality for it for sure . I don’t think you’re being biased in what you said .

The way Acaden Lewis dad has talked about Pope just shows great of a man he is.

Well you should be happy then . Does Alabama have anyone on there roster that was higher ranked than the 3 freshman we have coming in ?

The bottom line is getting talent. Whether that be through recruiting the very top HS recruits or by getting portal guys that maybe were overlooked by recruiting or they just developed later.

You’re crazy as hell . If Nelson had been projected as a first round pick he would gone to the draft.

Looked at OP’s posting history. Seems to be one of those guys that mostly posts about recruits and recruiting. Probably brainwashed by Cal . It’s like he’s more interested in that aspect of college basketball than the actual games .

There should be a breathalyzer to create threads after games.
Well, I had to take a break from the website after being disgusted by my own toxicity, only to come back and realize all the posters I look up to were even more toxic lol. What is this bastardized form of entertainment?
