Now look at a map of nato with Russia... Who is doing the surrounding? People have told DC neocons that Russia would see Ukraine as a redline since the 90's. Every administration, both sides of the aisle have all said Russia views Ukraine in nato as a clear danger to their national integrity. Most of the invasions into Russia came through the area now known as Ukraine. There is a reason there are so many ww2 memorials in Ukraine...
China doesn’t want a NATO aligned Russia on its doorstep. China doesn’t want US Troops on its borders in Korea.
It’s really not that hard to comprehend.
Russia is no threat to China. They are a useful tool. Putin restores the territorial integrity of the Soviet Empire, it weakens the United States, expands markets for Chinese exports and further accelerates Chinese dominance on the global stage. Putin doesn’t care because he has what he wants: a return to the “ glory” of the Soviet Union and basic control of the European continent.
We would have saved the world a lot of time and trouble if they had took the Soviet bureaucrats after 1991 out in the street and hung them instead of Clinton and Yeltsin letting them sell off their country piece by piece to enrich themselves for the sake of “ rebuilding” the Russian economy and “ fostering democracy”.
The players didn’t change. The game did.
The mechanism to prevent all this is already in place, and Ukraine has no bearing on it. That mechanism is NATO.
NATO is nothing but words on a piece of paper if the United States of America doesn’t back it.
It’s literally written on paper that an attack on one is an attack on all.
