The Ukraine war. (Yes, we'll mind our manners)

If you look at one of my previous posts I talked about future Russian strategy would be to constantly rattle Poland and NATO along the Polish border and count on Republican efforts to weaken NATO and make America more isolationist with their anti-war rhetoric... and now you have exactly that with Russia and Belarus reaching an agreement to put nukes right on their Polish border:

Putin says Russia will station tactical nukes in Belarus

What Putin is calculating is that the Republican Party will continue to try and weaken NATO and torpedo US public support in Ukraine.

It doesn't matter if it is by accident or design as we could start a whole new thread about Republican and Russian ties and funding, but as a matter of certainty the Republican Party is effectively a propaganda wing at Putin's fingertips. It is amazing how Republicans continue to do things that support continued Russian aggression in Europe and make Taiwan more appealing to the Chinese by the day.

Good job, Republicans. Keep emboldening Putin in Europe and China in Taiwan and see what that gets us.

The reason China is watching Ukraine so intently as it directly informs their decision on Taiwan. Taiwan, unaided by the West, still would represent a hornet's nest to take if you intend to have anything left of the island to be worth taking. Of course China could level Taiwan, but to seize it they have a difficult logistical fight on their hands.

So the entirety of the Chinese decision on Taiwan must rely completely on their calculation of how willing the world would be to aid in its defense. Ukraine, sitting at Europe's doorstep, is the test case and they are watching intently to see where the weakness is. Example A in that weakness would be Republican efforts to demonize Ukraine and undermine US support for it at the behest of the Putin propaganda machine which somehow owns Trump Republicans.

The world must show that it will remain committed to resupplying Ukraine and the US in particular needs to continue to make it clear we will militarily defend Taiwan. If cracks appear by defeat in Ukraine and continued isolationism by the Republicans, then China will be in Taiwan sooner rather than later.

By your definition I'm sure I am. I agree with Reagan that at this point our world only achieves peace thru strength. Unfortunately, sometimes that strength must be demonstrated.
I prefer to mind my business and suggest that you do the same, old man.

I’ll bite. What do you think “China does” that is responsive to the post? Sincerely.
China sets a value for its currency daily and by doing so forces trading in a particular direction. Amusingly, they also use the dollar as support. Their currency is totally manipulated. Comparing what we do to that is ignorant.

Agreed. That is one of the main reasons they likely won’t overtake the dollar, unless the international community is led to believe China will create more stability in the Yuan.

Not to worry. All he wants are the Ukraine provinces he's "annexed", right? I mean why get all concerned over someone who is just involved in a territorial dispute, right? Anyway, that's what I've read here over & over.

Tell that to those concerned about Putin moving nukes to Belarus.
Do you seriously think I give a rat's ass about Putin moving nukes to Belarus, you bitter old buzzard? I frankly don't care if he actually nukes Belarus, do you understand me, old man?

Old man, WE are the evil. My God, man, do you know how we utterly obliterated Iraq?
Well there you have it. Stated plainly and clearly. So now we know who is who. All the folks on that side now know who they are keeping company with. Not that it will shame them in the least, but it is out in the open now and undeniable so they have to own the side they are on.

America is the evil in the world, not Putin, Russia, Iran, and China. Everyone has made their choice and the line in the sand has been drawn. OWN IT.

Old man, WE are the evil. My God, man, do you know how we utterly obliterated Iraq?
No.

We obliterated Hiroshima.

We foolishly fought an extended Civil War in Iraq on behalf of a governmental system that still exists, against those who did not want that system.

Not that attempting to civilize either Iraq or Afghanistan was wise . . . .

Unwise, wasteful, destructive and divisive?

Yep.

Evil?

Evil in Iraq would have entailed our kidnapping thousands of children to literally prop up our population numbers.

Evil in Iraq would have been exhibited by our selfish desire to permanently expropriate Iraqi territory as our own.

Evil in Iraq would have been shown by our theft of Iraqi resources to render them further impoverished.

And “Evil” in general can be found in callous statements of inhuman, unChristian disregard of the fate of millions of humanity, wherever placed:

“I frankly don't care if he actually nukes Belarus,”

Same Russian nuclear weapons that Hillary and Obama sold our Uranium to?
Maybe.

But according to your fellow travelers on this thread, the Clinton’s helped arm the good guys!

The decision to drop nukes on Japan was absolutely the correct one. We were looking at casualty estimates of a million men to lay siege to mainland Japan. On Okinawa alone 100,000 Americans and Japanese had died just for that one island. The Japanese had hit us with over 3500 Kamikazi attacks already and the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor was of such obscene cowardice that we had no empathy left in us.

The casualty totals for Hiroshima and Nagasaki were 70,000 and 80,000. Many times that number would have died along with up to a million troops in a drawn out war where the Japanese were loath to surrender until the last man. The Island hopping battles were gruesome and bloody enough as it was.

The manner of war the Japanese conducted was particularly brutal even by war standards. They are hated to their core to this day by Filipinos. I have known many and to a person they still did not forget or forgive the Japanese. I don't know any but I would imagine there is no love lost with the Chinese over what the Japanese did to them as well.

They waged a different kind of war and it was just about impossible to get them to surrender in battle. Prior to dropping nukes on them we fire bombed the living daylights out of them and it didn't phase them in the slightest. It was nukes or a million American lives and again, that was absolutely the right call to make.

All true, but revelations of their slaughter of American POW’s in the Philippines, documented and widely published in the Western Press in late 1944, fueled “the Carnival of Death.” After the publication (in ‘44) of high quality pictures of Japanese beheading American and Australian troops (taken originally in 1942), American Newspapers began openly suggesting a War of “extermination.”

We killed at least 20 times more Japanese by firebombing than by the atomic weapons. Curtis LeMay, dissatisfied with high altitude bombing results, loaded his B-29’s with jellied gasoline, and sent them in low. They were close enough to the ground that airmen vomited from the scent of burning flesh.

250 planes is a lot of firepower, and that’s just 4 countries. The NATO alliance combined air power in totality is much more, a rather significant force.

Russia taken Bakhmut yet? Wagner has thrown EVERYTHING at that town and it’s still being held by the good guys.

What, Sweden & Finland aren't in NATO, but they're helping each other? Strange concept given all that want to give no help to Ukraine.
