They were both two of the greatest catches of all time.

I like your enthusiasm but no way Maclin's catch is one of the best all time. It's not even the best UK catch of all time. I'll take Dicky Lyons Jr vs Mississippi State. Heck, Key has a few catches this season that's better. Dorian Baker had some great ones as well.

With the ball as sticky as they are now, combined with gloves that are also grip aids. it's a bigger deal dropping one than catching a one hander.

I am not familiar with sticky balls or gloves, but I have seen many catches the last few years and thought there must be some kind of assistance to make these one handed receptions.
