Anyone else noticed that the media and many fans have cooled on the vicious articles about the one and done players and how it was ruining the college game and also bad for the players in the long run? I can't remember the last article I read about it.
Calipari was absolutely demonized by most of the media, opposing fans were critical and even the players themselves were called hired mercenaries and how happy they did not want anything to do with these guys. We read how coach so and so was winning the right way, great program and all the accolades they could give.
I would love if someone could get a close count of how many of these articles were written. Now, when Coach K won a championship, he had evolved and changed with the times, pure genius on his part. Kansas has bought into the game, upgrading their facilities to try and sign that one and done player.
Where are the articles just bashing these other coaches? Fact is, this is the Calipari way. Calipari is a trailblazer, a leader who is always looking for an edge, the best way to win. Remember so many said you cannot win with freshmen, Cal and K both have proven that you can. The fact though, is K, Self, Miller and others want to win the same way. Calipari deserves the Hall of Fame on the 1st ballot. I remember in his book and many rants he had over players not getting enough food. This was changed and the credit went to, never mind.
Cal broke it down with Anthony Davis's big contract. With the NBA 4 year rookie deal, this made AD sogn this at 22. He will be 27-28 when the next one rolls around. Had he stayed in school 4 years he would be 30-31. If healthy his next contract will be 200+. Guess what, young enough still to get a 3rd big contract. Had he stayed 4 years, in his case it might have cost him 200 million +. Roy Williams would have begged on his knees to convince him to stay, in the players best interest you know.
His daughter Erin tweeted something like, "yes he can be an asshole, but he absolutely is loyal and has the players best interest at heart.
Trying to remember the biggest haters, sports writers, TV and radio who were relentless on demonizing Xalipari and Kentucky. I hope my fellow BBN can post a few of the goodman, I mean good ones.
Why has the media forgot about the game being ruined?
