THE golf thread

^^ I get the feeling that they are a little more open to people playing their course than a lot of other private clubs. On their website they even offer a complimentary round. Tell them you are moving to the area, are a X handicapper and play on X course or a member of X club. Doubt they'd turn you down.

Or, just tell them you've always heard it was a great course and really would like the opportunity to play it, they seem to be pretty relaxed.

I still haven't played Olde Stone, and have been meaning to every summer for the last 5 years.

Mark O'Meara has some pretty good advice for Tiger IMO. Simplify things. Just go out and hit some balls, just think about hitting the ball in the center of clubface. Hit it where you aim. By yourself, no coaches, and work it out.

This sounds like the way Ben Hogan used to do it.

I have been consistent in my belief that Tiger would make a real comeback and become "Tiger" again. However, I am off the bandwagon and I think he is done. Jack's record is safe and now I am starting to think he might not win ever again. His body and his mental edge have completely broken down and I am not sure he can ever recover at this point. This is no longer Tiger and Phil's tour. Hopefully, I am wrong and we can get a year or two of a Rory and Tiger rivalry but it does not look good for Eldrick.

My hopes now would be to just at minimum break Snead's record. That's a big record and could stand longer than Jack's record. There is still a ton of time left to get the game back and win 4 plus times.

I think he will play Bay Hill to test his game again. If he indeed has the yips and can't fix them before the Master's there is no way I'd risk showing up at Augusta and being even more embarrassed. He's in a hole now mentally and you do not want to go further in a hole.

What's crazy is it was just a year and a half ago he was blowing away the field at the WGC and winning player of the year. With the injuries and poor performance this thing has gotten real bad mentally. A break is a good idea and if he needs a year off then take it, but don't come back to a place you could really embarrass yourself and lose even more confidence.

I know it's cool to hate Tiger and laugh/ mock this stuff but man I hope we get at least one more little run from him. Just so much more fun.

Dude's like Micheal Jackson at this point with all his makeovers and changes. Get back to playing and loving golf and stop trying to be perfect.

Yep. I'd like to see him see a sports psychologist (if needed, and I personally thinks it's needed) and get rid of all the confusing swing thoughts. Go play golf and quit trying to make the perfect swing every single time and get rid of your coach who jumps off diving boards with golf clubs. I mean, I bet his coach can't break 75. Way too much clutter in that mind, free yourself up and add to the legacy.

Lee Trevino once said he could hire a golf coach when he found one who could beat him.

Classic.

Ian Baker Finch, who knows a little bit about going from great to awful, finally said what I've been saying on here for years. It's all mental. He can't take it from the range to the course when it counts.

"I would hit 50 perfect drives on the range, and snap-hook it off the first tee," Baker-Finch said on SEN Radio in Australia. "[Woods] does exactly the same thing. At the first tee at Augusta every year he's so nervous he hits it 100 yards off line, and he's just hit 50 perfect drives on the range. You can't tell me that that's a bad back, or a swing flaw. It's totally mental. It's a fear. And it's not the yips. It's not a spasm. ... It's a fear."

It is mental but he's also mentally strong enough to win 5 times in 2013. The bottom line is he is thinking too much and trying to be too perfect and probably too obsessed with length because of the young guns.

I think a guy like Trevino would be perfect for him, an older mentor who doesn't make it difficult and would free his mind up.

John Daly playing great so far at the AT@T. Heard on XM radio that they think Tiger needs to just go to an old man swing. Meaning he need to quit trying to keep up with the young guns on the drives. Hit it out there 290 in the middle of the fairway and go from there. Fire another swing coach Tiger and call in Paul Azinger.

Trevino, Palmer, Player, Nicklaus, Watson, Player, etc. The greats of the game played their entire career with one swing. Tiger has rebuilt his 4 times. Now he don't even know who he is as a golfer.

Looks like Furyk spit the bit again today with a 54 hole lead. He has not won a tournament with the 54 hole lead in like the last 7 or 8 chances.
Seems to be a great guy, but man he has to get his nerves under control if he wants to win again.

Good win for Snedeker.

Pebble should be one of the best events on the calendar but the combination of 3 courses and pro-am makes it awful. Saturday's CBS coverage of C-list celebs hitting shots in slow-motion was unbearable. It's one of the most beautiful settings in golf and somehow it's unwatchable.

I only watch on Sunday. I don't want to have to watch every damn shot Bill Murray hits on Saturday.

I thought they said during the broadcast it was 9, so this makes 10.

Saw this article which that compares the rise and fall of Mike Tyson to Woods. Good comparisons and builds a credible argument that like Tyson fans simply cannot come to grips that their idol (Woods) is never going to be the elite golfer they saw dominate in the 2000's.

First to admit I was one of them that kept hoping he had another run in him. Not because I am a Woods fan, but to help market the game of golf to a new generation of fans and to help promote a sport that is struggling right now. Like him or not, Tiger draws patrons, ratings, sponsorships on tour, and revenue for the sport all around.

I am about the same age as Woods so its hard for me to swallow that guys of my age who dominated their sport are fading (Woods, Garnett, Duncan, Bryant, Peyton, etc). Really starts to prove that father time really does exist in all of us.

I firmly believe we have seen the best from Tiger. He may find a way to get his game in good enough form to win some more tournaments, but do not think he ever wins another major. Will go down in history as having one of the biggest falls in modern golf and sports history.

So the European's had a big laugh over the Americans deciding that the Ryder Cup Captain would be picked by a committee and David Love III is the choice?

Couples has been very critical of the way the PGA of America handles the Ryder Cup. He said there is no need to even have the task force or committee or whatever it's called that picked Love. So no surprise he wasn't picked. And I don't think Azinger wants to do it again. I think he'd rather stay the undefeated genius who won when nobody else could/can.

Bet he woke up this morning regretting that decision.
I disagree. He didn't make a single bogey coming down the stretch, had a great chance for birdie on 17 and 18 just didn't make the putts. It happens. He played 18 the same way twice on Sunday and went par, birdie. Hard to criticize his strategy.
What was he 235 to the pin? Hell I'm a 10 handy hacker and I can probably clear that water and put it on the green or close 7 out of 10. Like I first said, great imitation of Don Johnson. Birdie wins it, and you lay up. And like I said, worst case you put it in the water and still can get up and down. That same ol American golfer timidity that costs us Ryder Cups. IMO
If you are a true 10, I will give you 2-1 odds you can't get it on the green 1 out of 10 times from 235,with tv cameras and 100's people watching.
I'm with KYfaninNC

Have any of you played Oxmoore CC or Harmony Landing in Oldham? If so, can I get a little break down of the course.

Yep, we choked it away last two times and now they want the biggest choker in recent history to be Captain? Smart move PGA.

Yes. There is a foot of snow on all the greens, fairways, bunkers, tee boxes, etc. Cart paths are pretty much impassible.
Well done! Got a laugh out of me.

Played both, but its been since college. Harmony is the better track. Tree lined, rolling hills, very old-style feeling. Solid track. Comparable to a shorter, more hilly Lex CC.

Oxmoor is decent- not to difficult, I think Pretty similar to like a Houston Oaks in terms of layout, I think. Some doglegs, some water, some OB, but nothing terrible. No real standout holes, but no really bad holes either.

What more do you want to know?

Sounds good. Just trying to figure out what they are about because I may play a tournament at one or both. Both are in April so I may choose the easier of the two if I play. Thanks!

Sweet, just started playing the neon yellow Bridgestone's late last year.

After falling a few times on the ice, found out that by wearing my golf shoes with the rubber spikes when I have to be outside the house, makes getting around much more manageable and safe.

LA has a Kentucky Open feel to it

JB, Justin Thomas in top ten plus Derek Fathauer (didn't he play at UL?)

Not sure, but Justin Thomas looks to be the real deal.

Not a Tiger fan, never have been, never will be, he is a pompus, arrogant asshole, that gives nothing back to the fans.

I've gotten to the point of actively rooting for Sergio... but bogey/bogey to lose it (including a par 5) was brutal.
