Nico failed to show up at practice and Coach Heupel told him good-bye. I understand Imaleava cannot transfer to an SEC school when he enters the portal. So we may have seen the last of him. UT did all of us a big favor by not allowing a player to run the program. This will come up again at another school. I hope it sends a message.

Great to see that Tennessee had a spine.

I am all for fairness. You can say what you want about player compensation through the years, but it has swung too far in favor of the "Students" I personally worked my a** off in the 70's just to be able ultimately to walk on. Several walk ons in my Freshman Class ultimately became starters. My former teammate at Lexington Lafayette and fellow walk on Steve Williams eventually made All SEC. No one thought they were being ripped off by being given a chance to shine.

College Football has turned into the new professional Minor Leagues. The players are now being OVER COMPENSATED for their services and drawing power. The pendulum needs to move back to the middle or they will destroy the sport.

Thank God for this SEC rule

An SEC rules prohibit transferring within the conference in the spring if the player desires immediate eligibility. . . . So he can't go to an SEC school and no quarterback on an SEC roster can go to Tennessee if they hope to play in 2025.

Id love to see teams hold firm and noone bring him in, but my money is on a big 10 team. They throw money around like crazy.

Obviously I’m not a fan of UT and Chumlee but good for him to tell Nico to take a hike.

Fk "letting him go" or "saying bye."

UT should sue him AND his agent for non-performance. He signed a contract. I'm tired of everyone kissing asses, but trying to look tough/righteous in the media.

If they want to get paid like professionals, they need to fkn SHOW.UP.TO.WORK. In fact, sue to get some or all of the contract money back since he agreed to a deal and walked out on it. Sue to make the school that is tampering with him pay UT for the rights they legally contracted, and their loss of value. Sick of people holding someone hostage while they have an agreement in place. Make them sit out a year even until it's settled.

As far as I'm concerned, this prick owes somebody what he committed to in writing.

Something has to give. This current system is insane. I applaud TN decision. I hope, although I know it'll never happen, no other school picks him up. Or, at the very least, signs him for less than UT so he understands what can happen when you're an egotistical a-hole.

Oregon. I think it has to be. There had to be a ton of schools talking to his agent before this happened.

There is a HUGE reason the NCAA didn't want agents involved on this level. There are no rule followers in that group. Simple gray area operators even when there are no gray areas.

Yep, need legal binding contracts to slow down the ridiculousness.

How awesome would it be, if not another school in the country would have anything to do with Iamaleava...... Filthy, dirty NIL money & the Transfer Portal is ruining college sports.

The NCAA has ruined college sports.

They went flaccid for decades and let big programs control the association. Screw em. They refused to hold anyone to a standard and chose arbitrary/capricious rulings instead of a clearly defined judicial system to mete out punishments for infractions. Their officiating is equally capricious and piss poor.

It's a dog that won't hunt. Needed to be retired 2 decades ago, before everyone realized how completely corrupt and inept it had become.

NCAA was greedy, now they are paying the price. How did they think that they could make money while Ed Obannon couldn’t get anything for his image being used on a video game?

You know what I think really pushed this over the edge?

I think it was the death of journalism in favor of "if it bleeds it leads" as well as the greed of admin and media. I found out that athletic depts were making money DIRECTLY off of the athletes' images back in the late 90s. What really got them in trouble was not paying the photographers for the image rights. That opened the can of worms I think.

Lawsuits and articles about all of that got the lawyers involved in ways they wouldn't before. Before that no one looked at it at all because there was zero money in image rights outside of major media productions. That changed when the attys figured out how to make money off of it through the athletes.

He doesn’t fit in there!! He hasn’t robbed anyone or beat up any cops!! He is just not tuff enuff!!

I see you’ve never read an NIL contract before. They’ll have no grounds to sue.

Too many red flags to list. Any school offering him a big salary can't be surprised if this blows up in their face. Heupel is considered a QB guy, he passed on bigger payday. They didn't rely on Nico's arm last year, instead opted to run the ball and play stout defense. If he does end up having a good statistical year, what's that going to cost?

Didn’t they pay him $8 mil before it was even legal
No, but his 8 mil deal was to be paid out over the four years he was supposed to be there. Do $2 mil per year. He was asking that to be raised to $4 mil per year.
The correct answer is yes, because they used the $8M deal to RECRUIT Nico to UT, which was definitely illegal at the time.

Starting as an SEC qb gets attention that other conferences don't produce. Let him move west for more money and less eyes.

SEC League rule. UT also can't take a QB from another SEC school unless they sit out a year.

Is that a new rule? BC it didn't impact Brock last year did it?
It's the timing that is different. A player can't transfer in the Spring Portal and be eligible for that year. They can transfer in the Fall and be eligible for the following year.
