FB Recruiting Take it down: The case for cleansing the rafters

I'm just curious & mean this as an honest question...but would you be so deeply offended if someone said they enjoyed Rupps tenure more, or Joe B's? Or it it just RP's tenure that bothers you?
More factors than wins likely determine what period they enjoyed more. It does for me.

I've lived through the end of Rupps tenure until now. I've loved UK hoops throughout, but my favorite period is also RPs. I was in my 20's, single, money to burn, had season tickets in the lower arena, travelled to Big Fours in Indy, Kuppenheimer Classics in Atlanta; to Sec tournaments in Atlanta & Memphis; and to NCAA games in Charlotte, Nashville, Indy, Detroit & more.
And none of my reasons are in any way meant as a knock to Cal, who is in the middle of great run all his own.
But now I have more responsibility, other commitments, etc.

I'm sure some recall their favorite periods as Rupps time, for similar, nostalgic type reasons...same for Joe B's etc.

Not everything is meant as a slight to Cal.
So your enjoyment was because you were single? Not sure what you mean. So now you don't enjoy it as much because you are married and have kids? Don't really get that.

Not expecting this to get a lot of traction in the media but I'm of the opinion that a strong case can be made for removing Pitino's name from the rafters. NOTE: This is only my opinion and I believe good, reasonable people can disagree.

STORY: Take it down

The relevant debate is whether Pitino's behavior subsequent to leaving Kentucky has been outrageous and offensive enough to justify removing the name of a coach who won a NC at Kentucky from the rafters of Rupp Arena. It's a big step. There is not a right or wrong answer. Different people will have different opinions on this. It boils down to thresholds. But I will tell you 1 thing. Pitino's extended middle finger to the Rupp Arena crowd last Saturday is the low point in his anti-Kentucky behavior, and the low point in his relationship with Kentucky's fans. The national media is crushing Pitino for it. This immediately adds to the Powell scandal, which hasn't specifically implicated Pitino yet although everyone believes he had to know what was going on. All of this is disgusting behavior, impossible to defend. If Pitino is ever going to be taken down, now is the time. I personally vote to take him down, but that would be a huge step for Capilouto and Barnhart to take.

Could we just move it to the most inconspicuous spot in the arena or hang it upside down? Only joking. Just leave it and we can talk about it forever.

I agree with Tubbys banner going up. But to even mention Pitinos coming down is just silly. Visions of witchunters and people burning books pop in my head every time this is brought up. The guy went to Louisville so what. He did so much for our program while he was here and that's how I choose to remember him. I also wanna add that's what that banner is for. A remembrance of his time @ Kentucky and that's why it should stay.

I don't share the fascination with Pitino. He was a great coach for UK when we needed one. What he did when he moved on is none of my buiness. I don't meddle, nor do I dwell.

Who do we have next, and are we ready?

UK basketball brother. It ain't for everyone.

I understand. And being a Cal worshipper isn't either.

As for me, I'm proud to have been a UK fan for over 40 years.

If you ever want to answer my original question, I would be happy to read it. Have a good day
