Stoops is inept at player mentality

I think that's a pretty bad take. You definitely can't say that about the defense today..team is about always playing hard and upbeat. Stoops issues have been game management and offensive mindset or philosophy.
Agreed. This is the one complaint about Stoops I wouldn't make. You're going to lay some eggs every once in a while. It sucks but it happens, but Stoops has been very good about getting his teams ready to go 90% of the time. They almost always play hard and motivated.

Effort and energy have been a staple since Stoops has been at UK.

Disagree 110% with OP.
I’m not sure how you couldn’t with a 7-5 record. With losses to usc, Vanderbilt and a drumming from Tennessee

I didn’t say they always play good.

There’s a difference between playing bad and not playing hard. This team has played some bad games this year. I never thought it was an issue of not playing hard.

These are 18-22 y/os, they don't need someone to hold their hand to get ready to play. They have to do a good portion of their motivation/focus themselves.

It’s not a matter if they want to play but are they ready to play. They don’t handle adversity well. They aren’t ready to make a n important field goal. Etc

It feels more like it's a mental rollercoaster from week to week as far as how fired up they might be on the sidelines
Agree, this is why UK is hard to figure out. I don't think it is all on Stoops. Game management and offensive strategy are questionable but he seems to have his player's back when the chips are down. We need an OC that will be here 3 or 4 years

College football is a game of shifting sands when it comes to players and motivation. NIL doesn't help, neither does the transfer portal.

Really think about what happened to UT last night(while we are enjoying it) They had everything to play for and laid a scrambled egg. UF and Vandy, crap happens. Stoops and Co. are more even keel than over half of college football

We are better off than in the Joker, Brooks, Morriss, Mumme, Curry eras

Every loss does not have same cause. There is not a touchdown difference between SEC teams 3-10. (I still have Ga and Ala 1&2.) Getting beat is not usually related to effort.

I may be splitting hairs with some people, but players looking hyped on sidelines is rarely an indicator of mental preparation. Jumping around is easy to do.

I’m not a sports psychiatrist nor did I stay at Holiday Inn last night. Most of us know the feeling of momentum or when things are spiraling out of control. In golf it’s called “the yips!”

This team lost confidence during the year. (Mainly talking offense and special teams.) I think Will lost confidence in OL. I think OL lost confidence in themselves. I think some players are frustrated and OC becomes an easy target. But, I don’t think anyone QUIT. I saw a stat that our long snapper, holder, and kicker are all 3 the same as last year. (Great ST play last year.) Now, the snapper is snapping worm diggers or air mailing it over their heads!)

Mental confidence is huge part of the game. Coaches are certainly part of the equation. Stoops has earned equity with being able to help UK overcome obstacles that long time fans never thought possible!

Now ... NIL and the transfer portal are here to stay. Stoops has to make some hard decisions in the next few weeks regarding offense while hopefully keeping White another year.

I’m fine with either decision he makes with Scang. To me, the question comes down to whether Scang has lost the room and how can he recruit. Unfortunately, coordinators have to go if it’s going to cost you top players transferring out. (I understand a few players will always be unhappy with their coordinator.) I’m not happy with having 5th OL coach in 4 years. But, there seems to be a disconnect between Yenser and players.

Playing hard is the least of my concern with Stoops.

This off-season was gonna be Stoops' most crucial one yet. But with this extension and buy out. He has some cushion

Stoops has coached players as the underdog for 10 years. He is having as much an issue as the players at being the hunted. The mentality is a lot harder to deal with over the underdog mentality. Lets hope he has to deal with being the hunted (meaning we win more than lose). He should be able to figure it out.
