Did Reed Sheppard lose his “Lifetime Y” card?

Honestly, I never really got the Reed mythologizing. People put him up there with some big names in our history. He’s even on the bittersweet symphony video now for some reason.

At the end of the day, he was a one and done that had a really nice personal season but won nothing of note for UK.
Well, it’s not hard to see why he was mythologized. A white small town Eastern Kentucky kid who’s the son of a UK legend and also really REALLY good. Probably the most talented player ever to come out of the part of the state that worships UK most.

He’s like what a Hollywood scriptwriter would come up with if told to create the perfect character for the BBN to mythologize.

But, yeah, in the end he didn’t do squat for UK. Just an underachieving team that couldn’t even win its conference and embarrassingly flamed out of both the SEC and NCAA tournaments.

Reed was my favorite player of all time. Hes dead to me now.
Fav ever ???? Dude wasnt in my top 25 before this brain dead stunt . To me he will remember as a solid player , no star at all, and a guy that choked as badly as any player in UK history in the NCAAT , and this stunt ... thats what I'll remember him by ... he should move to Ark and retire , because his basketball career is going to be short . I hope

Jeff & Stacy,
Don’t bring him back. You’re welcome to join us IF YOU WEAR BLUE. You’d think a kid who grew up in a UK apparel household would have more sense…but then again, Freshmen in College aren’t the most wise.

I’m sure his parents aren’t happy about that choice either.

Agree.

This comment makes it even worse. To think this game was something to make a "joke" about after the way his OWN one season here ended with Cal as the coach is EXTREMELY short-sighted!!!

The fans of UK buy a WHOLE LOT of former players gear when they make it to the next level, especially WHEN someone from Kentucky makes it!!! Just not a smart business move even if he didn't really care what the UK fans thought. Which is still mind boggling to me considering Cal was FORCED to actually recruit him and his dad was Coach Pope's room mate while they were at UK.

Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm just SHOCKED by this!!!
Lol, Cal was forced to recruit Reed now? 🤣

He's probably wondering why it's such a big deal to us. Its the timing, kid.
No. That is exactly why it bothers me so much. He DOES know. He grew up here. He was us. He knew exactly how that was going to be seen by us fans, because he was us growing up. Reed is telling us he chooses Cal over Kentucky. So, he can go watch Arkansas when he is done playing basketball because he is no longer welcome here.

1. Same coach that had you on bench for his real boy DJ.....
2. Don't bother actling like you're a KY fan Reed....

Do the pig sooie chant with your weirdo mom at Arkansas.....
If Reed was benched, how did he average more minutes?

Nick Young Wtf GIF

His prefrontal cortex is not fully developed. In about 5 years he’ll realize how dumb this was.

I've always been amazed at how easily people love someone when that person says or does certain things they like/want, but as soon as they don't, that love dissipates almost instantly. It's almost like that love was never based on the person but rather the gratification of getting what one wanted.

This is just a poor investment in the future. It doesn't look like anyone is going to remember his NBA career. He would've always had a home with BBN. Players need to take a look at Givens and Kenny. They are more than just former players. Pope is the same. Don't burn your bridges kid. We would've remembered you. Now we'll remember that gameday shirt.

I get what you’re saying, but NBA players also didn’t make anywhere remotely near the same money in Givens and Kenny’s day. Thus they had more reason to keep bridges unburned back then.

A 19-year-old handed a $46 million contract ain’t concerned about what the BBN might be able to do for him later in life.

There’s a woman on Twitter that said Stacey has been wearing Arkansas gear and even did so at the game.

That’s 2/3’s of that family that can GFT’s.
Well if that’s the case I hope I never see any Sheppard associated with UK again. Hopefully the people in this great state will turn their backs on them enough and they take their asses to Arkansas.

He will be back to do the Y and everybody will go crazy as normal. Just have to wait until Cal retires then his players will come back to do the Y
I think you are really serious. Why the hell would anyone want them back if they have to wait until Cal is no longer coaching before coming back to UK?

Actually this is how relationships work- when you learn they aren't who you thought they were, the love dissipates. Here, we learned that Reed never was about Kentucky, but was only about Cal. Fine, Go root on the Razorbacks son.

Anyone else think maybe Mark and Jeff had a falling out after Reed went Pro. Find it hard to believe that the Sheppards just decided to be pro CAL over KY.

Or you become overly emotional and look for meaning in things that aren't there just to further fuel a rage and resentment. Twonof the biggest relationship killers are paranoia and jealousy.

People are allowed to like things and associate with things you may not. That's life and how real relationships work.

He wore a shirt in support of his former coach and teammates and work UK shorts in support of his former team and state. Sounds like a pretty reasonable compromise if you're being a rational person.

Was trying to think what to compare this to, and I realized it had a similar vibe to Rex Chapman spewing Cal to the Lakers nonsense on championship game day in 2014.

At least Reed isn’t a pill head robbing Apple stores.

CCC may have been his coach, but which university did he play for ?

Yet ANOTHER overhyped player that fizzled out on the college level after a single (in the end, pathetic) yearly attempt to prop up a failing HoF coach's career.

Lost me for life, the boy. He's an afterthought for me now, along with all the past 5, 6 years of NBA talent CCC wasted at trying to piece together and claim it was a team. I've no use for those that act that way. Player or fan alike.

I'm not at all emotional about this because its not a big deal to me, that said, there is nothing rational about it.

The kid grew up a Kentuckian, both his parents played for the school, his Dad played on a national championship team for KY. The CURRENT coach of Kentucky is a former teammate, close friend of the family and watched you grow up.

You played 1 YEAR for Calipari. Your whole life has been about Kentucky. You know what it means to the fans.

It was a terrible decision and its a spit in the eye of the fanbase that loved you since you were in diapers.

No, not at all reasonable. Are you kidding? On the day we played them? He can support Cal 364 other days of the year, but not when we are playing them. I don't recall Jamal Mashburn, or any of Pitino's players, suddenly wearing a UL shirt when Rick came back to Rupp.

It's obviously not a small deal to you either.

He was recruited/followed by Cal for 2 -3 years and had obviously built a pretty good relationship with him. He seemed to have a very strong relationship with him since. I have had teachers for a semester or year growing up that I still have strong relationships with today. Sometimes you just connect with certain people.

It's not like he dissed UK. He literally had on UK shorts. Even said he loved and was pulling for UK to win, but that he also supported his former coach and teammates. Seems pretty reasonable.
