Seems to have coincided with his divorce. Just saying.

Not making excuses for the guy. But I think sometimes when people are getting paid 9mil a year we tend to forget they are people just the same. The complete lack of discipline this team (and last year’s team) displays is a direct reflection of Stoops, and really makes me wonder what’s going on in his personal life.

Of course… he may just think we’re all rubes who are happy with music city bowls, he got paid, and now he’s just mailing it in. That’s probably the more likely scenario. Occam’s razor and all.

Friggen autocorrect got me. I thought this phone was supposed to be smart.

They divorced in 2021...the same year UK went to Citrus bowl and beat Iowa.....so hard to correlate his personal life with professional life.

Divorce isn’t something that just happens and then it’s over. The after effects can manifest for years, particularly when there are kids involved. He’s been batchin’ it up the last two years while we have sucked azz. There’s no stability in the program. But like I said he probably just got paid and checked out.

Stoops signed his last extension around November 20th of last year. He received a raise in excess of 2mil per year. I see the decline starting after that point. We beat UL then showed up for a scrimmage against Iowa. Now for 2023 we have this train wreck.

ANOTHER GREAT CONTRACT ‘Thanks again Brainfart’

Well…rumor has it he moved out in 2018 and this thing got finalized in 2021. So again it’s hard to guess this is correlated. Maybe it is

The bigger correlation is we can’t establish a goof offense and have not developed a Qb very well over the entire stoops tenure

It could be divorce, but I subscribe to the departure of Coach Schlarman theory.

First: The Big Blue Wall hasn't been the same since he passed away (although we benefited from his developed players for a season...maybe two afterward).

Add to it, I detected that Coach Schlarman seemed to be somewhat of an advisor...maybe even a mentor to CMS.

Everyone needs a trusted advisor: Sometimes leaders need the close assistant who can speak truth to power (the biblical rebuke of King David by Nathan is often used as an example in religious studies and even corporate leadership training).

Who is having the one on one discussions with coach and telling him the truth he needs to hear? In Schlarman, I think Coach Stoops may have lost the wise man on his staff (a fellow tough guy) who could say things such as: "We better take a round turn on discipline"...."The run game is our firewall...we have to stick with it when we start to lose our edge"....."Someone needs to publicly yank a knot in __________'s a$$ and I am willing to do it for you coach--just give me the word!" (you can fill in the player's name in the blank space)....."We maybe need to sit starting QB for a series or two (or a quarter) to focus his attention"....."Maybe we need to run the WRs up and down stadium stairs while carrying a large brick in each hand until they turn into a pillar of salt to reinforce the importance of their hands in brining in passes"..."We can't be paid millions as a coaching staff and then turn around and blame the fans....". Stoops doesn’t have to take the advice, but he still needs the advice regardless.

CMS looks a bit lost when the breaks go against the boys as they did in the 2nd and 4th quarter last night. He is saying silly things in press conferences and call in shows.

He may need his Nathan (or Schlarman 2.0).

GBB!

I have always been amazed that we were ever worried about losing him to another program. He would not have been able to leave his kids in Lexington after the separation if he moved several hundred miles away. But Mitch blinked and made him a top ten offer knowing this.

It depends if you have a good looking stunner on your arm. Stoops 9 million contract means he’s in demand by the lovelies of Lexington of which their are many.

Stoops has no suggestions or gives any encouragement whatsoever during the game. Not showing the emotion he once did IMO.

Yeah you've clearly never been divorced. The repercussions usually sink in for at least 2 years afterwards.

Every time I’ve seen him at keeneland he’s looked sloppy/drunk, going back to the beginning of his tenure. Take that fwiw.

There has not been any more stability in this program than now since the 50's.

Stoops has been living the party life and seems to be enjoying that and his bourbon company a little too much. That’s where his head is

Yeah, not sure if I could live on $3m/yr.
Bet he isn't netting anything like that from his coaches salary, roughly 55% taxes, 10% agent the ex getting, child support if it applies, and the ex getting 40% of the remaining. Yes still more than most are making, but most aren't having their every decision Ed questioned. If CMS was practicing being single while still married that alimony thing is real.

I vote more on the mailing it in, we were 5-0 going into UGA pretty close to bowl eligibility, stoops knows that admin will be fine with a music City bowl.
I sayail it in because it's obvious that UGA we didn't even hardly get off the bus, and against Mizzou we atleast walked into the stadium but effort all around was pitiful.
Stuff like that starts at the top ..we wasn't ready to compete in either game. Now we have TN, Bama, USC, and State, and apparently a much improved UL. We can't mail it in in any of those or what was 5-0 can easily and most.likely will turn into 5-7 or 6-6.

But it's okay, no big deal. Stoops says if anyone can do better they're welcome to try, that line there tells me all I need to know. No real accountability.

I predicted that the 2018 and 2021 seasons would be the high point of Stoops era and longer he stays the worse overall his tenure would be. Just like Calipari, Stoops has seemed to lose the fire for coaching once he gets essentially a lifetime deal. 2030 in sports deals is a long time.

I have had season tickets for over 30 years and from the fake punt Saturday night until the final horn, I was pissed off. This is one of the most frustrating teams I can ever remember. That being said, if you thought UK football was going to improve every year over year, then you are not living in the real world. The truth of the matter is that programs ebb and flow. No program is consistently improving, or consistently at the top of its game. Just because this team isn't living up to our expectations doesn't mean anything with respect to the state of the program.

In 20+ years of going to home games, I have left before the final buzzer twice. once was a late game and it was sleeting, temp dropped like 30 degrees in a few mins. So I left with about 5 mins left in the 4th quarter. sat night, after the 2nd drive in the 2nd half (10 total plays), I told my wife, lets go, this isn't getting any better. Stoops slowing the game down is killing any offense we may have. And his play not to lose has costed us many games. I get he want to stand behind his players, but if one of them is dropping half the balls that hit him, it don't matter how great he rating is, put him on the bench to think about how to get better. If the QB throws a great pass, and then 3 bad passes, next QB up. Heard Devin Leary hits all the throws in practice. How well he does in practice don't win games, it is how he play on Saturdays that wins.

Yeah, I’d bench some guys and wouldn’t give a crap if they transfer. What good are the wr’s if they can’t catch, slack off on routes, and refuse to block; screw their measurements or speed, give some clock to guys who bust their ass and don’t feel entitled. Also, tell the habitual personal fouls and holding guys that if it happens two games straight to just take their shit off and leave the stadium. Just sick and tired of watching these guys get coddled, it absolutely has an effect on the locker room.
