Steve Jones; Marrow Would Like to Meet w/ UK Administration

That's a really bad way of phrasing it. He absolutely has the right to ask UK to match an offer. The fact that he's giving us a chance to do so shows that he would rather stay.

Pay the man what the market demands...
honorable of him to give Ky a chance if that's the case.

Doesn't UK have an AD that's supposed to handle this type of thing? Or has the AD refused VM's request to match UM's offer and VM's going over the AD's head?

Even if its more than the Offensive or Defensive Coordinators make?

I say yes, but will Mitch?

IF we cant match Mich offer we might as well shut down the football program, this man has brought in more 4 star players in 2 yrs than Joker orBrooks did in 8 years,so lets step up if we truly wont a football team

If someone else wants them and CMS believes them to be an integral part of his program, pay them whatever anyone else is willing to pay. Football is the most important sport on UK's campus moneywise. If paying coaches more is good for Football, the other sports will ultimately benefit. How else can they afford to pay the women's bball coach as much as they do?

My guess is the offer is significantly more than he is making here. I'm also guessing that if UK is willing to get anywhere near it he will stay. I don't think UK will have to match or beat it. He just wants to be paid what his market value is. Nearly every coach does this at some point or another. I don't blame him. I think he likes it here and would like to stay with Stoops. So, if it's a matter of getting a bump in pay, Mitch should step up.

With that being said, I don't think you can pay him more than the OC or DC are making, regardless of his recruiting skills.

There's lots of ways to structure a deal so his salary doesn't exceed the coordinators. This is a huge threat because you don't just lose the guy, you then are competing against him for your established pipeline. How this plays out will be another clear indication of how serious the AD is about the FB program.

Like I said earlier, pay the OC/DC a dollar more than you pay VM then the "problem" of him making more than the coordinators is solved. Is MB blowing this thing?

I sure hope our admins are willing to cough up some extra money if that is what it will take to keep Marrow here. And it at least sounds like if all things are equal he'd rather stay here. But UK's history of "doing things on the cheap" when it comes to football certainly gives me room for concern. Hopefully they have wised up and realize what an asset Marrow is to this program.

Isn't the AD's money either, might as well spend it on something that we need, agree?

for the love of everything, this is beyond stupid.

This is a watershed moment for the football program. The old UK administration would let him go. The new forward thinking program will pay fair market value to besides Stoops, the second most important part of the program. It will be a MAJOR setback if they let him go. Let's see how committed they are to keeping the program going forward. I admire Marrow for even giving us a shot. Hard to turn down the hottest name in college football right now.

This is a case where if the money isn't spent, it will cost the program a helluva lot more down the road.

The coordinators would love for UK to pay VM say $50,000 more than they make. As an business owner, I know the next step would be to bump up the coordinators at least $100,000. And maybe even raise up other assistants too(since they're low by SEC standards). We got SEC network money set to flow in. Let's use a little of it to keep top staff.

Hmmm, without us fans they wouldn't have any money to spend. Or a football program.

This moment could be the "tipping point" in UK's football program.

You have a chance to show that you're serious about being a major SEC player, by paying the guy that's bringing in SEC caliber players enough to keep him from Michigan MICHIGAN!!!!

Or, you can immediately drop the ceiling for this program by letting him go.

We're either gonna do this, or we're not.

We renewed our season tickets because I believe in this program, but letting Marrow go when you could keep him would
cast a BIG shadow on this program.

Here is the litmus test for UK, its administrators, and in particular the AD Mitch Barnhart:

Pay the man what he's worth to a real football program and keep him, thereby proving you are sincere in building a winner here

OR

Tell him to go pound sand and admit everything said and done up to now is just a footnote to 60 years and more of failure

I can't tell anyone else on here what to do, but the outcome of this situation will determine whether I buy season tickets next year and start attending games again...

...or not

The ink is still wet on the new OCs contract and the DC is essentially a DC in training. neither have a right to quibble over paying what it takes to keep Vince, in fact paying Vince benefits them in the long run as they will have more tools in the tool chest to work with.

some of the season ticket holders that make those hefty K-fund donations might disagree with you.

1. We don't truly know what UK's money situation is if they have it to spend. If there is $$$ Marrow is for sure the appropriate target to spend it on. Elliott isn't setting the world on fire as DC, Nothing on offense is really setting the world on fire either. Let's all be honest...the only part of Stoops that is eye opening from UK's past coaches is recruiting which is by far...mainly Marrow.
2. If we don't cough up the $$$ (or don't have it)...I'll wonder how wise the Stoops extension was if his raise handcuffed our abilty to keep Marrow. Stoops isn't worthy of being 5 highest paid SEC coach...which is where he'll be (I know other SEC schools will pass Stoops up in time) but that is huge $$$ Mitch gave to Stoops with not a ton on field to show for it.

It's not a matter of whether they have the money or not, but how they spend it. Think of all the season Football tickets that have been sold that have a mandatory Kfund "donation" attached. The minimum donation being $100 per seat. That money can and should be spent on Football though we've been told in the past it is used to support other sports. Lest we forget the big $ coming in from SEC network.... The money is there....If it's not, they need to question their priorities.

You have to wonder exactly what his title will be at Michigan, cause with the numbers being thrown out their either they have the New York Yankees payroll or there will be some complaining real soon by their assistants.

Harbaugh took a cut off of his contract to pay assistants. UK needs to become a program that throws the money out there for the best.
