State of 2023 Recruiting

Oakdale is the top school in TN for FB?

The last ten years I was thinking Memphis.

Oh, were you talking high school only?
It isn't Oakdale it is Oakland. Oakdale is some school a Tard fan mentioned. Oakland HS has been the best TN HS team for a few years. I get your pun that Memphis is the top college team though 😜

Is Oakland one of those football magnet schools that top players like to attend? Ga. Has several of those

They've been good for a while but have expanded their reach in recent years. And, as I've stated prior, mid-TN is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. It's 6A, beat long time powerhouse Maryville in last year's State Championship game.

They play Maryville is the semis every year. They are 3-2 in the semis against Maryville the last five years.

I don't know if their a magnet school but as stated a real fast growing area south of Nashville. They are really well coached. Looking at the best TN state prospects they don't have a player listed in '23 I guess they will now.

I grew up in Murfreesboro. Oakland has always been good but last 5 years have been nationally good. Murfreesboro area as a whole has really good teams. I went to Blackman and was same class as Jauan Jennings. The Blackman-Oakland games the last 2 years I was in school were incredible. We played twice a year because we would always meet each other in quarterfinals of playoffs.

No they are not a magnet school, they are a public school in Rutherford County. There are no magnet high schools in Rutherford County. There is not a lot of recruiting that goes on in Rutherford County but some does go on under the radar just like it does everywhere else.

As he should. Barnhart has made it clear he's not all in on NIL just as he's not all in on alcohol sales. Great AD who has let his crusty, out of date personal views cloud his decision making.

Stoops after 10 yrs has enough goodwill and hand to use, if in fact Barnhart is limiting NIL in recruiting. If its true, he ought to step up and say it loudly and frequently.

"My AD's philosophy on NIL and wishing the future won't happen is severely limiting our recruiting. As a result our winning ways will be much harder to maintain. I'm instructing my agent to renegotiate my contract. Clearly the yearly renewal needs to go down from 7 to 5, based on the Athletic Directors policies."

Silly me, I thought we were past the time of the UK AD hamstringing the football program. This shit effing gripes my ass. Hopefully the AD will get his head out of his ass and recognize the damage he's doing. It's just absurd!

Considering everything Matt posts about football is just what Marrow tells him to say, it’s concerning he mentions this costing us the staff if it doesn’t change.
That's what worries me. Stoops has got most of what he's asked for to be able to compete. If NIL is the ticket to success and we handicap ourselves I could see him bolting for a lateral move and not even wait for a dream job.

We had a staff with several Good recruiters and several of them left around the same time. Most of the guys we have now are unproven. You throw NIL on top of it and here we are. Probably going to have to have a big year on the field and get some momentum late.

Makes the portal all that more important.

Can’t sleep so it’s time for a rant.

It isn’t looking good boys. All this ground Stoops & Co have made over the last decade is going to go crumbling down because NIL. Losing a KY kid to Tennessee especially when they’re the #1 recruit in the state is a stinger. I’m also afraid because we’ve fallen so far behind Stoops/Marrow are going to have one foot out the door. It looks like we’re going to get some good news with the Keenum kid but after that I don’t know. Portal is more important than ever.

I posted a couple months ago right after NIL had just started and said “relationships will still matter”, clearly I was wrong. It’s money and just like everything else money has ruined College Football.

Isn't the OT out of Philly, Bertrand, committing/recommitting today, July 4? Or has UK's chances shot there too?

And before someone says I’m against athletes making money off their NIL. I support it in its original purpose not giving 8 million dollars to a kid who won’t be on campus for another year. That’s what I wish the NCAA would crack down on.

Yeah, I've heard that too. Looks like UK pretty much pissed away the June OVs.
Unfortunately, it’s going to stay like that. OV’s don’t matter unless you show the money now and we’re showing crumbs while everyone else shows whole ass dinners.

I think NLIs are part of the problem but it could go beyond that. Stoops had to replace 5 assistants over an 8 month period, could be those guys haven't stepped up their game. I think the current problems could be a combination of the two. More commitments are due this month. If UK's drought continues Stoops better appoint somebody full time to the portal.

UK can't compete against this. I don't care who the AD is.

100 percent this. Like I've mentioned before, it's somewhat ironic that Matt is way more of a basketball fan than football; yet Stoops and Marrow have become good friends with him. While Cal won't even talk to him.

It's become apparent when something is going on, Stoops or Marrow let Matt know about it so he can let it get out to the UK public. He is the unofficial spokesman of UK football, isn't that crazy? I'm sure that's been a thorn in Mitch's side for awhile. But now things are about to really amp up.

We are currently near the bottom of the SEC and putting up a worse class than Stoops first years here. You can't tell me the two don't correlate. Especially considering the recent success. There's no way we should be trailing Vandy right now. Of course...I will admit it's way too early and things will change between now and the first signing day. But it is alarming.

Especially when UL is putting together an historic class by sending Adidas shoe boxes full of money to recruits. Granted, they have their own issues coming up. Staring down the barrel of a new version of the Big East is probably not too appealing.

At least it's not just us. UF's AD is very anti-NIL as well which has lead to poor recruiting from them.

The more I zoom out and look at the state of college football, the less inclined I am to watch it. I think now might be the time to pick up and walk away.

Old habits die hard.

I’m 59, and would roust my lazy arse teen body up early on Saturdays to watch pregames and catch Leonard’s Losers, whilst trying to avoid my Dad and any farm chores he might think of.

Rainy Saturday’s in the Fall were blessings.

On one sunny Saturday in 1977, I watched the brief pregame of our trip to Happy Valley (Penn State) and got summoned to some farm duty: I got back home in time to see Rob Bromley’s post-game with Curci.

I don’t watch college or pro hoops. I was never a NASCAR guy. The NFL was always a good place for UK players to get rich, and I watch the Super Bowl.

If college ball is as f@&ked as we fear, I guess I can find a new hobby.

I'm pretty much the same. I've watched for many years, I enjoy getting up and watching games all day on Saturday. I don't watch any other sports other than for the occasional MLB game. But I just dont like the new college football. I'll watch this season since it's probably the best team we will ever field. That and we're seeing the golden age of football die.
