Our 2027 class won't sign for another 20 months, but the recent commitment of QB DJ Hunter brought 2027 recruiting onto everyone's radar. This is an early example of vindication for Coach Hamdan, because Hunter has a bunch of options and his recruiting stock is blowing up. Hunter, a Lexington native, is fulfilling a dream. One can imagine Hunter can't wait to leave Knoxville behind and get on with it.

BTW, I do not believe Hunter's commitment will affect UK's recruitment of 2026 QB prospect Oscar Rios, who is on campus for his OV this weekend. As one of the top 2026 QB prospects, Rios appears to be in the elite prospect category.

Looks like another good class in Cincinnati. UK has distributed a large number of early offers in the states of FL and GA.

Man, that looks like an incredibly large number of Ky kids from one class to have offers.
Yes. It's a larger number than usual. But most of those will probably never be committable. An early guess is that Driver, Evans, Hull, and McPike might become priorities. Driver certainly is. Hull just UVed Lexington last week.

Like my instate kids, if they are good enough.

Like my instate kids, if they are good enough.
Anymore, it isn't just about being good enough, because people here in KY don't like 4-8. To get better, our players have to be the best available in our enlarged recruiting footprint. The SEC requires pro size, speed, strength, training, and intangibles. Highly competitive. So it is an oxymoron to worry about difficulty of the SEC schedule and then settle for instate players who are "good enough", IYKWIM. UK's best football players are mainly coming from OH, AL, FL, and GA.

Before anyone asks why there have been so many QB offers, DJ Hunter has been told two QBs might be signed in our 2027 class. Zach Calzada is done after the 2025 season and you never know when someone will transfer. What is more interesting is the number of states represented on this list. UK's recruiting footprint continues to expand as the SEC expands and as UK's recruiting budget expands.

You’ve highlighted the amount of communication/contacts with potential recruits, their schools, Coaches, Councilors and families.

Ponder the number of hours needed simply to catalogue the data on the hundreds of athletes being recruited.

Some folks have wondered in the past why there are many dozens of football employees. It is a huge undertaking, and 90 percent of the footwork/grunt work is not done by Coaches.

That's the truth for sure. And you didn't mention managing equipment, facilities, film organization, scheduling, team travel, and so forth. A program this size requires a huge, dedicated staff working together on the same page.

Considering a new staff will hopefully be in place it’ll be interesting to see if the new coach keeps on these targets

Tyler Fryman Beechwood class of 27, I see where Louisville has offered, have we ?

His Max Prep link is above. AFAIK, I have listed all the instate UK offers on this thread. It has been reported that Fryman runs 4.4, so it would be interesting to know how that was timed.

Unlike 2026, the 2027 instate class is a strong one.

Rembrandt, you seem to be really involved with recruiting. Question for you - how do you feel a coaching change affects current recruits and recruiting? I feel very strongly that a coaching change will happen after this season. I'm not saying Coach Stoops gets fired - things just feel like a coaching change is going to happen. I think if last year had gone better - that it might have actually happened last year. I think Coach Stoops is ready to call it a career - but he wants to go out in a positive manner. I also don't know anything or have any inside info - it is just a feeling! Anyway, thats my opinion - lol!

Go Big Blue!

Fryman is committed to Louisville as a baseball player; don't know if he'll be a two sport kid in college and honestly it's probably been since Tinch or Chichester played basketball but as Football WRs that there's been a two sport player at Louisville. I don't recall any in baseball.

T'was reported on a local newscast (WFIE) that Owensboro Catholic QB Dre'mail Carothers has received a scholarship offer from UK.

Your question is hypothetical. I have always emphasized that I don't have a crystal ball. I am not clairvoyant. We can't know if Stoops stays or goes, and we can't know how he would be replaced in your hypothetical. So there is no rational way to answer the question of how your hypothetical would impact recruiting.

We can say this much. During high times and low times, throughout good and bad, Stoops has maintained his traction as an effective recruiter. Some say it was Marrow. But I don't believe that. I think it has been this way because Stoops intentionally constructs his coaching staff with recruiting as a priority. When Clinkscale left, Stoops hired Chris Collins. Coach Wolf is an experienced OL coach and also an experienced recruiter. Coach Mike and Coach Boulware are experienced recruiters. Coach Washington is turning out to be a deadly recruiter, and Bush Hamdan is on the verge of bringing in Matt Ponatoski and DJ Hunter. Even Coach White and Coach Stewart have been signing interesting guys. Stoops has increased UK's recruiting footprint to include TX, MS, MO, IN, IL, MI, PA, NJ, VA, and the Carolinas. He has intensified UK's recruiting coverage of OH, FL, GA, and AL. So, from a recruiting standpoint, Stoops would leave behind big shoes to fill.

Of course, the prevailing wisdom says Tulane HC Jon Sumrall is UK's next coach in waiting. If 2025 turns out to be Stoops' final season, Sumrall really could be the man. As a tactical coach, Sumrall is excellent. Sumrall knows how to develop and inspire players. Sumrall has a history as an effective recruiter in the states of GA and AL. But can he recruit over a wide geographic footprint like Stoops has recruited? Who knows? No doubt, Mitch Barnhart would give Sumrall (or whoever the successor will be) a similar recruiting budget. But Stoops has been the best recruiter in UK football history and that will be difficult to duplicate. But not impossible.

T'was reported on a local newscast (WFIE) that Owensboro Catholic QB Dre'mail Carothers has received a scholarship offer from UK.
I can't confirm what you are saying because I can't find any corroboration. But I have found confirmation that Carothers holds an offer from EKU.

Let's say this much. Carothers has a strong football body configuration at 6'4" nearly 200#. He is a multisport athlete, playing baseball, football, and basketball. That kind of athleticism is attractive to Mark Stoops and to many Power 4 coaching staffs. So it could happen. But his skills will require more evaluation. 2027 is an unusually strong instate football class in KY (whereas 2026 is an unusually weak instate class). As we have discussed on this thread, UK has already given out at least 21 well-documented offers for 2027 to instate players, although we won't know which of those are actually committable for another year.
