State of 2023 Recruiting

Cameron Calhoun commits to WVU and does childish fake commitment bs and that's coming from a kid who goes to Chris Oats' former HS with his brother on the staff....
I'm pretty familiar with the Winton Woods FB program, I believe Calhoun wanted to get out of Jermaine Matthews shadow. Matthews has always been looked at as the better prospect and I believe that Cameron wanted to forge his own path. I believe that if Matthews committed 100% to football, rather than also being an excellent basketball player, he would be an even better prospect and he is really good right now.

Calhoun wanted to commit to Kentucky, but Kentucky wouldn't accept his commitment, thus he settled on WVU.

Saw where Ethan Crisp, LB, Mount Juliet, TN committed to Vandy today. Hope we can keep our foot in the door in Tennessee.

Rock, do you know anything of this guy, Chandler Sparks? Played hoops at CovCath for 3 years & now going to play DE/TE (typo) at Cincinnati Anderson as SR. 6-6, 240. Hasn't played football since junior high.

Nope, know nothing about him.

Pretty familiar with him up here in Cincinnati. I thought he should have made this move 2 years ago. Not a lot of
6-4 or 6-5 power forwards in D1. I actually think he could make a decent DE for somebody and definitely help a porous Anderson HS defense. The article mentions him as a replacement for Brodie Foley who committed to UT, and had his offer pulled at the last second and ultimately committed to IU. This kid isn't as athletic as Foley, due to his build, but I think he could be a pretty good DE at the next level, if given time to develop.

Vizzina to Clemson today. He’s going to be a stud. Where are we on ‘23 quarterbacks?

Vizzina dropped Kentucky a while back. And, to your question, nowhere.
Thanks, Rock. I know Levis has been a huge success, but would you agree banking on getting another high starter quality transfer QB is risky? Would rather be developing guys with the portal as an additional option.

Edit to say I’m sure having Coen leave has thrown a wrench in QB recruiting in the short term.

I'm not a fan of trying to simply rely on the portal for a QB for two reasons. 1) The QB in a recruiting class generally becomes a big recruiter for his recruiting class. They can help recruit others and help keep committed guys solid. 2) It’s simply not plausible to bank on getting a Will Levis each time you look to the portal. Coen’s departure (and a late one at that) really put Kentucky in a bind trying to recruit QB's for the 2023 class.

D linemean Jamarrion Harkless from Frederick Douglass offered by UK....finally

Important visitor on campus....4 star WR Karmello English from Alabama

I could use a commitment or transfer in the portal right now

Things have got slow for us on the recruiting trail
Brutally slow. Difficult to deal with when Tennessee and Louisville both have momentum on the recruiting trail at the current moment.

TE Tanner LeMaster, of Washington Court House, OH, has committed to UK. It appears that LeMaster has been our staff's top TE target in this class. Lemaster reportedly holds at least 3 SEC scholarship offers.

UK's current 2023 class-

Ty Bryant, DB, Lexington, KY
Tanner LeMaster, TE, Washington Court House, OH
Kaden Moorman, RB, Frankfort, KY
Shamar Porter, WR, Nashville, TN
Malachi Wood, OL, Richmond, KY

Here is a list of some other 2023 players who might be trending toward UK at this point. These are not predictions. I am not suggesting whether all these players do or do not actually hold committable offers, and I am not predicting they will necessarily sign with UK at the end. No one but our coaches would know that. These are only reflections of what the players themselves have been indicating.

Anthony Brown, slotR, Springfield, OH
Micah Carter, DL, Louisville, KY
Saadiq Clements, DL, Henderson, KY
Christian Conyer, ATH, Bowling Green, KY
Joe Crocker, OL, Nashville, TN
Jermaine Mathews, CB, Cincinnati, OH
William Spencer, OL/DL, Louisville, KY
Tommy Ziesmer, LB, Danville, KY

Liam Coen's departure for LA interrupted UK's QB recruitment for the 2023 class. Coen was recruiting a number of hs QBs personally, including Vizzina. Since being hired to replace Coen, Rich Scangarello has mainly been occupied by preparations for spring practice. Over the spring and summer, Coach Scangarello will reorganize the list of hs QBs being considered by our coaches. I think we will sign a 2023 QB.

When the time comes, UK's staff will probably make an effort to recruit 2025 QB Cutter Boley from Larue County.

No decent 2023 QBs will be open for UK recruitment come summer. All 4* & above have committed or are deciding after visits soon. We already have a low 3* QB project, poor planning to use a scholarship on another.

Just get a former 4* unhappy at not starting from a P5 roster in Dec. They compete against Allen Spring 2023. Go all in on stud 2024 QB, should have a great Levis season & NFL draft positioning to sell.

Point taken, but this isn't always necessarily true. There are decommitments, late bloomers, and so forth. Coaches get into trouble or teams get upset a couple of times and, suddenly, committed players in their classes are taking other visits. Summer camps and combines result in underrated players being upgraded and more widely recognized. Hypothetically, UK beats FL in Gainesville and, before you know it, other players are visiting Lexington. I think Stoops will sign a QB in his 2023 class. I would not want to guess names at this point, because I will be wrong.

It looks like UK is heavily recruiting regionally (KY, OH, TN). Are they pursuing anyone outside of this region?

Very much so but are pretty selective. GA/FL/Bama, DVM and New England. They also have offers out to guys in CA, TX and AZ. But yes, the main recruiting area is the 300 mile radius surrounding Lexington.

They're recruiting a few players from each of Mich, PA, and Bama. They had a high 4 star WR from Alabama on campus this weekend They always recruit GA though I can't think of any they're in good shape to land there this year. Mike Stoops had gotten a few FL guys on campus but again not sure if there is any serious options there.

I think it's fair to say UK is heavily recruiting KY, OH, and TN, as far as it goes. UK's coaches are also active in AL, GA, PA, IN, MO, MI, and the Carolinas. Mike Stoops is recruiting a couple of Floridians, and Coach White is recruiting several players in MD and NJ.

Which 2023 player will commit next? English? Gilbert? Spencer? Brown?
Is UK leading for any of them? Of those 4 the only one it seems they're for sure leading for is Brown. I had thought they were leading for Spencer but after not visiting all spring while still going to UL, IDK. It is still early we will see

Item the last day or 2 seemed to indicate UK is leading for English. We'll see.
