State of 2022 Recruiting

Good God! What a huge relief! Kiyaunta Goodwin to UK after all.

Man, Kiyaunta. You almost gave me another heart attack this morning.

Time to say this again. Vince Marrow is the man!
I don't know how his career is going to pan out yet, but this kid just gave kids (and everyone else), another reason to be excited about Kentucky Football. I had the old triple bypass three years ago and I'm with you, I couldn't take much more. Haha all worth it now though. Go Cats... Rembrandt90, I just want to tell you how much I have enjoyed what you have done the last few years. I know others have said this, but I really do appreciate it man. Thank you.

Your kind words are greatly appreciated. We have 52 pages so far on this thread, with great contributions by a lot of interested UK fans. Glad that we have mostly been able to keep the thread focused on our 2022 class, which is turning out to be even better than most of us hoped! Is this Stoops' first top 10 class? Maybe so.

Some dude named "Jeremy from Kentucky" just phoned in to talk with Paul Finebaum and referred to Kentucky twice as a "basketball state" before Finebaum cut him off and moved on.

I know Kentucky has been considered a basketball state in the past. That is no longer the case, finally, and I applaud Finebaum for understanding this. Finebaum has been very complimentary of Stoops and his new class today. He also had Cal on as a guest yesterday.

SEC money is a great equalizer. UK is one of those occasional schools that can excel in both major sports. In fact, Cal may have some catching up to do now.

Lot of programs are going to regret not even considering Mark Stoops. So glad he's our coach. UK football is more exciting than basketball at this point.
You ain't kidding.

I guess LSU getting Brian Kelly is reasonable enough and Venables going back to Oklahoma is fine as well. But Billy Napier at Florida is goofy.

Yes, a 6-3 guy that suppose to run a 4.5. Afari seems to be the next Edwards/Corder type at safety. With Stewart and Reed signed would be nice to get one more good experienced corner.

I'm hoping we bring someone in from the portal to fill that spot. I like what we brought in today for the future of the position, but we need a plug and play CB for this coming season.

Looking at the portal the real good ones are gone maybe after the bowls and spring

More than likely that's what will happen. A lot will know after bowl practices where they stand but some will hang around till spring. I would just like to get one before spring camp begins.

Well well well, what a day yesterday was. Kentucky is sitting at #10 on rivals and #11 on 247 in team rankings (4th in the SEC). This class is one of the highest rated classes UK has EVER had. UK continues to build a very strong foundation to be able to relevant in the SEC for many years to come.

Transfers:
Tashawn Manning, DL, Auburn (247 - 3* as a transfer and as a high school recruit)
Tayvion Robinson, WR, Virginia Tech (247 - 3* as a transfer, 4* High School)

High School:
Barrion Brown, WR, Nashville TN (4* Rivals, 4* 247, 4* On3)
Kiyaunta Goodwin, OL, Charlestown, IN (4* Rivals, 5* 247, 4* Espn, 5* On3)
Deone Walker, DL, Detroit, MI (4* Rivals, 4* 247)
Dane Key, WR, Lexington, KY (4* Rivals, 4* 247, 4* Espn)
Alex Afari, ATH, West Chester, OH (4* Rivals, 4* 247, 3* Espn)
Tyreese Fearbry, LB, Pittsburgh, PA (4* Rivals, 4* 247, 4* Espn)
Destin Wade, ATH, Spring Hill, TN (4* Rivals, 4* 247, 4* Espn)
Keaton Wade, LB, Spring Hill, TN (4* Rivals, 4* 247, 4* Espn)
Grant Bingham, OL, Paintsville, KY (4* Rivals, 4 *247, 3* Espn)
Zah Frazier, DB, Coffeyville, KS JUCO (4* Rivals, 3* 247)
Ja'Kobi Albert, ATH, Fairfield, AL (4* Rivals, 3* 247, 4* On3)
Andre Stewart, DB, Kennesaw, GA (high 3* Rivals, 4* Espn)
Jordan Anthony, slot WR, Tylertown, MS (high 3* Rivals, 4* Espn, 4* On3)
Quintel Jones, DL, Peach County, GA (3* rivals, 3* 247)
Tomiwa Durojaiye, DL, Middletown DE
Nikolas Hall, OL, Austin, TX (high ranked 3* Espn, 4* On3)
Elijah Reed, CB, Lville, Ky (2* Rivals, 3* 247, 3* 247 Composite)
Josh Kattus, TE, Cincinnati, OH
Brandon White, slot WR, Cincinnati, OH
Jackson Smith, K, Danville, KY

Rivals Team Recruiting Rank - 10th (11 4*, 8 3*)
247 Rank - 11th (1 5*, 8 4*, 10 3*)
On3 - 12th (1 5*, 11 4*, 7 3*)

We have a total of 14 players who are ranked 4* or higher including all recruiting services)

Looking at averages per service, I expect our class to settle around the 13-15th position by the true end of the recruiting cycle. But due to the transfers not counting in these rankings, I expect our class to be a top ten impact for UK. In other words, if they included the transfers, our class would be top 10. Stoops and company killed it last year in the portal market, and I have a belief that UK will do that again.

Has Goodwin signed? Someone posted that he isn't on the UK athletics list of signees. Also 247 still has him on the committed list instead of signed.

@Rock_Cat78 Just looking through the 2023 class it seems like one of the more unpredictable classes I can remember. Normally at this point I have a feel for who we will be in on and the main players of the class but as of now I can't really figure out who will be our biggest targets. Was wondering if you feel the same way?

Up to now, a popular knock on Mark Stoops has been that his recruiting classes are better than previous UK classes but still near the bottom of the SEC. That is no longer true. This morning, Stoops' 2022 class is ranked #4 in the SEC behind TX A&M, AL, and GA. Our coaches are still trying to add.

Should be a heavy year for in-state guys. Kentucky will host a couple of Junior Days in Jan/Feb that will coincide with home basketball games (Tennessee on Jan 15th should be one) and that will tell quite a bit more on who some of the top targets could be.

I don't know what we'll get the portal obviously, but I hope we go after an edge rusher. I was hoping Bogle would be our guy but he bought into the Mich St hype.
