Spectrum/Disney/ESPN - Suck for doing this

Dofu is on the Firestick?

Yes it can be, along with many others, but you won’t find them just by searching the available apps.

First you have to check all the menu items to allow third party apps. This is known as jailbreaking, but it’s as easy as checking the correct boxes.

Then you download an app called “downloader” (which is available on the regular app search). Search for Dofu or whatever else through this app, download it, and it’ll install.

It’s not as complicated as it sounds, but being a little computer savvy helps. Some of the sports apps don’t work all that great with the standard Amazon remote. You can hook up a Bluetooth mouse to the firestick which helps.

Once you’ve got it in place, it’s not hard to navigate, but it’s not always the perfect user experience.

If you want a perfect experience, YouTubeTV is your go to.

Who's providing your internet service though? if you still have Spectrum as your internet provider they block that too don't they?
Nope. I've had Spectrum Internet for almost 20 years with no TV or phone service from them. I've been streaming only for 5 or 6 years now for TV. No blocking whatsoever. Before streaming, I had Dish.

But i mean if you're streaming Spectrum TV you won't be getting the Disney/ESPN channels. As somebody said earlier, they tried streaming DirectTV using Spectrum Internet service and they wouldn't allow those channels. unless that was just a glitch.

I'm not streaming Spectrum TV. I ONLY have Spectrum Internet. Like I said, I haven't had any Spectrum TV for almost 20 years. Only internet. I'll be streaming YouTubeTV for tomorrow's game.

Do the streams get cut off like on the phone app? If so, is it a pain to get the new link? I usually just cast them.

I’m not 100% sure what you mean, but I’ll try to answer anyway.

Dofu or another app may have like, 3 or 4 options to watch a game. Just different individuals streaming them. Occasionally one will freeze up and so I try another. It’s not too hard to just back out, go to the main app page, and try another. The streams come through the Amazon Sill browser built into the firestick, so there’s no additional step in casting that may gunk things up.

Hulu plus live gives you SEC Network, SEC+, and ESPN+. I live in Florida, had YouTube TV for a couple of years, enjoyed it, but had to subscribe to ESPN+ for an additional fee. Found out Hulu plus live, is the best way to see the CATS in action. Plus it’s less expensive.

This is not true I have had Direct TV stream and Youtube TV both with Spectrum internet and they work fine. I switched to spectrum streaming about a month ago to get the reds games but I am switching back to Youtube TV tomorrow this is bullshit.

It's all Disney. Their prices are insane. People have no clue how much of their cable bill is solely espn

Exactly. Disney, and ESPN specifically, has been the biggest contributor to increased cable bills. One thing people may not be aware of, is that Disney also uses ESPN as leverage to get their other channels (e.g., FX, Disney Channel) included on basic cable or to get those channels higher subscriber fees by bundling the negotiations.

Below is how much Disney charges each pay TV subscriber each month. ESPN alone dwarfs the other sports channels, and that’s before adding in ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, SEC Network and ACC Network.

Spectrum internet does not block Disney channels if you're streaming through YouTube TV.

Got rid of Spectrum 2+ years ago and went with YouTube TV, nit one regret. Get all I want to watch for less money per month. Sports coverage is great.

I have directv and fox has been off the air for about 2 months or more. Just wait until nfl season starts and folks came watch the games. It will get ugly

Spectrum might as well go ahead and capitulate. Disney has the upper hand here. Some number of Spectrum customers will try streaming services and if happy may drop cable altogether.
The deal Disney offered was so bad that it would of made Spectrum unprofitable. Their CEO came out and said that if that was where this is going then they'd just shut down business. They might just be an internet service provider going forward.

Didney can can’t afford for this to go on too long, neither can Spectrum

Good Lord, Disney's revenue and profits are growing this year.

Unfortunately Disney can. All the people switching to YouTube TV shows that. Plus they have multiple diverse income streams that will leave them pretty well not effected.

They have all the leverage and they know it. That's why they made the pretty bold move of taking their signal down themselves. Spectrum is the one losing all the subscribers

Let's be honest, cable and satellite companies are going towards extinction. It's only a matter of about 10-15 years and they won't even exist. It very well might be wise of them to only be an internet provider from here on out.

I heard something similar. Guess if I have to rely on streaming, I'll have to get Roku or Firestick. I did sign up for YoutubeTV as a temporary fix.

Disney is losing subscribers too if this drags out.

Most cable subscribers don’t even watch sports, so shutting off ESPN isn’t going to make them switch to YouTube TV. And Disney then loses the monthly fees from those subscribers who remain with Spectrum.

I believe Spectrum is anticipating that losing Disney channels could cost them between 13% and 25% of their subscribers. Which means between 75% and 87% of subscribers would stick with Spectrum and Disney loses those subscriber fees. So it ends up being a sizable hit to both businesses.

While the situation is frustrating and hurts the consumer, it does prove one point - I've seen countless threads crushing Disney and ESPN (some of it justified) but at the end of the day if you're a sports fan, you need these companies, unless you just want to watch all your sports on some crappy streamer site. People can post rant how they wish these companies would go under yet here we are, jonesing for live sports content those same companies provide. These three companies aren't heroes of the working class, but this situation does show while many hate ESPN and/or Disney, we also crave the games they provide if it's football or basketball season. The epitome of a love/hate relationship.

Spectrum will more than likely cave soon, as switching is easy and the days of clamoring for 200+ channels are over. People just want the channels they know they're going to watch. Look at your Spectrum guide sometime and you'll notice channels forced on you you had no idea existed. Who needs several janky public access looking faith-based channels and about nine different home shopping channels in 2023?

Corporate greed is what got us here. Greed is what's driving the conference expansion crap too. Quit getting tied up in this cultural war nonsense and look and see where the true problems lie.
