Sounds like Butler is gonna be okay

Would you rather a team with injuries have to play 3 games or 5? Doubt we get that double by, may be too far out for that unless we pull of a couple of miracles. but I definitely don't want to be losing any more games we shouldn't and pushing our way down into the Wednesday games.
How would playing more games now be better because we could end up playing 1-2 extra games. The players are going be more banged up right now than they would with rest and would be playing 1-2 extra games now anyway. You ain’t mathin’

Heck, we only turned the ball over 8 times last night against the best defense in the country. I don't think we should be complaining about anything on the offensive end. We are the 2nd most efficient offense in the country and we're doing it while dealing with crazy injuries.

This team has played a ton of games without either of our pg's and Amari is always in foul trouble.

8 turnovers when we lost Butler with 8 minutes to go and resting a lot during the game and also without Jaxson and Kriisa.

Perry was playing HS ball last year and is not really ready for the pressure UT can put on you… ..and we only turned the ball over 8 times??? That's crazy.

This team would be so much further ahead if not for the injuries and I'll tell you what, that defense was damn impressive last night. Lanier went 0-7 from 3 and Mashack scored ZERO points. Okpara only had 8.

This team is turning the corner even though they are dealing with injuries to extremely important players.

Heard he had a torn labrum... i think that takes surgery.
I don't know your source, and a torn labrum in his shoulder is obviously possible. But I wonder if Pope and the medical people would allow Butler to play with a torn labrum, even a partial tear, assuming he could realistically.

I'm thinking he's saying Lamont tore it last night.

This will be Pope’s least talented team and they are still a lot of fun. Just wish a few posters would transfer out.
Yall gotta stop saying that cause it most likely isn’t going to be true. This team is more talented than people give them credit for. It’s just not nba talent but it’s tailor made for college.

These last two years have me believing the layup is the hardest shot in basketball.

Oweh is my favorite this year, but man, learn to pass the ball back out of that driving ability....occasionally, please.
I will say he gets fouled quite often with no calls, probably more than anyone I’ve seen. That said, yeah finishing at the rim over big guys isn’t easy for sure.

I’m betting he needs surgery but has enough movement and ability that if he can handle the pain he can play. He probably doesn’t want his last few college games to be injured so he’s giving it a go and will have a procedure after the year if needed.

I agree. I have no idea what people are expecting. Yeah, maybe next time Pope will land McNeely and Lanier, but the guys he did get, are damn good players.
The key is going to be player retention. Keep guys in the system for 2 or 3 years and add fitting pieces around them and you have something.
But damn, give me a Butler, Oweh, Carr, Robinson, Almonor, Garrison and Williams any day.

I’ve known guys that have torn their labrum from lifting weights and continued to lift with pain for several months. It’s an injury that can be played through unless it’s a bad tear.

Well that quote isn't exactly conclusive. We need him to come back somewhat closer to 100% by the end of the year. If that means more rest and rehab, I'm fine with it.
It sounds like no amount of rest will get him to 100% , seems like he has to go under the knife after the season.

Get him stable and effective as possible though!

I bet Butler will require surgery at year end to fully fix the issue. At this point it’s probably a pain tolerance thing. He won’t get worse just probably won’t be 100% the rest of the year.

No doctor here, but I would think you may be 100% correct. He's tough and wants to finish out his last season if possible.

That's possible. But still the question I have is if there is a tear of tissue or cartilage inside the shoulder (rotator cuff, labrum, etc.) would Butler be allowed to play regardless of how much he wanted to "risk it." If there is significant danger that playing could result in more damage or a worsened condition I have doubts that Pope or the doctors would allow it.

I love this team. Just making the analogy to show that the arrow is firmy pointing UP for the idiots either wanting him already fired or are scoffing because we aren't 21-3, lol.
Yep, our Coach is probably a basketball genius. This is my favorite team since 2015 and I know we have 7 losses but I'm on board, lets go!

We don't need him to be a 100% to make a huge difference. Just being able to get up into the grill of the opposing team's point guard and to get the ball up court is what we need. If we can get last night's play from him for the rest of the season, I think we will be good.

That is not news and it’s not an update, unfortunately.

Literally all Howard is doing in that tweet (which you’ll notice is from shortly after the game ended last night) is quoting Pope from his post-game presser last night. And anyone who heard the full exchange knows Pope was actually giving a non—answer.

He was specifically asked whether the coaches had received any specific information about the nature and extent of Butler’s injury and whether they had any forecast or plan based on that, that he could share, as far as either how long we should expect him to be out or any specific plan they had for how they might able to get Butler healthy quicker or get him healthy at all.

And Pope mostly dodged the question, not really because he was being evasive like Cal always did but because at that point literally all he had done since the game ended was give a little locker-room speech and then walk in there to get interviewed. So how on Earth would Pope be expected to know anything about what was asked at that point?

So he literally replied that he didn’t know anything at all about Butler’s new status, but Butler was a super tough kid, amazing competitor and leader, and he hopes we could get him back as soon as possible.

If course he hopes we can get him back as soon as possible and of course we all do.

But what is quoted here was nothing like an update and was never meant to be.

That would be nice if we had that luxury, but we are battling for by placement in the SEC Tourney right now and really don't want to be relegated to playing five games in five days if we can avoid it. If the tournament happened today, we'd get a single bye and have to play the winner of SC/Miss. St. then would have to face either Bama or Auburn in game 2.

Point being, we can't afford any more losses considering we still have to face Bama, Auburn and Missouri
I’ve never been an “Reg season/SECT doesn’t matter, all about March” person bc every game matters at Kentucky when you’re talking about maintaining blueblood status…and success in the season breeds postseason success…

With that said….this may be the one year and circumstance where I’m not overly concerned with SECT seeding or results if it means we get to be fully healthy in the NCAAT with a 5 seed or better (our 7-1 against top 15 should carry us)

I’d absolutely hate for an 80% butler/robinson/Carr to get beat up and become unplayable in the NCAAT due to playing 3-4 games of this rugby style basketball in the SECT that UTAM and MSU will play. Hell, half our issue rn stem from the first Texas AM game.

If we weren’t fighting several critical injuries then it’s a diff story
