So, the threats to Higgins were released. ONE was a direct threat and it was for a slap

You are entitled to your opinion. I just don't think it is a good human trait to get so upset with any type of sporting event that you lose control of your emotions that you personally harass someone.

Was this over blown, yes. I just wish people would show more control. As far as Higgins, I hope he never officiated another game. But, I do not want to see him lose his business.
Ok, now we're getting somewhere. Speaking of human traits and showing control, the BBN has over 2 million members. If all 800 calls came from BBN members that's about 1 out of 2500. That small of a number is probably drunk. Since there was no real harm done, that pretty much ends the story. Who cares what foolishness .04%, that's not 4%, it's .04%, does? That's all we really have here. Drunks doing what drunks do. It doesn't require much hand wringing to walk away from that.

Typical response from a sunshine pumper, can't have a debate so label someone as a troll. I think my join date and post count makes you wrong.

You may have slipped over to the dark side since then. It can happen. Just look at bass fan for example. Although his seems to be more of delusions of grandeur or a manic phase of a bipolar disorder.

You, on the other hand, seem to still be reacting to the bogus claims of "death threats" reported by a referee whose veracity is in great doubt. My opinion is he brought his family into the equation, coward that he is, to hide behind innocents. His business? Again my thoughts that he never considered that and felt his zebra stripes protected him and his crookedness from any response.

Fans realized that protests to the NCAA would be useless, based on past NCAA experience, and went directly to the source. Do I agree. No, but he should have known there is a hell for monkeys too and you can only push your agenda so far before people push back. He brought hell down on his own head.

Couple of posters in this thread (IdiotinNC primarily) refuse to accept that NOTHING OF ANY SUBSTANCE HAPPENED HERE. Not sure where their guilt comes from but, it certainly doesn't lie with UK fans.
Social media is beneath mainstream media in my opinion so, why they are attaching any value to it is beyond understanding.
Maybe their egos just will not allow them to accept they were wrong in condemning UK fans. Who knows but, thanks goodness for the "ignore" option!

Why do I feel like I just had a "Dynasty Defenders v/s TeleTubby" flashback? Yikes!! Anyway...

From the link dated January 28th, 2016:

"Higgins knows all too well that this scrutiny comes with the territory, especially in the social media age. He tries not to pay much attention to it. "If I looked at everything people wrote or said about me, I'd be a basket case," he says. Soon after he worked the epic triple-overtime game between Kansas and Oklahoma on Jan. 19, he received a threatening email at his business. He forwarded it to the FBI.

Higgins believes that other refs should follow his lead. "I saw a game last night on TV and I thought both coaches deserved a technical foul, but nothing was done," he says. "The younger guys have a hard time doing that because they're afraid they're going to lose games. Once you gain a little status, you can be more of a harda-- and do the things you're supposed to do without losing assignments."

The NCAA is trying to run a BILLION dollar business. I don't think it needs a "hardass" referee trying to ruin it. Jmo, but maybe UK fans can hope with Higgins drawing more attention to his incompetence, then he won't call many more UK games. :sunglasses:

I know some of our fans want to say this is ONLY A GAME but it is far more than that. As you said, it is a business. These aren't volunteer coaches or $50 per game referees. They are paid mega bucks.

While I completely agree that what was done to Higgins was out of line, I also realize that this kind of response was inevitable considering the current climate in the NCAA to allow a blatant known cheater to compete and then have a ref with a reputation of hating UK and a history of bad calls be the referee for the game.

I think what happened was the perfect storm.

wittle baby higgins should never zebra a sports game again!!! at any level--not even kindygarden.

he is a pathetic egoist--devoid of anything beyond SELF!! zero empathy for right, decency and integrity.

why do some see the NEED to defend and shield such an individual from scrutiny?

Right is Right---higgins is wrong!!

Perfect storm, yes, but not sure the storm has hit yet. We had the scum of our fan base make a victim out of a villain. He has friends. They have whistles. Some of the chest thumping moronic diatribe like what we have suffered here will re-enforce what those zebra shirt friends are probably already thinking.

Think officiating can't get any worse? Think again.

I think that is a fair take. Who knows where this goes from here? Do we get the Magna Carta or do we get martial law? Or, does the storm blow over and we return to the status quo? Inquiring minds want to know!:sunglasses:
