There’s no “more than once.” I don’t believe the Twitter rumors that there was first an offer to Hurley. I think Drew was our first serious target.
But now maybe we can go balls out after Hurley. But it’s gonna take a crazy hefty offer.

Exactly, college basketball is a different animal now. Of course you want a great coach but in this day and age it’s a lot easier for coaches to get players and win. If we do end up getting someone like Beard, Golden or someone in that list. They will come here and do really well. Cal was done winning a Kentucky he burned too many bridges and it was over for him here.

But UK did NOT “make it public knowledge.” UK never officially said a word about it. Instead, the public figured it out anyways via means such as reporters exploiting inside sources at both UK and Baylor and obsessed fans doing things like tracking the Craft jet traveling back-and-forth between Waco and Lexington.
I’m pretty sure the UK brass wishes we did not know as much as we do.
If Mitch and Drew were "buddies" as has been said many times, wouldn't/shouldn't they have already had that conversation and Mitch have a good idea of the answer? "Hey, whenever the UK job opens up, how interested would you be in it?"

First, how do you know he went "all in" on Drew? Seems like he at least sent feelers out to Stephens and Wright and was told no thanks. Hurley obviously said no. Drew was the next best option.
Second, the notion that you only offer someone that you know would say "yes" is an absurdity. You don't know if anyone will accept until you ask. Don't be ridiculous. Also, you ask anyone and everyone you're interested in and make your best pitch until you get the right guy. That is literally how every coach search/hire in the country goes.
