History shows that if you’re not a drunk, you’ll win a title at UK.Pope is too smart not to win a title.
He could win a title THIS year.History shows that if you’re not a drunk, you’ll win a title at UK.
In all seriousness, Pope has the tools to hang a title banner. If he is able to build a core group of guys and keep them around for a few years, then he might create something real special.
A true teacher and Coach.
Right. This is what most top tier programs have had this entire time. We just were in denial that our 'coach' wasn't actually a coach. To me this just sounds like common sense coaching. But hey, I realize that common sense isn't so common anymore. It certainly wasn't for the old regime.
The problem with Cal was every time we thought he didn't have it anymore, he'd pull a rabbit out of his butt (The big win at KU for example) and it was ok....maybe he's getting back in it? But no, it was always fool's gold. I'm glad he did us a favor by meeting with Arky in a hotel room.Right. This is what most top tier programs have had this entire time. We just were in denial that our 'coach' wasn't actually a coach.
Maybe some were, but most knew ccc was a two faced fraudRight. This is what most top tier programs have had this entire time. We just were in denial that our 'coach' wasn't actually a coach.
I'm trying to not get ahead of myself with the Pope love, but I just don't see how he's not incredibly successful here. He knows exactly what being the head coach of UK is all about, he's incredibly smart (Rhodes scholar candidate and Columbia med school student), and has a great work ethic.Pope is too smart not to win a title.
Took the words out of my mouth.I'm trying to not get ahead of myself with the Pope love, but I just don't see how he's not incredibly successful here. I will never be worried we weren’t prepared for a game ever again under him.Pope is too smart not to win a title.
What’s Scary is Cal seriously expected his guys to just be more “athletic” other teams and to learn other teams during the flow of the game. And then when it didn’t work, he’d flip around on the sideline with that stupid open mouthed look of exasperation. GOOOOO!!!! MAKE A PLAY!!!!!
Pope knows he has great experience and great thinkers on this team (Butler for one), and will use every advantage he has.
I hated that look. What’s Scary is Cal seriously expected his guys to just be more “athletic” other teams and to learn other teams during the flow of the game. Same. I truly knew Cal was done (I already knew, just didn't want to believe it per se) when we lost o St. Peter's and he just look stunned turning around to the bench/coaching staff going "We're F******!" Never, and I mean NEVER, have I seen that out of a coach before. They might get pissed, they might throw an item, they might even curse. But to just basically give up like that and say "We're effed!"? I was done with John Vincent Calipari at that point. I maintained a bit of hope when we got the Three R's (Reed, Rob, Reeves) but I knew what was coming. And when we lost to Oakland? After the 1 hour or so of the initial post-tourney anger, I was just disappointed.I hated that look.
Wasn't building a case. Just putting out more good tidbits showing we have a real coach again.Don't need any more proof, but thanks.
What a Bennie Coach Pope is.....😁
I agree. He is by all accounts and very good man as well. It is easy to pull for him.A true teacher and Coach.
We are blessed.
Because Cal didn't prepare his players for games, he had to treat his players like 9-year-olds playing at the Boys and Girls Club by telling them where to stand on the court during games. It was actually ridiculous seeing him almost physically positioning his players on court during. They didn't appear to have a clue what he wanted them to do.What’s Scary is Cal seriously expected his guys to just be more “athletic” other teams and to learn other teams during the flow of the game. That is a damn good comparison right there.Because Cal didn't prepare his players for games, he had to treat his players like 9-year-olds playing at the Boys and Girls Club by telling them where to stand on the court during games. I think that was a mutual realization. Drew probably got a bit of a culture shock. He's a good coach, but he's not elite. And he's not built for a job like this.I’m watching Baylor right now, and Scott drew wouldn’t have lasted 2 years here. He doesn’t have the personality nor confidence to coach here.
Exactly, he is better at a school with far less attention and media coverage. Kentucky has to have somebody who embraces the spotlight.I think that was a mutual realization. Drew probably got a bit of a culture shock. He's a good coach, but he's not elite. And he's not built for a job like this.
He did an amazing job rebuilding Baylor from the ashes. Won a title. But man, he's just not the right fit here.
Yep. Kinda like the Drew family being a little weirded out by the plane tracking. Like, I get it. But that's part of big time sports. That crap is normal.Exactly, he is better at a school with far less attention and media coverage. Kentucky has to have somebody who embraces the spotlight.
