Shepherd is the best player on the team

He’s going to be a projected lottery pick I’m afraid. He is just as good as Tyler Herro was. He may stay another year just because he’s a legacy kid. But no way we have him more than 2, IMO.
Honestly wouldn’t mind that, if he plays like a lottery pick for 2 years we’re gonna win a looooot of games

TH is a few inches taller. 6’5 to 6’3
I think Reed is more athletic so it evens out but the NBA likes the height in a 2 guard.

Is this facetious bc he’s arguably the most active defender on the team. Cal himself said he has the best hands he’s ever seen which is why he gets so many deflections and steals
Just playing on Cal’s over critical judgements on defense. Defense is very important but they dont give points for defense.

Not one of Cals draft day favorites but no one else is close to his court savvy and awareness.
And it ain't even close.

What makes it really amazing is how unselfish he plays. He looks to pass first. It's not like Reeves jacking up everything without thinking of passing. Shep is scoring at a high clip looking to pass first.

He's also the smartest scrapest player we've had in awhile.

You don’t watch much NBA I guess. I can’t think of one person in the NBA built like REED. He will have to commit to rebuilding his body to have any chance at the NBA.

Folks Reed isn’t going pro after this year and I honestly believe he may stay all four years to go down as one of the best ever at UK. He is, and will continue making bank at UK with NIL. A lot has changed since his dad played and I used to talk to Jeff quite a bit before Reed even committed. Jeff told me that back when he played, 6-2 to 6-4 white guys in the NBA were a dime a dozen. The game has changed since then and while Reed is already showing he is going to be a stud at the college level, it will be much different at the professional level. While I still believe he may have a short stint in the NBA, I think he will ultimately make quite a living playing overseas. I think even Jeff regrets hanging it up so soon in Italy given the good money but following 9/11 it was a family decision. He has done phenomenally in life regardless and has raised a couple of excellent kids but don’t discount his experience and influence on Reed based on real life. I’m betting on Reed being at UK for a while but if I’m wrong, I am going to enjoy it while it lasts. This team is fun to watch. Go Cats!

I think he is player Cal actually trusts the most this early in the season for the many things he brings to the court. He puts him at PG when he’s in the game with Wagner and Rob. I think that’s a sign Cal wants the ball in his steady hands.

Crazy thing is I watched Reed in 13th region tourn and wasn’t convinced he had athletic ability to contribute at UK. (I’d make a great scout!) He was just always heady and made the right play. Now, at UK, he still seems steady and still making plays on both ends of the court. I believe if they stuck him in the NBA today he’d just continue making the right plays and knocking down open shots.

Two things have been a pleasant surprise. 1) His ability to initiate offense as a lead guard. 2) His defense.

It’s early in his career, but if he develops ability to score in the lane then he may have a super high ceiling. Our 4 guards will be a handful for teams this year.

Whether he leaves or not after this year or next is yet to be determined. But if you’re telling me he won’t be a projected lottery pick after next year at worst and this year at best, then I’ll gladly make a wager with you on it.

I don’t give a shit what the kid’s body looks like. He’s lethal. Complete player.

Matt Jones who didn’t like Hero (obviously can’t play D he’s white) now won’t give Shep his do - says no way - Wagner or Edwards have to be the best players for this team to be good. Said it today on his show - just like his boy Calapari - who if Edwards scored 25 tonight would have talked 5 minutes about him - barely mentioned Reed with Leach
Team is way better with Shep in game anyone with a brain can see

Reed did give up 1 or 2 corner 3s so I was expecting Cal to turn, point and motion for a sub to make it obvious Reed was coming out. To my surprise, Cal did not.

He's Bird Like. Best player I ever saw. Not saying Reed on that level yet. But could be as far as instincts.

He did leave his dude open a few times
Yes but he also makes so many things happen at both ends he is super valuable. One thing I noticed was how obvious it was when Reed was out top how much more he spread their zone making it much easier for Mitchell to own the middle of the lane. I realize the opponent but when several others were on top the zone definitely sagged more.
