shawn kirk?

Why would Cal offer this kid and not Damion Lee, the kid UL got, who is a good player and will only take a schollie for one year?

Anyone who thinks we would lose Brown by Cal signing this kid is straight-up nuts. This is Cal filling the cupboard with talent.

Brown may or may not come here, but a situational multi-year player coming in has zero impact on his decision.

I don't know anything about Damion Lee but its not like Cal is just randomly doing this. He's passed on guys before because he know they wouldn't fit at UK.

I will be super happy to get a commit from ANYONE right now! This has been the strangest year in recruiting. The kid looks super athletic, and has good size. Even if he is an extra body in practice, it will be a nice pickup.

We should add 1/2 each year that project as 3/4 yr players. Wouldn't hurt to have 6/8
total at all times of returning players..........still room for 4 or more OAD's.

Apparently the 247 recruiting analysts see something different than the consensus of the industry. They have him as a 4 star player, 73rd ranked player in the country, 12th overall SF in the country, 3rd best player in North Carolina.

Whether or not Diallo signs with UK it looks like Poythress will be back at SF. Last year after Poythress was injured whenever Lyles went to the bench we had to use a guard there and it hurt us on the boards. It appears that Willis is not the option for Cal and that Brown is going to Michigan as many expected. If Kirk backs out of his commitment to NC St and signs with UK I don't see him as a starter at SF.
Say it with me: Alex Poythress is not a SF

His YouTube video where he dropped 37 seems like he's a little more complete player than just a highlight dunk guy.

Anyway, this kid looks pretty good, his form is fine. I don't really care about Brown, I don't think there's any way we get him anyway. I care about Murray, he's a game changer and if he plays in college next year and it's not at UK, I'll be very disappointed. So if this means anything in regards to him, it's not good.

But we do need bodies, sign this kid up. I wish there was more in that video of him taking guys off the dribble, but whatever.

And who's to say when Poythress will be ready to go? Many on here seem to feel he'll just automatically return to the level he was before his injury. ACL is a serious injury for an athlete, recovery can take some time. Wouldn't be surprising if he won't be ready until Jan '16.

Idk what that has to do with what I posted

Four Final Fours in five years tends to breed desperation. Too bad we don't have any top recruits coming in next year.

Agreed. Some of this is getting comical. We need to stop evaluating guys individually and look at how they fit into a championship team. This guy is certainly not LeBron James but you also don't go out and sign 10 LeBrons every year. We have what will likely be the best class in the nation already. We also have 3 McD's AAs returning from this year. We won't end up asking this guy to carry us just fill a role. We need a 6'6" SF type and he fits the bill. I doubt this guy averages more than 5 points per game as a freshman but I also don't see that we need more than that either.

It would be different if Cal had actually recruited the guy and offered him early on . To throw out an offer to a three star at the 11th hour screams of desperation.

Who cares! I thought the game was played on the court? Stars don't mean crap when that ball gets tossed up. Everyone please stop worrying about competing for class rank and stars and try to imagine what they will look like on the actual court paired with who we already have!! It's about building a TEAM, not a collection of 5 stars.

The two players who seem to be "beneath" some posters right now, Mulder and Kirk are extremely athletic big time aggressive finishers who can run the court on the wings and take it to the rack HARD. Ill be ecstatic if we land them both.

Last time I checked, an ENTIRE roster full of Mickie D's is no guarantee for a title.

Cal has a pretty good track record, folks. I trust in him a hell of a lot more than I do some pessimistic fans. We'll be fine.

If he was from Paducah this place would be going bonkers.

Second, we've known for months that Brown wasn't coming. I don't see how everyone was fine with the roster (assuming Mulder and maybe Diallo) before this offer but now suddenly sees it as a bad sign. You think we're worse by adding him just because you only memorize the top 20 players each years?

Wolfpack fans crying foul - basically saying Cal tampered with their recruit.
not really tampering but it isn't kosher on college basketball.

College football on the other hand this is the norm.

For some reason guys are viewed as off limits in basketball after committing.

Boo-hoo for them

They've completely gone off the rails. Tweeting garbage like Calipari is paying players and threatening to bring down Kentucky, Just because they're enemies of our enemies it doesn't make them our friends. Screw 'em.

Coach Cal needs bodies in practice regardles if the Wildcats get Brown/Diallo. By offering Shaun Kirk Calipari is basically proving that he isn't going to let 2013 happen again. Plus, isn't Kentucky recruiting his AAU teammate who is a top 10 2016 recruit?

It doesn't hurt that Kirk is friends/teammates with Bam Bam Adebayo and Dennis Smith.

Or maybe he's a late bloomer and Cal was blown away by him this weekend.

I remember another guy who blew up in front of Cal and people around here were questioning- Tyler Ulis. Not the same, but similar situations and reactions.

That's a creative way to spin it, I'll say that... :)

Wouldn't call it a creative spin. The dude averaged pretty solid stats in high school, and has been playing well on a loaded team (ironically named "Team Loaded"). Caught Cal's interest, and we need a SF. He is a SF. His recruitment is blowing up.

I can see why they would be sore, but I think the timeline is something like this:

1. Has a great weekend playing ball.

2. Visit's NC State Monday. Is giddy that they offer - accepts on the spot.

3. Gets home later that day..."By the way, Coach Cal called."

Not sure that is exactly what happened, but pretty close. The kid seemingly jumped the gun, and now feelings could get hurt.

Doesn't seem like he fills the need for another front-court guy but at least he's likely a 2/3 year guy. Not gonna be any bangers on this team unless Wynyard comes in mid-year. Be a fun year but an injury in the front court would kill us again same as '13.

Visiting UK this weekend. Color me not very excited about this...

Why? 3rd best player in North Carolina, athletic SF that can shoot, 247 has him rated as a 4 star 94 overall. Averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game last season. Why the pessimism?
