Fingers crossed. Missouri already got Davis from us. We could use this guy but the shit show of this past season leaves me doubtful we can get him.
6'-4", 255 lbs.
Are we seeing a change in defensive philosophy? Seems like we're concentrating on this size of player vs the 295+ lb (maybe not many in the portal). I like it. Have a personnel group that's all about this size but quick and fast for passing downs. Quit with the 2 DL and 2 LBs. The two bigger guys almost never get pressure on the QB. Let's get quicker guys rushing and see what happens. Can't be worse than no pressure, right?

The portal guys they’re on aren’t as long as what they usually try to recruit. The arm reach on these guys isn’t the normal we see. Which is often why they start at a school below. Is it an intentional shift in philosophy or is it just what we can get at this point? Guess we’ll see.
Anbd here is the over arching question....what is the DL rotation going to look like. We can't' revert from 3-4 overnight.
DE: Jerod Smith/I assume Henry-Young is still an option
NG: I guess it's Kendrick Gilbert and is Denarious Jackson ready to backup
DT: Saunders/Brian Robinson should be growing into DT I assume (or is he DE)
For sure there are so many holes in that depth chart. I assume this DL looks like more of DE option to me. To which Saunders could easily bump to DT IMO. I truly am intrigued on seeing Jerod Smith and Brian Robinson play.
Wonder if this guy ever though about being a OLB, because that kind of size isn't going to cut it on an SEC line. That or he better start hot boxing donuts and creatine.
I want to be excited about these transfers but I just can't. This guy is an undersized DLman who comes from a tiny assed CUSA school. He's giving up 100 pounds on average on either side of the line. Just not seeing it for immediate impact.

i think it's mostly about who is available in the portal at UK's price point. If they were going after a NG they'd be after heavier guys. If they could get a prototypical 6'4'' 280lb DE then they would all things considered.
6'4'', 255 lbs reads like a DT or a DE at a FCS school w/ a below average S&C and nutrition program. I don't think these other programs would be after him if they didn't think he could add good weight. I think the idea is he ends up closer to Rybka in a year or two. This two deep suggests that he comes from a base 3-4 defense.
First, the guy weighs 255 lbs. He doesn't give up 100 lbs to anyone.
Second, the bookend edge rushers at USCjr: 6'-5", 254 lbs, 6'-6", 248 lbs. You might remember those two as they spent as much time in our backfield as our RBs did that game. I'm not saying this kid is as good as either one, of course, but he is not undersized to get the job done. Nick Bosa, one of the best rush DEs in the NFL is 6'-4" and 266 lbs. I think he's plenty big enough to be pretty good, don't you?
Third, in 4+ years, we got very little from JJ Weaver. I'm willing to give someone like this a chance to match/exceed JJ's production.
I'm all on board with many here who believe next year is not looking good, about the same as this year, unfortunately. But, dismissing transfers without ever laying eyes on them is just being dogmatically pessimistic prematurely, imo.
Hayes will be NT backed by Gilbert and Austin Ramsey. White's very high on Ramsey. Hopefully D Jackson figures in at NT but don't forget when he got here White said: "He has a long way to go." Let's hope he gets there.
So Hayes still has eligibility? He has been logging snaps since 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 adn 2024....are we sure has eligibility?
