Sacha Killeya-Jones Has Committed to Kentucky

If Cal wants him, that's good enough. I think the only recruit that Cal really wanted, got, and didn't pan out in any way is Stacey Poole. Wiltjer transferred, but that's really common, and he contributed well in 2011-2012. Goodwin tried, but he wasn't as good as he wished he was, plus he had no other options. Have there been any total washouts?

Scout North Carolina forum , they're acting like they didn't want him anyways lol character issues.

I disagree with this mindset.

I think EVERYONE knew about AD. It seems unanimous that SKJ had a huge summer, and Cal isn't seeing a diamond in the rough that no one else has spotted.

Moreso, what you say about the others. Cal WANTED Shabazz. He didn't back off of him because "Oh, he stopped developing." Shabazz had 18 and 5 at UCLA. If you believe Cal develops players--Shabazz would have succeeded at UK.

AD's class was dominated by Austin Rivers and MKG from ninth grade until the summer of 2010, when Davis became known by everybody. Cal was famously on him before anyone but Illinois and DePaul. It's not apple to apples to compare AD's final ranking to SKJ's ranking the summer before his senior year. Even Skal was considered a borderline top ten guy before the final rankings, which have him #1. AD is a megastar, but not everyone knew it right away.

As far as Shabazz goes, he had a well documented age issue, and it hurt his draft status. He was a grown man dominating kids. How hard Cal went after him was a subject of great debate.

They know the second they are eliminated from the NCAA tournament this year -- and that will be BEFORE the Final Four, write it down -- they will cease to play meaningful basketball for 3-5 years, which will include an NCAA imposed athletic program-wide ban from post-season play, followed by a rebuild.

By the way, I went there to read comments and found I was banned. I don't remember ever even posting there. Apparently I was banned as a lurker on the day the NCAA charges came down. LOL. They have the regard for openness and honest behavior of Saddam's Iraq.

And when that happens, UNC will be working on a two decade final four drought.

Lot's of people don't realize how much Duke being in their state is going to effect things moving forward. UNC cant afford off the court issues at this time. Imagine UK neck deep into an academic scandal while Louisville and Rick were working on their 7th championship. It's quite unbelievable whats happened to UNC. I don't believe they'll ever fully recover.

Like others have said glad to get this kid now let's hope some of the others start to say they are coming to UK.

Let's just be real here ... The Cheats would be falling all over themselves if they'd landed this kid. His stock is trending way up! If Roy was recruiting him, and UNC** fans think he isn't very good, then obviously they don't have much confidence in their own coach. Not that I would blame them. Roy couldn't even reel in a 5* in his own backyard. I'd be more worried about competing for recruits with UL, and that's laughable. UNC** better hope they cut down the nets this season, because the future is looking very bleak on the recruiting front. Going to be funny watching them play walk-ons for a couple years and getting their fudge packed by UK, Duke, and State. [laughing]

Bet he's one of the first 15 players taken when he enters the NBA Draft. That may be in two years, or even three ,but he's a lottery pick. He's young, he's 6'11, he's coordinated, he's mobile, he's long, and he has great feet and shooting touch.

If you can show me 20-25 better players in 2016, then you've seen some guys I haven't. I hadn't paid any attention to him until the UVA decommitment but he's really blowing up. If we land Fox, Monk and company, with bigs who can run like this, we're going to be absurdly quick.

He's one of those guys whose on the rise. By this time next year he'll definitely be a 5star. Top 20, maybe even better.

Think Sacha is a 2-3 year guy like WCS, but when Cal eventually turns him into a lottery pick - while old Roy's bigs (Hicks, Meeks, James, etc) are lucky if they're picked in the second round after 3-4 years - it's going to be a very nice feather in Cal's cap for Tobacco Road recruits in the future.

Really excited to have this kid at Kentucky. I think his potential is off the charts. What he needs to work on more than anything is his motor and his mind-set and that is where Cal excels.

Probably play him at the 5, unless Ayton reclassifies and comes.
Then he can sell giles at the 4 and Gabriel/bridges to play the 3.
Throw in 2 of monk/fultz/fox/Alkins and we will be loaded.
I know, I know...Giles is going to Duke.
I still think UK might have more of a chance than people think.
Cousins, jones, Davis, Noel, towns, stein and skal will be next.
Has to be hard for Giles not to see that, especially Davis and then towns going #1 over okafor.
We will see.

No, he's not a Duke lock. Please, let's not start this crap about how every good player has their tongue up Coach K's you know what. We have recruited loads of players that Coach K would have died to have and this is just another one. Don't be surprised if we land Giles who, BTW, is attending UK's BBM.

According to DX :

Strengths:

-Great physical profile. Good frame that will continue to fill out in time. Long arms (7-2 wingspan, 9-1 standing reach). Big hands.
-Terrific size for a power forward at 6-9 ½ without shoes.
-Bouncy athlete. Can play above the rim with relative ease. Moves like a wing. Outstanding body control for his size.
-Versatile scorer – 25.2 points per 40 minutes pace adjusted. Natural touch. Very good in face up situations. Uses spin moves. Can make turnarounds from the mid post. Able to straight-line attack from the perimeter. Solid handle for his size.
-Nice touch from three. Made 4-of-8 3-pointers and 68% of his free throws. Good mechanically. Gets very good arc on his shot. Not a finished product as a shooter but shows potential.
-Has the tools to be a solid defender and rebounder.
-Just turned 17 years old two days ago.

Weaknesses:
-Doesn't have a great feel for the game. Can be a bit of a black hole. Had only six assists compared with 25 turnovers in 10 games on the adidas circuit. Spins into double teams. Poor understanding of where the help defense is.
-Disinterested on the defensive end. Has the tools and mobility but stands around a bit too often. Motor comes and goes on that end. Reaction time and awareness is average as well.
-Posted just .7 steals and 1.5 blocks per-40 minutes at adidas events this summer, which is very poor considering his physical tools and the level of competition. Partially a product of his lack of awareness, and partially due to lack of intensity?
-Not much of a rebounder at this stage – 8 boards per 40 minutes pace adjusted. Can be tougher on the defensive glass and show more fight on the offensive glass.
-Very good frame but still has some room to get stronger and tougher. Only 202 pounds at the moment

Outlook:
Sacha Killeya-Jones was one of the most intriguing power forward prospects at Adidas Nations given his fairly polished offensive skill set and remaining upside. With size, length, athleticism and offensive versatility, Killeya-Jones is a high-major player who fits the bill of the modern NBA face-up four. The North Carolina native has a ways to go in terms of his feel for the game, awareness, and defensive toughness/motor, but given his age and upside, the future is bright for Killeya-Jones. Initially committed to Virginia, but backed off and has recently received offers from all the top schools in college basketball, including Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, Florida and others.

Kid can play. Dukies claiming we are taking their left overs.
I take it that you're the Dookie that is saying that... Coach K might as well send them to the NBA early, they don't go to school in the ACC... Coach K learned from Cal, but Cal will beat him more often that he will beat Cal...

Watching a bit of video on this kid I'm getting a sense of what a more raw Nerlens Noel might have looked like a year before he matured into the player he was at UK. Almost identical height-weight stats. Obviously, Nerlens was a consensus Top 1-2 in the class recruit, so It would be extreme optimism to expect SKJ to be on that level. But he looks quick off the floor on the defensive end, with excellent instincts on blocking shots. And his offensive skills are ahead of NN.

I'm not sure I see the comparison with Noel. Jones is much more offensive minded and skilled than Noel. He has way better ball handling skills that can create shots for him. Noel couldn't create a shot with crayons when he got in Lexington. Jones may have good instincts to block shots but Nerlens was a damn freak of nature when it came to defense and blocking shots. He looked to make his impact on that end of the court. I just think they're completely different type of players, Jones is a stretch 4 type who can get to the rim and score in various ways and Nerlens was a straight rim protector. This is just my opinion and I could be wrong.
