Rock or whoever on Conyer to the Vols

Yenser has already stated publicly that his desire is to get back to the NFL. He's an NFL guy, so may be a matter of time there. I'll be surprised if Scangarello is here long. Don't think he'll be much of a recruiter anyway. Much different personality type than Coen. Night and day.
Missed that about Yenser, not surprised about Scan. Regardless, Stoops can't be replacing his OL/OC every year.

I'll add this about Stewart. I'm surprised that he has basically been non-existent as a recruiter in this class. A year or so ago, I thought he was making strides, but it just hasn't happened.

Also, at last month's camps, he was my favorite coach to watch teach and his enthusiasm was great. Which makes me wonder why the recruiting results aren't better. He comes off very likeable.

In what area? DB play has tanked on the field since Clinkscale departed for Michigan, and we can't sign a 3 star DB out of our own back yard.

The DB cost us at least 2 wins last year against UT and Ms. State. Unprepared for the passing game and dominated at every position by their WR.

Couldn't cover a RB or H back if their life depended on it.

Stoops has got to find a way to upgrade the talent AND the coaching at DB even if he has to take over again.
Or, we will have to outscore our opponents in a shootout.... and Stoops won't do that.
Our recruiting has a lot of problems now, probably one HUGE one that everyone is talking about. But I guess leading our football team to TWO consecutive TWO win seasons buys you a lot of extra time.

I think there is ONE person responsible for the poor recruiting. They have to take someone to fill out the roster.

Technically no AD or school offers deals. That’s up to the athletes to make their own deals. The schools will help the athletes in handling it after they are enrolled. At least that’s how it’s supposed to be with the NCAA. Anyone that thinks these collectives aren’t working hand in hand with the coaches and schools is fooling theirselves in my opinion. It’s basically the wild Wild West out there. Maybe Mitch is handcuffing you and if he is then he must not want to win at football because lots of these kids realize nothing is guaranteed and nfl money probably won’t come so they better get what they can now plus many need it now. I don’t know how much NIL factored in with Conyer but it had to play a part. I doubt either school had a huge gap in what they offered as far as NIL. All SEC schools have a whole lot of resources and money. NIL will level and spread the playing field of talent. Alabama and Ohio state and a select few now probably won’t be able to stack 4 or 5 deep in their depth charts that are better than other schools starters. Those kids won’t want to go sit 3 years and get half the money they can get at other schools. You win some and you lose some in recruiting. We would have loved to had the twins last year and they were from Tennessee so that one stung for sure. Conyer stings for y’all. Only the athlete and his people close to him really know what made him decide one way or another. The rest of us are just keyboard jockeys who are guessing or taking some media persons narrative and running with it. In the end the last few years in this football series has made for some exciting games and a good rivalry. UK’s recruiting right now is struggling some but stoops and marrow are too good and proven not to get good talent. I fully expect y’all to rise in recruiting rankings and to sign lots of good recruits. They are proven at developing players too. I’m loooking forward to this years match up.
Wow. You are an educated, logical and rational poster from Tennessee. We r not used to this. You mean to tell me not all Tennessee fans are mustard throwing fanatics??

Yeah, Stewart was one I thought would be a really good recruiter...and may still be for the reasons we've given. Lots of plusses and potential, let's hope he catches on soon.

I think NIL has thrown recruiting into a whirlwind and the old factors of building relationships, connecting with the parents/families/handlers are no longer the deciding factors in where a kid will go to school.

Money and perks are the drivers now. The schools that have been first to the feed trough with a wealthy collective are reaping first in the harvest of the top players.

UT and TA&M are two prime examples. They are both signing players they could never sign legally with an 8-4 and a 7-6 record for last year.

Players are cashing in now BEFORE the gravy train is dried up. To the benefit of the schools willing to bend the rules.

Maybe we should ask our AD what the problem is.

Ideally on a staff you want a good approximate 50/50 mix between known established recruiters and developers. I feel that right now that mix has gotten way out of balance toward the developers end of the spectrum. It will be interesting to see if Stoops shakes up his staff after this season in December. That is, if he is here himself.
Care to go a little deeper on that last sentence

They're predicting we are getting a 4 star DV out of Bama's backyard. Bama isn't recruiting him though. 😂

I have zero inside info, zero. But, I do believe that Stoops wants to be able to do more with NIL than Kentucky currently allows. Also, he has been harping on getting a new/renovated indoor facility for a long time now. That project still has yet to be started. Remember, that they have to have a place to move the track team to. So their new facility which will be built from scratch has to come first. As far as I know, they have yet to begin any breaking of ground there. In other words, I could see the combination of these two things finally driving him elsewhere.

The initial part of that project was just bid out. It was to tear the old track out. It was in the bid that it was apart of a future bid to build the new facility. Should be soon

It better be. These aren't overnight projects and Stoops isn't going to wait around forever.

Yep cannot replace the OC every year unless your head coach is the defacto OC/play caller which is obviously not the case here. We’d then be behind the 8 ball with ‘24 quarterbacks just like we are now with ‘23 quarterbacks. have thought about this with Scangarello recruiting Danny O’Neil. What are odds he’s here for even O’Neil’s freshman season? Just wouldn’t be a sustainable strategy.

Thought I read it would be after the start of the fiscal year, July 1. One would think this work begins soonest.

He got a 700k offer on his official to Kentucky put on the table for him and that swung thing in Kentucky favor big time. So much so, I thought up until yesterday that he was going to Kentucky. Tennessee did not offer him a 1/3 of that kind of money. You don’t get kids like Nico by giving deals because you are desperate for other kids.
They should have listened to you and not gave Lal that to Conyer. They didn't have enough left for Francis. 🤣

Wow, now I am getting scared.

Even the Rock saying losing Stoops is a possibility.

Lol nah man. I appreciate the compliment. I’ve never understood going to another teams board and trying to haze them and talk smack. I’m an adult. It’s college sports and we all love it so much and get passionate about it. There’s great people in every fan base and bad ones in all. The mustard throwing was dumb and childish even if you hated the calls and were angry about them. I like good competition. Sure I wanna see my team win them all but it’s a game and at the end of the day I’m not gonna let whether some high school kid wants to come play for my school or not get to me or ruin my mood. Life is way more than that. I’ve got kids to raise and there’s way more in the world that matter than where a college kid plays ball and tries to get their degree from. We missed out on a big recruit today to Miami so some of the fans of other teams can take some delight in that. It’s all good. I’ve got steaks on the grill and they are gonna be fine. Happy 4th y’all

It's actually a good thing if you are replacing your OC every year because it means you are successful. You just can't change your system every year. You really want to be every other year in reality but if you are having enough success that your OC is moving back to the NFL then that's a good thing.

Name me an assistant change that was an upgrade

Clicksdale -> Collins
Hood -> Buffano
LeBlanc -> Stewart
Wolford -> Yenser
Coen -> Scan
Sumner -> Mi Stoops

Pretty dramatic downgrade in recruiting at every slot. Trash Wolford for his playing rotations or the way he left, but Saban ain't hiring a recruiting dud.

We can blather and blindly speculate about NIL effects all we want, but if Mark Stoops is bothered in July having a 70th rznked/14th in the SEC class.....he can look in the mirror 1st of all

Understand your blather point but, if MANY of us are on here discussing our insecurities with CMS tolerance of NIL/TP and how it negatively affects UK, then the point is moot and we will soon see the best UK coach since Bear leave…

I'm not sure how to quantify it really. I just think they are behind on NIL and how they are approaching it. And like him or not, if you read Matt Jones' tweets yesterday after the Conyer decision, I think that said a lot. If you haven't read those tweets, you should.

Done tweet but I assume his message was that UK needs to play the NIL games like our annual opponents?

Uh, yikes!

Then this will probably be Stoops’ last year here. He’s worked too hard to see the program go down the tubes because the AD is acting like he’s holier than thou.
Which is horse shit and why U need to quit worrying. This isn’t on Mitch.

Hey, look at the bright side, at least we haven't gone ten years with no real improvements to football. At least not yet, but looks like he might have found another way to destroy our athletic department.
Moron… Good Lord.

After replacing 5 assts this past off-season I can't imagine Stoops doing much more other than what events warrant. Simply put, guys like Collins, Stewart, Yenser, Brother Stoops have GOT to step up their game.

I too can see Stoops hauling if he continues to run into MB's stonewall.
Stoops need to quit going to the NFL to get coaches. Get college guys with experience with good programs.

I see 5 teams that are all in on the FIL. ATM, Texas, Miami, SoCal, UT and Louisville is right there too. Everyone else is recruiting about like normal. Don't think it makes any difference what Louisville does because their coach is unproven, Cristobol's teams were soft at Oregon,doubt they are any different at Miami, which want hurt much T Miami. Sark has been a bad head coach, Jimbo has always had talent but a 3-5 game loser ever year without Jamis, Chumblee's teams have regressed everywhere he has been their 2nd year. So even if those teams finish 1-6 in recruiting rankings, those head coaches have lots of losses between them.

If that’s true, I would have to doubt the kids’ overall intelligence.

His family will have to drive farther to see him play than had he gone to UK, for a half million less, and UK/Stoops has a strong record putting DB’s into the League.

Relationships?

It must have been one heck of a relationship?!?!?!

What is the FIL?

Face, image and likeness?

Seriously, you use that abbreviation, a lot, and the “N” and the “F” are not close together on the typical screen/typing board.

Keep it up and I’ll start misspelling UGA as UGB!!

Not disagreeing with most of that. OSU is playing the game to some extent. Those 6 are gonna finish towards the top. Though just judging by current avg and the player predictions ND and OSU are gonna stay in the top 6. After several more of these top guys commit, Bama is gonna be there also. You guys aren't falling much, if any. UGA's avg ranking is higher than most of those teams. We will see how it plays out. Clemson is on a hot streak also, now sure if they're playing the game or not

I can't say for a fact what we are doing with FIL. We have lost kids to Miami, going to lose one to Louisville, just lost the second to Texas, A DL who was on commit watch until Texas visit. We have arguably the top DL coach in the country, a top strength and conditioning program and kid opts for Texas, I can understand Arch's decision. But what we are being told is we are using FIL for kids already in Athens.

Your last sentence apparently pertains to UK too.

Be interesting to see how it turns out but Oklahoma St HC Gundy says these NIL highs TN, U6, A&M, etc are on cannot be sustained for any period of time. Time will tell if he's right.
