Some are saying the NIL money won out, some are saying we made a better NIL offer but he picked Tenn strictly for FB reasons
Care to way in ?

Tennessee offered a quarterback 8 million. I don’t buy that we offered more and got stood up. Mitch is holding us back with his personal beliefs.

I think the whole NIL thing figures in but not sure to what extent. We could be seeing the effects of Stoops having to replace something 5 coaches in like an eight month period. Maybe the new guys just haven't caught traction yet. Or it could be a combination. I just know something has to change or this recruiting cycle is going to be Jokeresque.

The vols are desperate to be revelant in the SEC, they will do anything to get there. Paying a HS kid 8m is proof. UK has had officials publicly state UK isn't entery that realm. Yet a vol comes on here and post if he picks UK its because of aNIL deal. But he picks the vols its because of their football program?

I'm not convinced that Conyer was a big enough name to get a huge offer. He is a good player but he's not a top 50 level player. The range that he's in there's at least 50 high school athletes at his position similar to him.

Hey Rock can you explain this whole nil deal with Mitch and his so called reluctance against it? I see Matt Jones talking about it on social media and I can almost guarantee Vince is expressing his feelings to him. They’re very tight

considering none of us actually know the facts, i will withhold judgement
Typically I would agree. But it's been apparent for a few years that MJ has become the unofficial spokesman for UK football. As crazy as that is, Stoops and Marrow have been able to get things out to the public through Matt. If he's saying this now, it's because Marrow or Stoops are asking him to let it out.

He got a 700k offer on his official to Kentucky put on the table for him and that swung thing in Kentucky favor big time. So much so, I thought up until yesterday that he was going to Kentucky. Tennessee did not offer him a 1/3 of that kind of money. You don’t get kids like Nico by giving deals because you are desperate for other kids.

Sorry I believe thats a lie. Our AD doesn't allow us to offer recruits NIL money, that's why we are upset. You can get NIL deals if you play here and the powers that be give you one, but we don't offer them to football or basketball recruits. So I'm not buying this man, sorry.

At least that's my understanding. Someone tell if I'm wrong here plz. A UK fan that is lol

Don't believe this for a minute, no freaking way. And to give an untried 18 y/o $8M before he plays a down of SEC football smacks of desperation. That's totally unsustainable.

Technically no AD or school offers deals. That’s up to the athletes to make their own deals. The schools will help the athletes in handling it after they are enrolled. At least that’s how it’s supposed to be with the NCAA. Anyone that thinks these collectives aren’t working hand in hand with the coaches and schools is fooling theirselves in my opinion. It’s basically the wild Wild West out there. Maybe Mitch is handcuffing you and if he is then he must not want to win at football because lots of these kids realize nothing is guaranteed and nfl money probably won’t come so they better get what they can now plus many need it now. I don’t know how much NIL factored in with Conyer but it had to play a part. I doubt either school had a huge gap in what they offered as far as NIL. All SEC schools have a whole lot of resources and money. NIL will level and spread the playing field of talent. Alabama and Ohio state and a select few now probably won’t be able to stack 4 or 5 deep in their depth charts that are better than other schools starters. Those kids won’t want to go sit 3 years and get half the money they can get at other schools. You win some and you lose some in recruiting. We would have loved to had the twins last year and they were from Tennessee so that one stung for sure. Conyer stings for y’all. Only the athlete and his people close to him really know what made him decide one way or another. The rest of us are just keyboard jockeys who are guessing or taking some media persons narrative and running with it. In the end the last few years in this football series has made for some exciting games and a good rivalry. UK’s recruiting right now is struggling some but stoops and marrow are too good and proven not to get good talent. I fully expect y’all to rise in recruiting rankings and to sign lots of good recruits. They are proven at developing players too. I’m loooking forward to this years match up.

You said it brother, I hope he plays as a true freshman this year and Dane Key has a day with him
Or Barion Brown. That would melt the Vol fans down if a TN player smoked them him on the field.
They would sware it was a conspiracy perpetrated by The Big Dog to make Conyers look bad.

If he actually plays CB as a freshman in the SEC, he will get plenty of opportunities to get roasted on the field.

Right, I understand how collectives work. That was my point. Our AD won't allow us to have one because he believes the NCAA will outlaw them and punish the schools that used them. Don't get me wrong, we wanna offer recruits NIL deals, our AD doesn't. We have sucked for so long we want Stoops to have NIL as a weapon moving forward

I too am looking forward to our match up this year. You still own us, no doubt about it man. We are as talented as y'all are these days, but until we win more than 3 in 40 years, not much to crow at UT fans about still sadly

It’s still been some tight games that could have gone either way. It’s one of my favorite matchups all though I kinda wish it was earlier in the year with better weather. I get the Tennessee hate from Kentucky’s side in football because Of the series record and to be honest tennessee had the same feelings about Kentucky in basketball. Nothing better than border state schools and good rivalries. It’s what makes college football special. Surely Mitch will ease up on the NIL stuff and be more cooperative. The whole game changed when it came into play as we all know and recognize and I know he knows that too. Pandora’s box was opened for better or worse and no matter how anyone feels about it personally it’s here to stay. I don’t want to see Kentucky get handicapped and out at such an unfair disadvantage like that or any other sec school. Well maybe bama for about 2 decades since I feel like they’ve had such an unfair advantage over everyone and rubbed it in our faces for a long long time lol

Barion Brown is a stud. I hope the kid keeps it clean off the field. He will play in the NFL one day.

It’s a relative thing though. If they have 8 million to buy California quarterbacks I’m pretty sure they will be offering more money to lesser recruits as compared to what we will offer .

Five positiontion coaches jn 8 months? Name them please. .

What are we offering? Eight times nothing?

I do not believe this was an NIL situation and Kentucky lost him because of that. I simply think he liked Tennessee better and that is where his heart is. However, I do think NIL is a factor (but not the only one) as to why Kentucky's class is where it is at this point. I also do not think Conyer is a huge on the field loss, but was a huge loss for the optics of where recruiting is right now and the fact that Vince recruited this kid hard for two plus years. JMO.

Overall Rock, do you see NIL getting better or worse for us? It really pains me to see the progress UK has made in the 10 years Stoops has been here only to see yet another unattainable hurdle strategically placed in front of UK football.

I'm not sure how to quantify it really. I just think they are behind on NIL and how they are approaching it. And like him or not, if you read Matt Jones' tweets yesterday after the Conyer decision, I think that said a lot. If you haven't read those tweets, you should.

Hey, look at the bright side, at least we haven't gone ten years with no real improvements to football. At least not yet, but looks like he might have found another way to destroy our athletic department.

I stated elsewhere that NIL is only part of it. Massive asst turnover hasn't helped. Those new guys need to get busy, step up their game. Some are new to recruiting at this level and it shows.

Ideally on a staff you want a good approximate 50/50 mix between known established recruiters and developers. I feel that right now that mix has gotten way out of balance toward the developers end of the spectrum. It will be interesting to see if Stoops shakes up his staff after this season in December. That is, if he is here himself.

After replacing 5 assts this past off-season I can't imagine Stoops doing much more other than what events warrant. Simply put, guys like Collins, Stewart, Yenser, Brother Stoops have GOT to step up their game.

I too can see Stoops hauling if he continues to run into MB's stonewall.

Stewart and Settle are the two I'll be very interested to see what happens. Also, Scangarello and Yenser being NFL guys. I could see one or both back in the NFL.

Collins for one has definitely been here for more than 8 months-------and doing quite well, thank you.
In what area? DB play has tanked on the field since Clinkscale departed for Michigan, and we can't sign a 3 star DB out of our own back yard.

The DB cost us at least 2 wins last year against UT and Ms. State. Unprepared for the passing game and dominated at every position by their WR.

Couldn't cover a RB or H back if their life depended on it.

Stoops has got to find a way to upgrade the talent AND the coaching at DB even if he has to take over again.
Or, we will have to outscore our opponents in a shootout.... and Stoops won't do that.

Have been disappointed to date in Stewart. Young guy, UK background, good personality...thought he'd be a better recruiter(still may be, maybe he just hasn't caught traction yet). I think Settle goes, just a feeling. Don't know about NFL guys. If Scan goes Stoops is going to have to rethink the NFL approach. Need guys here longer than a year. Have a feeling Yenser stays, seems like more of a college guy. Do hope we have less drama with assts than last year.

Yenser has already stated publicly that his desire is to get back to the NFL. He's an NFL guy, so may be a matter of time there. I'll be surprised if Scangarello is here long. Don't think he'll be much of a recruiter anyway. Much different personality type than Coen. Night and day.
