RIP- Alumni Gym

Sorry, put me in the crowd that's not buying it.

1. The original Alumni Gym is not 44.
2. The original Alumni Gym was a number of things, positive and negative. Loving attention was his number one negative.
3. I was his friend, so I'm comfortable saying this.
The Alumni Gym that I remember posting would talk about games back in Rupp's day he attended. He was either lying about his age back then or someone lying now.

I liked to read his stuff for comedy. He could create an arguement out of nothing. Even if you agreed with him he couldn't recognize it and would rant. He was too big of a fan. Like I said earlier, he loved the Cats so much it made him retarded to the rest of the sports world (my Dads like this). The best, and worst fans, we have all in one.

So BLW was a fraud death? Couldn't stand him, we disagreed on everything, but hated seeing anyone pass. I was away for a good while and must have missed it being exposed. Pretty crappy to lie like that. How was that proven?

Sounds just like the guy I thought he was. And that guy changed his handle to bluegrassbaron. My iPhone spell checked adolf to Adolph one time and he lost his sh*t. Even when we found common ground on the topic he still could not let it go.

It might be a case of a simple mistake with the user name. I'm definitely not trying to come off as not being sympathetic to the OP for losing his friend. I just don't think his friend is the same as our friend.

AG told me a lot of stories. He did not graduate high school 2 years before me. He was not 44 years old.

Probably mistaken identity right. I meant he wasn't 44.

I hate to question something like this but this thread is fishy as hell. He wasn't 44, and no actual details of how he died (not that they have to be released obviously) no name given and no obituary posted and OP just expects people to believe it?

If AG did die RIP. If not then OP has serious explaining to do. My gut tells me something isn't right with this thread though.

It just doesn't make any sense. I am a person who normally questions things maybe more than others, but I can't seem to connect the dots in this thread. It doesn't add up.

After searching and finding a thread there still remains questions.

The thread I read was from August. The Alumni Gym in thread was an insufferable ass and started an argument early in the thread and wouldn't let it go. That would seem to be the guy I remember. He only had 140 or so post though, seems low to me. It also indicated he was last seen on Oct 12. So the reasoning for leaving is unknown (run off/sickness?).

We do have several who remember how he mentioned his age, and how much he remembers first hand from eras in the distant past.

Tough call. An arguement can be made for either side. Enough circumstantial evidence to suggest this is BS to at least get a rethread.

If not condolences.

AG made references in years past that would make it impossible to be 44 , either not the same AG or this is a hoax .

used to be a poster who claimed he'd be lucky to see 40 or something. I've always gotten along with him. Maybe that was caneintally. Can't rememeber.

Don't know why I bring it up.

I checked the deaths at Vandy hospital all the way back to December 31, no deaths of a man aged 44. No obituary in Owensboro for a man aged 44.

By what I can tell we've have an Aumni Gym and an alumnigym.

Alumni Gym appears to the be the guy the OP is talking about. He was the very zealous fan who did the list and hated UNC and was the self appointed UK historian. A very passionate poster but at times was simply too arrogant in his fan hood. Even to fellow fans.

The OP said his friend was from Owensboro as was Alumni Gym. This I know for fact. I know his name but won't say at this moment. We exchanged several emails about the happenings on CI. AG was not his first username. Someone here has already gotten one.

I got the impression AG would've been much older than 44, but idk. I did a Google search with his real name, and there is a person by that name, age 40-44 in the Owensboro area.

At any rate, if he's passed, condolences to his family and friends. If he hasn't, well........... Either way he still knows how to amp up this board.

I've been holding off responding to this thread until I could locate an obituary, but the above is consistent with my information and experiences.

Those who say he wasn't between 40-44, I think must be mistaking him with someone else.

I've seen the user name and remember posts, but never knew him personally. If he has passed my condolences to his family.

I hope so, for a number of reasons. Again I'm not attempting to disparage anyone. It's just that tons of us "old guard" spent plenty of time talking/debating with AG. Unless I'm insane, I would think that we all have the same memories. @Bkocats am I mixed up here?

I don't think you are, Tru. I could be wrong -but IIRC - Alumni Gym is/was a long time poster with a high count; he disappeared for a long while (don't know if he was banned or what); then he returned. The post count was lower, but he said - again if IIRC - that he was just returning and his post count had been reset, or something like that.

I'm pretty certain he was here when I first started posting, and I do recall discussions/arguments. He went back and forth quite a bit with that unc**faninky dude. NO doubt he is/was a passionate UK fan; but he did rub many people the wrong way.

there were two with similar names - can't remember the other one though.

Sorry for the confusion- he was the author of "the list". I believe some mistakened his passion for arrogance.

Man, you could solve all of this in one small respectful post, but you won't. So, I don't know. Sounds like a game to me. I wouldn't get too upset about it either as people have lied about dying in the past.

No facts to go on + you will give zero info to validate. We all like alumni gym. If he's gone we'd like to really know.

Some may have. Many did not. He was passionate. To the point of being very abrasive and arrogant at times about it. But also at times he was passionate, knowledgable and enlightening. With JF being your friend, I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't know.

I do understand people's skepticism because we had another poster to pull some shenanigans. Some have asked for an obit, which I understand too. It's public record and I don't think it's too invasive on privacy. Many really liked him and would like to read it. If I find it, I'm going to post it.

Lol.

You keep acting shocked that someone is having a hard time believing it. You've got mods here that are having a tough time.

When you want to give us something real, come back. If not, thanks for info and just move along. Forgive some of us for really wanting to find out about alumni and being confused when "your info" doesn't amount to anything. I gave you three shots to confirm it and you refuse. Add your post count, and it makes it even tougher. Simply put, we don't know you and can't verify anything. Got it?

We're not evil we just arent stupid. I really like alumni and hope it's crap. My favorite kind of fan.

Well it is a message board. It's not the end all. I'm sure you've read a lot on here and can get a vibe on it. I think people are just gun shy because of a past fiasco. Some voice that skepticism and some probably don't. Don't let it get you down. I truly believe many just want a confirmation to be able to truly pay their respects.

this exactly.

I, for one, hope there is a mistake. I did like AG even if I didn't always get along with him :)

And, truly - most of us do want to know what happened to him and most of us want to offer our sincerest condolences.

This thread has gone in an unforeseen direction, I should probably leave it alone but as anyone who cares to read this post can see I have not.

The AG Poster that I am familiar with was on the UNC scandal very early and seemed to have a 'source' that provided information before it was common knowledge on the boards in general. He also had a great knowledge of UK history(particularly the Rupp years) his writing style and content suggested a person older than their 40's. I recall he often posted of events (games etc) that occurred in the 60's from a perspective of someone that had seen them first hand. I took him to be someone of my age or older. I think that is the confusion among some posters here. When someone loses a friend or family member it is a difficult time, we have all had that happen and we get thru it the best that we can and go on. We have a core of old time posters here, we know each other on the computer screen only but we get accustom to seeing the people we' know' here on a regular basis

If it is the AG that I came to' know' on the screen then I will miss his posts, if it is someone other than the person I 'knew' I understand the feeling of loss that his family and friends are going thru, we have all been there at one time or another

As you can see from my post count I'm not as frequent as others. I'm truly sorry if I have confused anyone- That was never my intention! I just came to honor a brother in life & thought others wld as well. Thanks to all who have taken the high road & has just accepted that even if I got a username confused w/ another -they still had sympathy
My apologies to "my" alumni gym 4 screwing this up- but those who truly knew him wld know that he wld have loved the drama-lol

This is correct. If you use the search function you will read his posts and see that he referred to players in the Rupp years as if he had seen them in person and was very passionate about those players. One instance he was talking about one of them that would have dominated Cousins...
Anyway, that person either watched a lot of old film, or had great childhood recall, but he did not sound 44. Also if you look you will see that his post count went from mid 5000 to 140 last October. I hope that he didn't die and just wanted to change his "game." Who knows. This board is kind of a game anyway. It's entertainment. Hopefully this is a play. If not, again, RIP AG.

The Alumni Gym who sparred with UNC fans seemed to be getting info from @Aligned_for_9. I assumed they were friends.

Several posters gave AG a hard time about what he purported to know. I believe he left the board during this time. Not sure why.

Someone posting as @Bluegrass Baron appeared later, seeming to be AG.

Later, someone with the handle Alumni Gym began posting again. He claimed to be the same poster from earlier who had been sparring over UNC. His post count was much lower, but he had been a board member for several years.

I don't know if there was ever an "AlumniGym" with no space between. I don't recall.
