RIP- Alumni Gym

As a loyal University of Kentucky basketball fan, he became an amateur historian for the "Wildcats". His knowledge of all UK teams, past and present, earned him the respect and appreciation of fans and sportswriters alike. Through his blogs and tweets, he became a recognized "Wildcat" raconteur.

Ok; guess it hasn't made it to the M&I obit page yet.

I knew his aunt Cynthia Bostick. She was Miss Kentucky 1970.

RIP AG.

Still never would have imagined he was as young as 44. I would have sworn mid to late 60s by how he acted in bantering with me. Sad to see that, but great to put a face with a user name after all these years.

Not to be disrespectful, or OT to the thread's intent, but isn't 8 days after someone passing a long time before the funeral? Of course, I don't know if it is a burial or cremation. I apologize, again, not trying to be rude, but every funeral I have been to has been 2-3 days after passing max.

It isn't as rare as you might think it is. Yeah, it is out of the "norm" but every situation is different. I've seen the family wait a week or two so that a member of the family in the military can make it back for the service. There are a lot of other reasons, as well.

Is anyone on this thread, besides the two who knew him personally, going to post a message on the guestbook on the funeral home's webpage? I would like to express condolences, but don't know if it would be appropriate

I say go for it. I feel bad for questioning it now, but it just goes to show why what BLW did was so insensitive and selfish. RIP AG you were one of the good ones.

I liked yours! Glad we did it.
me too, liked yours as well - and now I know your name, LOL

Folks - I hope that those of you who can, and wish to, will go to the Funeral Home website and sign the guestbook, too.

UNCFANINKY vs alumni gym were the best! They lived in same town and AG would always tell him to bring it. I know UNCFANINKY always lurks and talks so much crap. I know they knew each other personally and people in same circles. I wonder under the circumstances the chapel hill fan in Owensboro will show his condolences

Yep. It felt like we were getting an inside glimpse of a personal blood feud when those two locked horns on here. They clearly knew each other in real life and did NOT like each other at all. Always pictured those two eventually getting into a brawl at some Owensboro tavern.

There's plenty I remember about AG's posts (some of it, admittedly, was not so favorable, which I won't get into here), but what I liked about him was 1) his intense passion for UK, nobody's blood was more blue; 2) his deep appreciation/knowledge of the program's history; and 3) his intense hatred for North Carolina--a lot of us claim to hate North Carolina, but NOBODY ever hated North Carolina as much as AG. And it seemed to bother the hell out of him that one the most annoying UNC fans was posting from his own Kentucky hometown.

Perhaps in tribute to AG we should all try to hate North Carolina extra hard this year. I know he'd appreciate that.

Prisbell used to post here under a different name, AlumniJim I think it was. He was low profile but I remember him because he always spelled definitely with an a. Pet peeve of mine.
Sorry in advance. Its a pet peeve of mine too, but for some reason I still do it every time.

The only other poster I read that hated UNC as much as AG was kentuckystraightbourbon. Were they the same poster?

Good night, sweet prince

Are you serious??? Get a grip man! Maybe, just maybe his best friend doesn't want to discuss his actual death??? No, that couldn't be it. What kind of "hoax" would that be exactly anyway??? Smh

The OP could have ended any doubts early in this thread, and chose not to. All it took was a post from Aligned, kraziecats and a link by preacherfan to confirm what the op posted. Even 2 different Mods asked for a private link to the Obit, again the OP refused. I have a really good friend that posts on here, and if he passed today, the last thing on my mind would be to come here, and post a thread saying RIP (insert name here), and then not list a funeral home or an Obit so any that wanted to, could pass along any condolences. I went to the Davis funeral home web site and left a note, did you?
The OP created this whole fiasco and is now playing the pitiful me card. A lot of us old breed on here ALL thought the real AG was at least 20 years older than he was and thought maybe there was a name confusion, which is why we were seeking more info.

So, I have a really good grip here If the bold part is true, then why start the thread? This is a message board, if you start a thread, do NOT be surprised that there is a discussion that follows.

AG will be missed and I wish a speedy healing for his family and friends.

Apologize and move on. No need to re-hash this.

Just to address the issue of the obituary not being given sooner. I, too, had concerns that no obit was given even after 2 days. But, I also know, from experience, that obits are sometimes delayed for a variety of reasons, including if an adult passes away and it is unclear who had the legal rights/responsibility to make arrangements. This happened recently when distant relative of my family passed away unexpectedly.

I do believe that the OP had his heart in the right place and was doing the right thing. I also understand why some of us were questioning it openly or privately. For me, I was hoping it wasn't true. AG was part of our RR family.

Have thought about cleaning up the thread a bit, but I say this with good intentions and thoughts, this fits AG very well and his board history.

It fits with board and moderator history too, Jerry. AG was definitely a party to our virtuous "no holds barred" scene, so kudos to you for appreciating that, and for being part of what makes that happen. Hopefully Rafters will always be that one place on Rivals where it all hangs out in the open, where sensitivity and censorship is not part of the process. Let AG's memory continue roll that forward please. One quick sentence about the demand for the obit, I don't exactly think it was available until much sooner than it was actually provided.

Obituaries are submitted by the funeral home conducting the services. Since he passed away on Friday in Nashville. I'm not sure all the funeral arrangements were made quick enough to release a Monday morning obituary in the newspaper. Condolences to the friends and family on their loss. AG was a good person.

You are correct. I was checking the various funeral home web pages at every opportunity. When I found it, it had been up less than an hour or so.
