With gambling so prevalent in sports, you have to wonder if some refs officiate a game based on the spread. A good example would be if a good friend was at your house having a beer with you and while talking asked,"Who do you think is going to win tomorrow, Team A or Team B.
You say, (your going to be one of the refs), "Oh, probably Team A."
Your friend says, "I hope not, I bet 5 Grand on Team B. Team A is favored by 9 points (minus 9)."
I don't care who you are, most refs would think of that during the game. You don't want to see your friend lose 5 Grand. You may not cause Team A to lose, but I have no doubt, some refs would try and make sure Team A does not cover.
I know some on here will say, "Oh, that never happens." I'm convinced it happens much more then we think. There is to much money bet on sports for it not to happen. We have seen it happen in the last few years in the NBA, and I'm convinced it happens in the college game.
Several years ago in the ECAC Tournament in New YORK, I watched a ref call almost all the fouls that were called on UK. I believe we were playing Manhattan. We won, but it was as if the ref was going to make sure we didn't cover.
I know some on here will say that's not true, but at my age, I have seen a lot of strange calls.
