Not good. Need a break in there at some point. Would gladly take a 6 1/3, 3 ER appearance out of Weaver at this rate if the offense shows up. Williamson looked like he was rolling along fine tonight until he got in the jam when the down pour of rain hit. Should have called it at that point. Cruz taking one for the team and wouldn't be surprised if he or someone else that pitches tonight gets sent down for a fresh arm out of Louisville.Reds starters the last 4 games
Innings 12.1

As of now, that's looking like Salazar catching the flight back to Derby City. Not good. Need a break in there at some point. Lots of pressure on a rookie tonight. The good news is Abbott has been up to the task and in complete control so far.Not good. Need a break in there at some point. Reds/Brewers will probably swap places several times in the coming weeks. Multiple games with each other around All-Star break should be fun. Appears Abbott is the "stopper", the guy who stops losing streaks but they really need SP help.Reds win, Brewers lose. Back on top by 0.5 games. Diaz save streak up to 27 and Weaver going tomorrow in the rubber match.
Absolutely, hopefully the Reds are still there when it matters most in the end. Abbott has been a blessing and hope that Phillips gets up here in time and contribute to this rotation. Pittsburgh appears to be fading. If the Cubs decide to buy and be aggressive at the deadline, they always seem have the money to do so in a much larger market and hanging in closer than I'd like. 7-3 in the last 10. Only way I see Milwaukee falling apart is if they believe contending in the NL Central doesn't mean contending for a World Series and get some offer at the deadline that knocks them off their feet for Corbin Burnes like they did moving Josh Hader last year. He's pitching like a guy that has zero desire to be there and wants more money than they can afford.Reds/Brewers will probably swap places several times in the coming weeks. In response.Definite needs from the weekend....
1. This one will remain on top until probably forever, given the Reds inept management....Bell needs to be fired immediately. His decisions, lineups, etc... are just plain dipshit stupid. Period.
2. 2-3 SP's are needed immediately....the Ashcraft experiment is over. Done. Finished. He sucks. Period. India, Newman, Senzel....all are expendable for a quality SP.
3. Votto needs to hit 4th w/ EDC either 5th or moved up to 2nd.
4. Find a catcher and stick with him....drawing a name each game from the hat of the 3 available is asinine. You don't need to carry 3 anyway.
Unfortunately a rent-a-pitcher might be a necessity if they can get one without giving up the farm. I agree with building from within but that’s starting to get pretty thin and calling up guys before they’re ready could hurt their development. Just need a semi-reliable innings eater. If they can get somebody who can go 6 innings, even if he’s giving up 4-5 runs per game, the Offense can overcome that pretty regularly.100% agree, stay with the plan that has worked so far and there is help within the organization if everyone just stays patient. A rebuilding season being done the right way this year.
Have the new rules hurt pitching and contributed to injuries? The pitch timer alone has caused a lot of pitchers to go at a much faster pace than they’re used to. Seems that could contribute to arm fatigue and other injuries. This is the world as we know it now. Yo-yo, up and down and it's going to be this way for awhile. Everybody, EVERYBODY, is in the same boat. I'm 76 years old, have been a baseball fan my whole life, have seen too many games to count....don't know if I've ever seen pitching as poor as it is now. Guess it's a cycle we're in but I've seen nothing to indicate it will end soon.
Problem is, many teams are hurting to fill out their rotation due to injuries. Hell even the Yankees haven't had Frankie Montas or Carlos Rodon throw 1 pitch this year. Every team will not want to be part with any prospect of value for a marginal 4-5 rental and will find themselves in a bidding war with a team who will pay up for starters like Trevor Williams. It is a fine line. Hope nothing else happens to anyone left on this roster now so they can stay the course. Would love nothing more than to finish this year with Greene, get Ashcraft on track and Lodolo healthy, straightened out, Williamson & Phillips. Might have to consider leaping all the way to AA for Richardson like the Reds did a few years back plucking Castillo right out of AA.Unfortunately a rent-a-pitcher might be a necessity if they can get one without giving up the farm. 1. Firing Bell now accomplishes nothing and would guarantee a tail spin on this season letting the manager go. Who would likely take over the rest of the way, Benavides? I give Bell credit for having this young bunch with the rotation gutted on top of the division even by the slightest of margins. The time for that talk would have been after losing 100 games last year for a fresh start but that is water under the bridge now.In response.
1. I agree, but they’re in contention right now do he’ll probably get a 3 year extension….Sigh.
2. I don’t think Ashcraft is done, but sumpin ain’t right with him. I don’t think India should be in any sort of trade talks until the off season. He’s too vital to the clubhouse, but I get that he would get the biggest return of all of them. Newman, Senzel, maybe Maile, would even go so far as to say Friedl, Fraley or Benson might be a decent bargaining chip.
3. I keep wishing we would see EDLC come up after McClain in the 3 hole. But that’s just because I’m used to seeing McClain raking in the 2 spot. McClain might be better served in the 3 hole.
4. Yeah one of the catchers needs to be moved for a SP. keeping three is ridiculous.
Reds should find a team desperate for a catcher and see if they can move one for the innings eater straight up if they will bite. If so, not losing any prospects in a swap like that. Maybe throw in someone like Callihan if necessary who is unlikely to reach the majors as a Red with the logjam ahead of him. Remember how desperate the Reds were down the stretch last year for a competent catcher? Casali was moved at the deadline last year from SF to SEA. Maile & Casali both may be back ups but an experienced catcher is an asset. May as well see if the Reds can improve their team moving one for a position of need.1. 2. Yeah, still early but has a lot to improve on for sure to rebound to his early April form and 1st part of 2022. Ashcraft has thrown a grand total of 174 innings in his career, deserves to finish this season out to see if he can get things figured out. If not, 2024 it's shit or get off the pot as far as results are concerned with multiple of the organization's top SP prospects coming. India trade talk should not be considered until the offseason or at least whenever they feel Marte is ready to contribute everyday in Cincinnati.
3. I completely agree with you here. Side note, Reds appear to be filling the rotation spot with Alec Mills who has some experience as a starter with the Cubs.
4. Especially with Robinson down in AAA makes a catcher expendable. Maile should be kept on the roster. I get Casali is experienced but Maile is just as much. Maile has caught all of Andrew Abbott's game and it is an underrated value to an organization when a catcher/pitcher build trust like that so early with the success they have. For 2023, if the Reds make the postseason and Stephenson is not behind the dish Maile has come through more than once with the bat this year. Also, understand neither have great career numbers offensively but only concerned about the production of this season.

Trade talks in limbo, Alec Mills in the house for Cincinnati Reds beleaguered rotation
The Cincinnati Reds' dismal and depleted starting rotation likely won't get Hunter Greene back or help from the outside anytime soon.www.cincinnati.com
The Cincinnati Reds won’t need to dig deep to find a fifth starter again until Tuesday in Washington.
But don’t count on general manager Nick Krall landing one in a trade by then despite talks with “every team” in baseball in recent weeks.
And forget about Hunter Greene returning from that hip-back-soreness injury anytime soon, much less by Tuesday. He’s headed to Arizona to start a core program, followed by a throwing program the team expects to take a total of four to six weeks.
In other words, Greene’s return figures to land in August, around the same timeline for Nick Lodolo’s anticipated return from the stress reaction in his left leg.
No trades imminent for Cincinnati Reds
Unless Krall finds some different answers during some of those conversations he’s having with other execs, the Reds are in for a rocky ride for the next month or so given a pitching deficit dire enough to prompt a 13th pitching callup in 19 days Tuesday in what has become a Louisville-Cincinnati commuter shuttle of arms to patch gaping holes.
"You have the posturing portion of things right now, and we’re trying to figure out where people are and what they want to do,” Krall said of recent trade talks. “And you’ve got some teams, ‘are you in or out of it?’ And they’re trying to wait as well.”
Some of the asks from other team have been too steep with more than a month to go before the Aug. 1 trade deadline.
“Right now the conversations are in places that we are not – where we don’t want to go,” he said. “And we’re trying to figure out if there are other matches out there for different players.”
Weaver just isn't the answer. Only reason he is here is because he is healthy. No other reason. Could have afforded a little better SP for the price of Wil Myers & Weaver combined. $9.5 million between the 2 not to mention the obvious bad contracts holding the franchise down. Something has to give. This shit isn't sustainable. If they would have spent a little bit more money in the offseason and brought in a couple more reliable starters they wouldn't be in this mess right now. But that's another discussion.
Remember the year Steve Carlton won 27 games for the Phillies and the Phillies won 59 games total on the year? Think it was early '70s.Abbott is Fernando Valenzuela on this staff right now. Holy hell!
I had to read the other post to believe the stoopidity and I'm still on the fence about Bell. Nothing has been won just yet but that move accomplishes nothing and in no way improves the pitching staff. I stopped reading after that beauty.1. Not exactly but I seem to recall how bad they were and Carlton being their lone all-star possibly until Mike Schmidt or Greg Luzinski.Remember the year Steve Carlton won 27 games for the Phillies and the Phillies won 59 games total on the year? Think it was early '70s.
I agree he must win something here first before crowning him and advancing past the 1st postseason round would be a huge step forward. Certainly don't hang a banner for that as we all want to see this team win the World Series. Firing him at this point as suggested earlier while leading the division almost at July with these injuries would most assuredly have the rest of the baseball world mocking Cincinnati for such a move right now.I had to read the other post to believe the stoopidity and I'm still on the fence about Bell. Helluva series win by this team. Didn't come easy against the 4th best team in all of MLB on the road. The resiliency in this team to keep fighting is incredible especially the rotation as injury plagued as it is.David Bell and his video people have gone 3-0 this game with challenges. Huge stat that you'll never see in the box score. Reds win in extras 11-7!
