Maybe instead of always playing the matchups with righties vs lefties in the case of Senzel who is more times than not going to screw it all up, ride the guys like Benson & Fraley who have helped get the Reds to this point and start trusting them. Eventually they will get to the bullpen and maybe don't have to wait until the bottom of the 9th for Fraley & Benson to make their impact on the game. It's not like Shuster is Clayton Kershaw out there on the mound.

True. Gave Benson the Barrero treatment the past couple of games. Benson. Needs. To. Play. Sunday needs to have Benson, Freidl, Fraley in the OF, Votto at DH, Steer at 1B(I got the Braves feed where I live. Their talking heads thought Votto was slow to react to d'Arnaud's hit in the 9th). But at any rate, the Reds pitching staff are seriously up against a rock and a hard place moving ahead.

Wasn't pretty but no choice right now but to keep rolling Stoudt out there with this pitching staff in shambles outside of Abbott. Stoudt's durability concerns me long term and may be better off in the bullpen. Doesn't go deep in games for Louisville too often either. Reds hung in there to the end in back to back games but brought down to earth some these past 2 games. Desperately need SP depth, go get Chapman in the bullpen to save these relievers for the stretch run. Diaz got some rest but not in the way we had hoped. It's time to move on from him. Too many players in the pipeline have passed him up. I'm tired of the "it's too early to give up on him bit" Yeah, he's only 25, but the guys actually producing and chasing his heels are even younger and obviously more hungry at this point. Not sure what they can get for Barrero, he'd probably have to be part of a package trade deal, but he needs a fresh start somewhere else.

4. Find a catcher and stick with him....drawing a name each game from the hat of the 3 available is asinine. You don't need to carry 3 anyway.

Phillips could end up in Cincy by season's end. I'm afraid this past weekend's games will be the norm until the Reds SP rotation calms down. Hopefully Phillips catches on like Abbott did and join this team in time to be eligible for the postseason roster if the Reds should get to that point. Lyon Richardson should be called up soon too. 2.09 ERA in 14 starts.
Don't think now is the time for one of those Rent-a-Pitcher trades that'll cost prospects. I'd rather promote from within to see what you have, hopefully get Lodolo/Greene back for an August run and prepare for a highly active off-season. July may be ugly at times.
100% agree, stay with the plan that has worked so far and there is help within the organization if everyone just stays patient. A rebuilding season being done the right way this year.
I like what the Reds have done with their new hitting instructors. That and the approach is a welcome change. Of course, having mega-talents like McLain/EDLC/Steer/Fraley helps! I'm a HR hitter/power guy. Makes no sense to have a tiny ballpark and a team of singles hitters like Senzel.
Question for me is all these pitching staff injuries. Is it just bad luck or do the Reds have strength/conditioning issues? Don't know what it is, something's not right.
Agree with the hitting instructors getting Zinter out of the way was a huge plus. McKeithan is miles ahead and what he did with Brandon Drury last year and many of the hitters this year is incredible so far. Memory is fuzzy so I don't 2020 and before off the top of my head. However, 3 years in a row from 2021-23 this team has suffered significant injuries whether it be in 2021 Sonny Gray, Wade Miley, Winker & Castellanos, last year many of the players hurt including the "Big 3" in the rotation, India, Votto & Stephenson among others and the rotation torn apart this year. I know every team suffers injuries, freak accidents happen and some guys are just injury prone but this is a discussion we had multiple times last year. Might be time to shake things up and bring in some new blood on the staff.
This is the world as we know it now. Yo-yo, up and down and it's going to be this way for awhile. Everybody, EVERYBODY, is in the same boat. I'm 76 years old, have been a baseball fan my whole life, have seen too many games to count....don't know if I've ever seen pitching as poor as it is now. Guess it's a cycle we're in but I've seen nothing to indicate it will end soon.
Wonder if this means Hunter Greene will be back sooner off the IL since Stoudt was sent back to the Bats? Saw the article that stated he could be sidelined until August but the CBS injury report says he could come off by July 3rd. In any event, by mid-July they are expecting Justin Dunn to rejoin the team. Have no faith in him with his injury history and think he is best fit as a reliever but it would be naive to believe this organization won't try to start him again. Especially with the rotation as beat up as it has been.
Reds should not overpay for anyone but may be necessary to go get a cheap innings eater just to save everyone else from being overworked risking them to additional injuries. The bullpen is being taxed and it's the last week of June. Still 3 months to go. Still not opposed to taking a flyer on Mad Bum to eat some innings and mentor these young starters. Wouldn't be losing any prospects in a FA signing like you would in a trade. The Twins just made a similar move picking up Dallas Keuchel.
Best case scenario that can happen to this team is for Greene, Lodolo & Ashcraft to get healthy, the latter 2 bounce back sooner than later, Abbott stay productive, Williamson be serviceable and get Connor Phillips up here if he progresses in Louisville like Abbott did. Definitely need to consider the 23-year old Lyon Richardson to start fast tracking him now as good as he has been this year.

It's most definitely the time if you want to win. This isn't college...you play each year to win NOW. There is no guarantee the "prospects" will amount to anything. Reds have 3 SP at best...and that is even debatable. Given the inept managerial decisions from Bell, that puts the team at an even worse disadvantage.
1st start back does not make one back at full strength, especially for a pitcher with a combined number of starts less than an entire season but lets just go ahead and shit can him while we're at it. By the way, most of what you said earlier today was completely idiotic.
