Reds

Helluva comeback win, 2-1. Diaz finishes them off with the save. Cessa vs Seth Lugo tomorrow.

India go-ahead single top of the 10th

Redlegs 2-1 in 10. Fraley and India come thru late.
Have to give credit to not only India & Fraley but Friedl too in his return to the lineup. Responded with 3 hits last night and was the tying run that Fraley drove in. Again proving his worth as a hitter in the lineup and last night showed as much a player of the game as anyone. Ashcraft 6 strong innings of 1 run baseball and the bullpen bouncing back too.

Beginning to believe that the 2023 Reds are not completely pathetic, just merely a bad team . . . which is a step in the right direction, IMO.

GD, are the Rays really this good or will they fizzle out in June/July?

They aren't a good team, but they are scrappy and have some fight in them. If they could manage to get EDLC, McClain and CES up here sooner rather than later, they might be able to make a little noise.

I guess the injury was one reason, but the way CES has been raking, it seems they could have brought him up and spot started him at 1B while using him as a DH other days. He could have even filled in for Steer at 3B when he was out for a bit. Everything about him says he's MLB ready.

Improbable win especially after starting Top One with runners on second/third, no outs, three, four, five hitters coming up and failing to score. But they pitched well, SD blew chances and Reds hung tough. Day game Wed with chance to win series, off Thursday and home series vs a very poor White Sox team Fri. Do they FINALLY bring up some prospects this weekend?

So if the All-Star team was to be named today, who are (is) the Reds Representative(s)?
Ashcraft has to get consideration as a Pitcher. India is about the only other one I think is worthy of a nod at this point. Nobody else seems to be able to put anything together lasting more than a few games.

Ashcraft, Greene, India or Diaz as a reliever for the All-Star team should be the ones getting consideration.

Ashcraft/Diaz would be my guess but a lot of ball to be played between now and then.
It's still early but a player like Fraley could play his way into the conversation. I thought for certain Drury was going to be the Reds representative last year but in the end it was Luis Castillo.

Reds done in by a rookie batting 9th, hitting .154 coming into the game with 2 hits, 0 XBH and 0 RBI. Today Brett Sullivan was 2/4 with a double, a homer and 4 RBI. Reds bullpen was no better than Cessa who let the leadoff man reach base every inning he pitched.

Really have to feel for Cessa. He's paying for an inept FO that has this bizarre notion that the guy is a ML starting pitcher. Cessa will never be more than a mid-game set up man...and that's OK if used correctly. Fat chance. At least Cincy still has Weaver. Day off today then a terrible White Sox team this weekend. Any chance Abbott, McClain, CES make the drive to Bats North?

Fat chance on any of those. They'll bring Benson back before any of them because, well.. read my signature.

Don't think so

The Reds young studs stayed hot tonight in the Bats 12 to 10 win.
McClain 4-5 4 rbi now hitting .324
EDC 2-5 now hitting .232 after starting 1-22
CES 3-5 5 rbi 3 HRs (7) now hitting .432

All the more reason to pull the plug on the Newman, Barrero experiment and let a rebuilding year be just that and CES learn on the job at 1B plus DH at-bats too. 1 error this season at 1B since coming back. I guess keep one of Newman & Barrero so they aren't caught with their pants down lacking depth. Probably go Jose since he can be used in the outfield but his days as a starter need to be numbered. Sick and tired of this lineup littered with .220 hitters. Time more of them get a fire lit under their ass and feel the heat like Senzel has recently and respond to it. Friedl learned this last year after the demotion and came back as a solid hitter in the lineup.

As far as Cessa, if Abbott has a couple more good starts in AAA time to call him up. Unfortunately Stoudt has struggled since going back to Louisville, Williamson has played himself out of the picture for 2023 at this point. Not sure how much more of Luke Weaver I can stomach. Notice the 1st place Rays take Chase Anderson from us and immediately put him on the MLB roster. Hoffman back in MLB with the Phillies. Robinson still hitting over .400 in Louisville. After last season I'm hesitant to say ditch any competent catcher but if it makes room for a deserving prospect to help the Reds win games then consider everything.

Keeping CES buried on the farm shows how incompetent the Reds FO is. They aren't interested in "build" but instead in the next group of has-beens. Maybe they'll trade him for a 35 year old journeyman outfielder.

CES just picking up where he left off in Spring Training. The Injury didn't set him back at all. His bat needs to be in the Reds lineup yesterday. DH him and platoon him at First. Let him learn on the job. He has the makings of a career .300+, 35-40 HR guy.

Most of spring training and now the almost couple of weeks back from a minor injury and he's still raking. how much more of a sample size is needed?

Oh, and McClain hit for the cycle by the way.

That probably has to do with scheduled days off as anything. Cessa could be an effective one or two IP mid-game set up guy but the Reds, in typical Reds fashion, is trying to get him to do something he isn't capable of doing.

Something else typical of Reds FO....despite playing in a tiny hitter's park they've put together a team of singles hitters while letting their young power hitters rot on the vine. SMH.

Yes, that's what the article said using the days off to their advantage.

Why not learn from last year's mistakes and skip a start now for the Big 3? Going to have to eventually.

Disappointing outing by Hunter Greene. Give him a three nothing lead and he could not hold it.

Bad loss for the Reds. Your ace pitcher on the mound, give him a three to nothing and 4-3 leads, he can't hold it,couple of bad base running blunders and you lose to the lowly White Sox five to four. Reds can't get out of their own way.

Last week was likely nothing but fool's gold.
Only if you bought into them being legit after a little bit of luck vs Texas and Oakland being the worst team in baseball. This season is going about as expected. As far as the young pitching and the bullpen will take them. Scored enough that a decent start should have been a win but this team is going to have games like this all year.

The young pitching with Greene giving up 5 runs didn't win them anything tonight. This team just is not built to win yet and still a couple years off at least. Big 3 will have their bad starts from time to time but outside of them, the bullpen, India & Friedl, production everywhere else has been hit or miss. Senzel, Fraley, Stephenson & Steer have had their moments. Other than Senzel right now playing above his career numbers, still expect more from the other 3 than what they've given so far. The rest of the lineup does not impress me at all.

Need to seriously consider promoting TJ Hopkins among all of the names that routinely get mentioned to call up. He's surpassed McGarry & Benson IMO. Plays CF and hitting .330 with 5 HRs & 15 RBIs. 26 years old. Not sure what more they are waiting on with him. I believe we've seen the ceiling with Fairchild. Ramos has came back down to earth over the last week after his hot start and the league have time to scout him.

Time is quickly approaching that Reds have to make decisions about players, there's not enough room for everybody. My confidence in the FO to pull this off is low.

In the mean time, Greene/Lodolo need to step it up.

My nominee for most disappointing player in the first six weeks of the season has to go to Tyler Stephenson. I expected much more.

Shoulder surgery has zapped him of his power but he looks really uncomfortable at bat. Maybe he's just slow to adjust and will eventually come around.
