Reds

So Reds basically stand pat. Interesting.
kinda figured they would. I think they're just banking on most of the injured guys, McClain, CES, etc. coming back. in the spring and next season being what they hoped this one would be, but we all know how that goes. Next year it will be a whole other slew of injuries that take them out of contention. I honestly don't know what the deal is, the Reds seem to annually be the most injured team in all of baseball.

Don't know about the Reds being "most injured", lots of teams battling injuries but Reds have very narrow margin because FO won't stockpile team with MLB players, depending on 4A/3A players instead. Failure to take advantage of a strong outfield class in the just concluded trading period and doing nothing to build Reds OF was criminal. But the owner's son got promoted so all's well.

I know lots of teams battle injuries, but it seems like a chronic issue with the reds. Like year to year to year. I cant remember the last time they fielded their intended opening day starting lineup in full with all members healthy.

Time to move him up so he can get experience at AAA and have a shot to make the rotation out of Spring Training. When you choose to build teams with young rosters and trade veterans, then you need to maximize these small windows to compete in and take a chance on a blue chip prospect like Rhett Lowder.

Snell cruising with a no-hitter through 6.

Demoted Rece Hinds for this putrid performance by the Reds offense. Bell put a recently DFA'd Ty France in the cleanup spot with his horrendous .221 batting average which is sadly on par with about everyone on the team except India & EDLC on the season. This team will continue to be a joke as long as the dunce David Bell is leading the charge and they don't go get some offense in this bandbox of a ballpark.

What a shit joke. No-hit in your home ballpark on 114 pitches by Snell!!!

Bell and Joel McKeithan need to be relieved of their duties immediately. Sick and tired of an ownership group that doesn't give a damn about winning along with the incompetence from management in the dugout. Golden Boy Krall needs to fall on the sword for the lack of depth throughout this entire roster and just sits on all of the prospects in the minors without trying to improve the team this season.

9th time the Reds have been shutout with just under 2 months of baseball left to go. Unreal.

McLain with another rib injury right before he was supposed to start a rehab assignment. You can't make this shit up. Clean house from the FO all the way down to the training staff in the dugout. They all have failed this team one way or another. There is absolutely no way this organization can go into 2025 with the same staff intact, let alone finish the year out but that would be asking too much of this group to do anything that makes sense.

Bell is probably the only manager in MLB who sits a player after they hit 2 home runs the prior day.

KKKKKruz is now 5 for his last 31. He has 1 HR and 2 RBI in his last 54 AB's, with 4 base running gaffe's in the last week.

The Reds just S U C K. It's what they do. And next year we'll watch them praise God on every solo homer while EDLC runs into one out after another.

First time up tonight line drive into the stands in right for his 19th home run. But I agree with you about Bell.

Yeah they really do need to send him down. He's pitiful. He's only got four extra base hits tonight, two doubles and two home runs. Oh and he's still only 22 years old.

Reds bringing back Tucker Barnhart.
He will be in the minors and not convinced he ever makes it up to Cincinnati. Minor League season rapidly ending. Out of the game for a few weeks and needs to get back into the rhythm of things again. Bat just as suspect as ever though that was never the reason he was here in the first place. Not any worse than what Luke Maile or Eric Yang give you on offense, though as long as Luke is around there isn't much of a reason to carry 3 catchers. Keep rolling Stephenson out there. Like what I am seeing lately.

I like Barnhart, but he really isn’t what the Reds need.

Not necessarily. I wanted Tucker Barnhart back in this organization during the garbage 2022 100 loss season when they fielded 7 catchers and 6 of them were all minor league scrubs. If nothing more than mentoring young pitchers/catchers in Louisville as a veteran backstop, so be it. Sign him to another minor league deal in the offseason and be this team's Corky Miller for the Bats. He is past his prime being a starting gold glove catcher, but the knowledge of the game is something that can be shared with other young players coming up. The Reds catching prospects who are even talented enough for this level are at least a couple of years out still. This time of year GM's are dumpster diving off the waiver wire anyways once the trade deadline passes.

Balls will bounce really hard/high off that concrete, won't they?
The configuration is going to be odd, that's for sure. I looked up what was used for the college football games in the infield they used in the past, a 3D3 Astro Turf surface. The baseball field configuration as narrow as that is going to be the two pit roads, infield care center in the garage area is what gets me. Reds might have actually found one venue smaller than GABP haha.

I looked at the ESPN stats, and he has the highest WAR of all position players on the team, and it's not even close. I realize that WAR can be considered a made up Stat, so I then investigated de la Cruz underlying stats, and, if anything, it seems his WAR might be understated.

Why do you only notice it when he's in a 5 for 31 slump, but not when he's something around 12 for 31, with 4 home runs or whatever he does when he's hot?

Highest paid Red with a .229 average grounds out with the bases loaded to end the game. For a veteran with his experience, he has been such a disappointment. Espinal playing LF though is what I would like to see more of from out athletic infield prospects in the organization and get that experience now. In the future, the Reds can field their best lineup of hitters.

EDLC leads majors in SBs
5th in NL in runs scored despite the Reds pitiful offense
10th in NL in HRs
3rd in triples with 7

Yep, he is horrible. :p:p

EDLC with his second straight 4 hit game tonight. Now hitting .268 and slugging .505. He is getting better and better.
He must read these forums and take Coles constant criticisms to heart. Still not sure what Coles beef is to the point he has to rail on the kid with every single post he makes and point out every single slump or mistake.

EDLC is 22, playing every day and has proven to be durable despite throwing his body around like he does on the bases and in the field sometimes. Is he streaky? of course he is, he's still learning how to be more consistent. People forget Joey Votto wasn't the best defensive 1B when he first came up, but he developed into a very solid defender. EDLC's base running mistakes are typically a result of his aggressiveness and that aggressiveness is what has him breaking records and leading the league in SB's. Any time he is on base, he is a threat and that's something that's kept this team in games at times. He's an exciting player despite his streakiness and occasional gaffes. those are things he will fix as he matures. but he is exactly where he belongs despite what Cole and his "i know more about baseball than all of you combined" attitude, might think.

It's a shame they don't really have anyone else who can reliably hit in the #2 slot, because he's being wasted considering his power and speed.

OK, I see your point now. KKKKKruz should head back to the minors. It’s abysmal that he’s only 9th in the MLB hitter power rankings now. Just awful.

https://www.mlb.com/reds/news/10th-hitter-power-rankings-of-2024

9. Elly De La Cruz, Reds
At age 22, we’re witnessing the rapid maturation of De La Cruz as an offensive force. While the strikeouts remain stubbornly high, the switch-hitter has authored one of MLB’s largest drops in chase rate, and one of its largest rises in barrel rate, from 2023 to '24. Since De La Cruz hit a rough patch in May and early June, he has slashed .326/.396/.640 with nine homers and 24 steals over his past 43 games.

Reds piss away an excellent start by Nick Martinez, 7 scoreless innings with 1 hit. Back to back nights out hitting the Brewers and lose. Shutout for the 10th time this season.

Reds aren't dead but they're on life support. Time's slipping away.

Seriously? They have been dead since day 1 w/ this group, and the most incompetent mgr in MLB.

All of the screaming by Sadak and the clueless fans over Elly's 2 game hit streak has turned into crickets....3 for his last 17 w/ a pathetic 11 K's.

Keep on preaching brother. Every player goes through ups and downs. Bottom line the season he has had to this point put him on the National League All-Star team. He's hitting .265, slugging percentage close to .500, leads the league in steals, close to the top in runs. De La Cruz is the only player since 1900 to record 80 extra-base hits, 80 stolen bases and 80 walks over his first 200 MLB games. You are starting to sound kind of dumb doing this every time he goes on a little skid. But if that's what you're aiming for keep on doing it. And the poster above was talking about the wild card playoff spot. Mathematically they are not out of it. Realistically they're probably not going to get it done and that's what he was talking about. But you probably knew that anyway before I posted it.

Assume someone has the statistic, but would be curious where EDLC ranks in steals per times on first base with an open second base. I'd think it would be way up there.

Typical '24 Reds series against a good team this weekend: lose big, lose tight, finally win, all while scoring 2 runs/game.

How would you steal a second base that isn't open?

The end of the MILB season is rapidly approaching and the Reds have stuck their heads in the sand when it comes to promoting Rhett Lowder to Louisville. A few starts in AAA now, some Winter Ball and a great spring training could have him ready for Cincinnati next season. Think this organization gives a damn? Think again. It will be 2026 at the rate they are moving. Already planning to do the same with Chase Burns it seems.
