Reds

Between Sadak's screaming, and this team being the cockiest dismal excuse for a team in MLB, one would think they are leading their division by 10 games.

Losing those 2 is pointless....getting rid of 2 retreads for someone else's retreads?
It's called a salary dump. Montas is owed $20 million next year and $12 million for Martinez so I really don't give a damn who they offload them onto so long as the Reds move them out of here.

Will eat my previous words. Hunter Greene is now turning into the top pitcher that we all hoped for several years ago

Time to punt the season, get right for 2025 by developing younger players and find a trade partner for Montas so they don't have to pick up the $20 million option next year. He needs a good start in Atlanta to showcase his abilities before the deadline. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world in a lost season to finish the year rounding out the rotation with Aguiar, let Richardson be a rubber arm/swingman out of the bullpen along with Martinez to get spot starts and eat multiple innings when necessary. The Reds are going nowhere. nothing to lose here. Greene, Abbott, Lodolo, Spiers & Aguiar should be the 5-man rotation and get ahead on next year.

Krall has to be fired in addition to Bell. Nick started out in Cincinnati back in 2003 overseeing the organization's advance scouting preparation and we see how far that has gotten the Reds since then. As much of the problem as anyone. He has plenty of prospect capital at his disposal to fix this mess and has proven that he is unwilling to do what it takes to stop the bleeding. Years now he has gone into the season without a balanced roster. It is ironic the one position we have a shit ton of depth in the infield gets wiped out and razor thing in the outfield. Players have to take ownership for piss poor play, but the Bell & Krall apologists are delusional anything to deflect blame from the one's in charge making sure this team is in a winning position.
With the Richardson callup where Martinez would be the long man out of the bullpen, it is clear they are going to move on from one if not both Martinez & Montas at this point. They may just be "retreads" but pitching this time is of year is a luxury other teams will overpay for a rubber arm out of the bullpen and be a 5th starter. Don't believe me, just look at the return the Reds got for Mahle who I think was overrated. Steer and CES. The Reds got 2 really good prospects with Jose Acuna & Hector Rodriguez for Phillip Diehl & Tyler Naquin. Bottom line, they ditch the contracts or replinish with some prospects for pitchers not helping this team win in 2024 nor are they long term pieces of the future. I would even say the Reds should field offers on Alexis Diaz and fill holes on an under .500 roster with your All-Star closer.

Always happy to see the Reds a series especially against a team like Atlanta, but what a confusing team coming off the sweep to Washington. Face a good team like the Yankees and sweep them, swept by Detroit. Swept by Washington and take the series win against the Braves. Been that way all year.

Braves have been a major disappointment, playing right at .500 ball for the last 6 weeks or so. Look at their individual BAs, lots of guys just not getting it done, supposedly a top minor league system too. Example: Lose an All Star 2B, replacement hitting .130. Maybe they'll hold true for one more game.

They put up 4 runs on the All-Star Reynaldo Lopez who now has a microscopic 2.12 ERA. Have to give the Reds some credit there. Still the 4th best record in the NL and going on the road to win there is an accomplishment. 8 games above .500 without their best player Ronald Acuna.

TJ Friedl possibly coming off the IL Friday. Good series win over the Braves, though it should have no impact on what the Reds do at the deadline.

They have no leadership in the clubhouse, managerial or player, to keep everyone on the same page and even-keeled. They just win games because certain guys get hot, and lose becaue they all forget how to play. The hope is that by keeping guys around they start to gel more, but the window is always closing for the Reds.

No Acuna, Albies, Harris, Strider, Fried, and Olson can't hit his weight. The Braves as you saw them this week are a .500 team at best, same as the Reds. Nice wins, but don't act like they beat a great team.

Yeah, because the Reds were playing with a full deck too, right? Some of you all here go out of your way to diminish the Reds any chance you get. They handed the pitcher with the lowest ERA in the National League a loss Monday night and beat the top team for a Wild Card spot no matter how you want to dice it up. Just like you all saying the Reds only swept the Dodgers and Yankees because they 'overlooked' the Reds. You jump at any chance to mock Reds fans when they are happy over any accomplishments and show your true colors with the hard on you have for John Sadak doing his job to pump this team up. No one here said they beat the World Series favorite team, but don't undersell what they did Monday night handing Lopez a loss. 21 hits in 2 games against their pitching is deserving enough of praise. It is one thing to be critical when it is warranted after a sweep to a team like Detroit or Washington, but some of you all just live in misery and I think want to see the Reds lose just to have something to bitch about. Especially since your Elly De La Cruz hopes for his demise have blown up in your face.

Blah, blah , blah....no one, I repeat, no one, knows baseball more than I do. I have been a Reds fan since 72, and have seen, and endured, much more than you have. It is painful to watch them being dealt BS by their management, and is even more so watching the homer fans make excuses for them who are clueless about the game outside what baseball reference tells them.

Elly....nice young man w/ a lot of gifts, but has a ton of work to do. A ton. At this stage, the hype isn't warranted given how he has been prone to being a complete shitshow of a player more often than not. Time will tell but he isn't the second coming....not even close, and that is hard for the fans to realize as they get caught up in the highlight reels vs. the overall play...Big Picture.

Original response from you, find some new material. This same tired old ass line about knowing so much more than everyone and being way out of their league is monotonous. I bet you shit a brick when Elly De La Cruz was named to the All-Star team. For a player with 7 months in the big leagues, he is rapidly improving and the scary part is he is just scratching the surface. It is a good thing the Reds did not option him to AAA earlier this season as you suggested. LMFAO

Yankees and Mariners showing serious interest in India. Seattle just pulled off a trade for Randy Arozarena.

It's really frustrating to see All Star type players in the trade market and know the Reds have ZERO chance of obtaining any of them.

Yeah...ok.

Who will make it to the bigs sooner? Burns or Lowder? Will the 2026 rotation be Greene, Abbott, Lodolo, Burns and Lowder?

One thing that struck me odd about Lowder was that after he was drafted, he didn't pitch competitively again until spring training that we knew of. Was he nursing something we weren't aware of? Sounds like they want to get Burns out to Arizona and eventually work him in somewhere to close out the minor league season and/or have him pitch winter ball.

Worried about trading with Seattle if the Reds do business with them again. They have already dealt a bunch of prospects between the Arozarena trade and the Yimi Garcia Blue Jays deal. 2 top outfielders, one already up with the Mariners Jonatan Clase and then Aidan Smith. I don't want anymore Levi Stoudt, Justin Dunn and a juiced Marte with inflated MILB numbers from their organization.

Damn, that rotation would be filthy if everyone stays healthy and reaches their potential. Have Spiers/Williamson in the bullpen as a swing man for spot starts and a long man.Should they gauge interest in pitching prospects like Floyd and Petty who could be close to joining MLB in a year or two with that rotation above in place? A top SS prospect and a college ready pitcher like Floyd would bring in a marquee player if the Reds front office would take a chance. Still have 2 incredibly talented 3B with Collier and Stewart who without a position change will block each other from playing everyday. Not to mention whatever return they getvfor players like India, Diaz etc if they do get traded.

I noticed many other pitchers too did who pitched in NCAA last year did take the ball and even made it out of rookie ball to A Ball who were drafted last year. Clearly put them ahead of the game to be ready for their debut this year. Thought I heard Jim Day say it was a choice that Lowder and the Reds decided to make. Pretty sure Andrew Abbott was the opposite in 2021 pitching for Virginia and got promoted to Daytona, in the futures game the next year and we know how fast he rose out of Chattanooga, Louisville to Cincinnati setting the minors on fire.

Also, TJ Friedl back tonight, Hinds optioned to Louisville and Connor Phillips sent back down to rookie ball.

Don’t understand the Hinds move. No one else they could option?

Should have outrighted Will Benson to Louisville and kept Hinds. Sincerely doubt anyone would claim a sub .200 outfielder on waivers. Thought Cincinnati should have left Hinds out there to develop.
The Reds did not need to make the trade for Austin Slater to crowd the outfield of nothing more than reserves beyond Friedl, Fraley and Steer if they knew a call-up for Hinds was to come soon after.

Reds piss away an excellent start by Hunter Greene pitching 7 scoreless innings. Tampa Bay had 3 errors and 3 hits. Cruz loads the bases, high throw by Wynns to Espinal at 3B with runners at second and third, later a wild pitch by Fernando giving up the tying run despite Rosario trying to gift him an out with the strikeout on the pitch. If that wasn't bad enough, Captain Hook finally makes a change to bring in another pitcher after the damage is done and it is Lucas Sims of all people. Walks a run in instead of using Sam Moll to face the LH Palacios. If David Bell would only play the LH/RH matchups that he does with his cute lineups when it comes to pitching substitutions, might actually win a damn game. This team will never be serious about winning until they shitcan Bell.

The offense is a total disaster. Just pathetic. Greene gives up two hits in seven Innings, turns it over to the bullpen and they promptly give it away. EDLC gets three more hits, steals four bases and they can still only muster one unearned run. Total joke.

Not sure how the purpose of this one but whatever. Another below .230 hitter with low power numbers is what they needed.

Can they get Joey Votto to come in as hitting coach. Surely he realizes his playing days are over by now right?

Hell, I would make Joey Votto the manager. Can't imagine him being any worse than David Bell. Votto is a brilliant baseball mind and this would be a step up IMO. I know Stephen Voigt is a catcher that is used to calling the game, but from the perspective of hiring recently retired players it would make sense whenever Votto does hang it up for good.

Montas to Milwaukee. Added another bullshit outfielder in Wiemer and a reliever with an up and down career with Junis.

Hopefully Slater out paves the way for Hinds to return. Overall I am not mad at the deadline after the way this season has gone with disappointment with a lot of it due to injuries. Finding a sucker to offload Montas' contract with a $20 million option next year is a huge plus for a pitcher with a 5.01 ERA, getting cash considerations regardless who is in the return is irrelevant for a team that sold at the deadline. Also, Lucas Sims was a good pitcher for most of his Reds career but lately every time he took the mound I cringed. His best days are behind him and now Boston can deal with his shakiness. You can live with Sims in your bullpen but he cannot be one of the setup pitchers in high leverage situations and expect to win big. Especially with a closer as volatile as Diaz.

Elly's attempted steal of 3rd last night was his third base running gaffe in the last couple of games. Your down 6-0 with 2 outs in just the 4th inning and getting to 3rd doesn't do anything. Friedl walked on the pitch and that would have been 2 runners on.

I know he has the green light but someone may want to help him w/ situational baseball fundamentals. Oh wait...that would require coaching from this team.
