Potentially bad news for Sarr

i think some of you guys are over-thinking this.

The reason the NBA is doing this seems quite simple and logical to me. The draft was moved from June to October, so it only makes sense that they'd also move the rest of the draft process forward to accommodate that. I mean, there's no need or reason to keep the old declaration deadline if the draft's not gonna happen until October, right?
Doesn't look like this is a done deal. From the ESPN article:

"The new deadline is pending the NBA finalizing an agreement with the players' union on system rule changes in the collective bargaining agreement related to the resumption of the 2019-20 season."

This was how Wake Forest handled the whole process with the Danny Manning firing. They waited 6 weeks after season ended. It was 24 hours after Manning sat down with Sarr to talk about staying and possibly becoming a 1st or 2nd round pick for 2021 draft. Then Manning was fired and Sarr had 24 hours to decide staying, transfer, or draft. This was all about this time when the NBA draft deadline was Sunday, April 26th not what deadline is now. Most of the experts like Greenberg and others have always said it's about the firing of the head coach and also how WF went about the firing of Manning. It has nothing to do with this second date for NBA. Draft deadline. It was about the 1st NBA Draft Date Deadline with Sarr. It is also about the firing of the Head Coach. It will be fine.

Don't you dare think things through logically. There's a few here that want to dance around in their underwear and play the "whoa is me, 1 player short again" song. They don't want to hear that stuff. They want any slight towards Cal that they can get.

Yeah, I know, but that is basically nullified by this, right?

I agree, that WAS a compelling argument for Sarr. The way Wake Forest handled it appeared like they tricked him and forced him to stay in college by waiting until the deadline to fire Manning. Thus, he never had a fair chance to decide whether to enter the draft after the firing.

BUT this news now kills that whole argument. Turns out he DOES have a fair chance, in fact he's got two more months to decide. All the time anyone should need.

I assume Sarr has been focusing on UK ... meaning he just lost 2 months of prep for the draft ... finding an agency, doing virtual interviews, getting his brand out there ... training the way draft prospects train. I wouldn't assume he is back in the draft just because of this.

I still think we have already seen multiple waivers granted that would greatly call into question a denial for Sarr.

I just wish the NCAA would be fair and logical.

It just makes sense to let the kids play.

The NCAA makes money off of the revenue these kids generate.

In general, the better the talent, the more people will watch in person or on TV, and the more revenue they will generate.

It makes no business sense for the NCAA to basically push a kid to the NBA or overseas that will help them generate revenue.

Plus they avoid bad press because almost nobody in the media is coming out and saying this kid (or any kid, for that matter) should sit.

He came out of nowhere yesterday and asked me if I had a hot wife that he could smash. I asked her what she thought about that and she said he was clearly some loser that couldn't get a hottie on his own. lol
Good Lord. Who does that?! Anyway, what thread was that in and is it still there?! [laughing]

I hope you’re right. I’m not nearly as positive as you are on this. I believe we’re screwed as far as Sarr being eligible here is concerned.
Relax. Kentucky fans always have a persecution complex. The NCAA will decide on the basis that existed when the petition was filed.

And the NCAA will need a Big year next year after canceling the tournament. They need Kentucky as a prestige program and the biggest draw to be as strong as possible. He’ll be cleared.

LOL if you are transferring in Covid you will get your waiver . There is almost no way Toppin , Sarr and every other college athlete don't get there waivers approved . It is odd how every other sports board I am on understand this except this board. I did laugh though as I read this at father's day lunch on my phone and I knew UK fans would be freaking out . Now make no mistake if Covid wasn't happening this would be realllllly hurt is waiver . But since the waivers and what they say this spring and summer don't really matter it won't . But I am sure people will be freaking out until the day he is granted his waiver . .

Good thing we’ve been keeping in contacts without Makur and Cisse hasn’t committed although those are probably both Hail Mary options. This team has the potential to be so good. I hope we have a season and have everyone available

There won't be a season. What's the difference. Have you seen all the quarantines in football. 30 at LSU. Close to the same at Clemson

not that I know anything but given the Corona and the coaching change, I think an argument could easily be made that regardless of when the draft is, we are living in extraordinary times that prevented Sarr from having the usual avenues on which decision making for the NBA or college are provided. He didn't have the same opportunities as a player from the previous year and has been impacted by that.
Buy this man a drink. Well done, sir.

No waiver was filed for Toppin! He actually was a redshirt year like his brother did!

You’re guaranteeing Sarr to U.K.? You? Please take it back, please.

Agree with an above poster - if you’ve transferred during the pandemic, you’re getting cleared. Just hope we get to have a season at this point.

And for years I keep not even knowing who the hell you are. Or caring enough to remember you.

I just google searched your username. “Cal is getting schooled”. “ Barnhart is the problem and we will always be a mediocre Football program while he is here” and much more. These are all threads started by you, not comments. Like I said earlier, congrats on being able to keep the charade going for so long.

So here is a hypothetical situation: what if there is no season in 20-21, but a vaccine is developed or it runs its course or whatever by next summer and then the world gets back to normal?

What will our team look like in 21-22.

Everyone on our squad retains their eligibility, if they want it.

Boston and Clarke will surely leave.

Sarr would have an interesting decision to make. He has said he won’t sit out at UK, but if they aren’t playing anywhere (no NBA or overseas) then maybe he sticks around.

So probably returning would be:

Mintz
Askew
Allen
Fletcher
Toppin
Brooks
Ware
Jackson
Sarr

We add Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Jaden Hardy most likely.

G Mintz/Askew
G Hardy/Allen
F Brooks/Fletcher
F Hatfield-Huntley/Toppin
F Sarr/Jackson/Ware

That’s a strong team. Basically trade Boston and Clarke for Hardy and Hatfield-Huntley, plus get Toppin and Sarr eligible without question.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely want this season and want to see Boston and Clarke in UK blue, but it is an interesting scenario to think about as we sit through this lengthy offseason that might not end in this calendar year.

Thoughts?

Maybe Im living under a rock, but It seems to me that the coach being fired should be enough reason for Saars being cleared or at least thats how it used to be done.

What I have read on ESPN and other sports networks is that the new deadline is pending NBA finalizing an agreement with the players’ union on system rule changes in the collective bargaining agreement. So, the new date in August is still pending on the NBA finalizing the agreement.

I still believe that the Sarr Paperwork presented to the NCAA on his Waiver was dealing with the April 26th Draft Deadline not the PENDING August 17th. Also, I believe that Olivier Sarr, Chaundee Brown, and the other Wake Forest players that have decided to transfer from Wake Forest was about the late Firing of former head coach Danny Manning. If you remember all the Experts like Greenberg, Jay Bilas, and others were discussing that Olivier Sarr should get his Waiver because of the Danny Manning firing and how Wake Forest handled the Manning firing. The season ended on March 10th for Wake Forest and if they were firing Danny Manning they could have done after the last game on March 10th. Wake Forest Athletics Department then waited another 6 weeks and fired Manning on April 25th. The way Wake Forest handled this was not right and that is why 7 or 8 of the Wake Forest Players were thinking on transferring from WF.

I believe if the NCAA looks at the paperwork which was for the the 1st NBA draft deadline on April 26th then Sarr will get his Waiver to play immediately. We also have to remember that the Transfer Waiver was also about the Danny Manning Firing and how that was handled by Wake Forest waiting 6 weeks after season had ended for WF. I still believe UK will be fine and Sarr gets his waiver. The only reason Sarr doesn't get the waiver is that he decides to put his name now in the 2020 NBA Draft list. I don't think anyone has said what Olivier Sarr has said about this this and since everything I have read this new NBA draft deadline is still pending for August.

Thoughts?

Soccer has already restarted in England and Germany. Unless there is a wave two resurgence, it seems very likely they will play BB in Europe this winter.

Any idea if those countries are testing like we are in the US? I know tons of people here are testing positive but are asymptomatic. I think if we only test sick people the numbers will stay low and sports will resume. But if all athletes keep getting tested, I think sports picking back up will be slim for a while.

Either way I’ve not been the same since March Madness got cancelled with our best FT shooting team of the Cal era and I need sports. I’m about to start watching pro foosball haha
