Point blank, too soft. His team is getting fkn robbed.
Bad loss. No dawgs on this team. Have to get a combination of experienced players and players that can put the team on their back. Can't guess every game on who will show up.
The constantly coming out each game seemingly unprepared and unengaged the first half, lies directly on the coaching staff's shoulders. Mark does make great adjustments at the half, but we just saw again that you can't rely on being a "second half team" to go anywhere. The guys are not running the offense they did early in the season, it's become a bunch of Cal ball "iso" junk, and opponent's are willing to let Brea and Garrison play hot potato while the defense covers the other three guys who don't want to move without the ball. Right now it's the only chink I see in Mark's armor. If he can get these guys on the same page both halves of a game, the end result will be a lot better.

I fully think he has his teams prepared to start the games, however you can lead a horse to water but can’t make them drink it.
I definitely would have gotten a T in the first half, maybe it would have fired up the team or we might have responded to it. When it’s this blatant, gotta let them know and you don’t have to cuss.

Then pull them away from the water, and let them stand in a stall (end of bench) without a trough. Play the guys who give you the most effort until their legs fall off, and then when the team loses because of it, maybe the guys sitting on the bench pouting will have a bulb come on.

Maybe a little bit but most of this board also said that the Refs hated Cal for yelling at them and that cost us calls. I really think Pope is fine and there are just officials that are going to rob us, comes with CBB, UK, and the SEC. NCAAT is usually better at least.
Perhaps too soft, but he can't be like Cal. Cal is why we are where are today. Refs are still paying vengeance to the Kentucky fanbase for the Rooferee threats. That happened because of Cal's pissy attitude towards the refs (and our crazy fans). These refs are a brotherhood and will never let that one go away until the generation of refs that were around are dead and long gone.
What he needs to do is find middle ground. Complain, but don't give in, and don't be a disrespectful Calipari or Hurley.
Just do not have the players to compete in physical games. Our strategy is three point shooting but we are throwing up brick after brick. The only real three point threats are Brea and Noel who never plays. Jaxson Robinson is the most disappointing as a shooter. We miss Kerr for sure.
He did exactly what he should've done. There won't be a single person with any rationale that believes that game wasnt officiated criminally. They will see it BECAUSE he kept his sht together and didn't get teed and tossed.
The league approved of the bullsht, but EVERYONE not an idiot had their eyes opened to how corrupt the officiating is in this conference.
If you want the officiating to improve, don't watch the next week or two of SEC games and let the SEC office know about it. Listen to the Cats on the radio. See what happens when their viewership drops off a cliff. Fck their wallets. It's the only thing they care about.

The squad is soft. Plain and simple Did they get a hole whistle? Sure. But the refs didn’t cost us the game (lost by 13 btw). We didn’t show up ready to play. We had no energy. We couldn’t match Georgia's physically. Oh, and we didn’t make plays and we didn’t make shots. JR and AW were total no shows and when it became apparent that they were not having a good night they both pouted and showed bad body language.
No excuses. This is Kentucky, be tough and play better. We deserved this loss.
He needs to get this team defense to pressure and trap more, or mix in a zone, playing man to man is leading to 40 FT per game in SEC play

If anyone without an alcohol addled brain watched this game and didn't think the refs made a 30 point difference in the outcome for Georgia, then there is something else seriously wrong with their reasoning.
In the 2nd half alone there were 2 travels, at least 7 illegal screens, 5+ no call defensive fouls in the paint, and probably at least 3 technicals away from the ball ALL not called against Georgia that should've been, since some of the same foul calls were made against UK at their end of the court for less contact. That's 17 possessions taken away from Kentucky and scoring opportunities/points allowed for UGA on a lot of them.
I know math is hard, but if UK only hits 30% total of those 17 possessions they score 10+ points, while Georgia if shooting 40% would be removing 13+ points because of the 17 lost possessions. That's conservatively more than 23 points difference just in the 2nd half alone.
The fouling discrepancy is massive and disruptive to all aspects of the game, not to mention the CONSTANT stoppages for bullsht reviews that served no purpose.

The refs were bad but They didn't shoot 28% from 3, nor did the shoot 37 percent from field. They also didn't get outrebounded, and out hustled. They didn't have a measly 8 assists or 10 turnovers. UGA out performed us in every meaningful statistic. That's why we lost the game.
Never gonna happen. Refs have been putting the screw to UK since the days of Rupp. Unless you are a great team from the NE or led by Self or a former Daggum or Rat you will get crap calls
Do officials rebound the basketball? An offensive rebound leads to more fouls! That's a fact. We were lucky against Florida because we shot a high percentage of 3's not so much tonight.

I posted this in another thread but in the final 3 minutes of the last 2 games when UF was fouling to stop the clock and the UGA game when the refs seemed to be making up for lost time to make the box score look better we shot 18 free throws to the opponents 10. The rest of the time for those 2 games the free throw disparity is 63-25 in favor of Florida and UGA. Is it a coincidence that their coaches whined and complained the entire game and Pope never seems to say anything to the refs and they got all the calls? Oh and in both games the opponents took a greater percentage of 3 point shots which normally indicates that they aren't going to the basket as much and shouldn't shoot almost 3 times as many free throws.
I thought he would be a guy who would mix in a lot of different defenses. Eventually, think he will but so far in season one haven’t seen it consistent enough. What’s the harm in throwing different defensive looks at the opponents? We don’t rebound well in the first place and we are making every team look 15-20 points better offensively than they really are.
Agreed. I do think these guys are not prepared for how physical the SEC is in general.
Coach Pope needs to step up some in his aggression imo. This league hates UK with a passion. He knows this first hand. Road games cannot be played the same.
