Later in his career, Concepcion worked with Tony Perez and perfected the one-bounce throw to first base. Concepcion was the first shortstop to use this method to take advantage of the speedy artificial turf at Riverfront Stadium and other parks in the National League.

Grooming Barry Larkin as his successor, [Concepcion] became a dependable handyman at all four infield positions. He was replaced by Larkin in 1986, only 44 games away from Larry Bowa's NL record for shortstops.

Would you vote for Concepcion? He was pretty reliable for most of two decades; his batting's definitely not great but it sure wasn't terrible; he was good on the basepaths; and he was a defensive powerhouse. And he was an essential part of the Big Red Machine, especially in the postseason, in which the Reds won four pennants and two World Series championships.

The 3 most populous metro areas in Kentucky are Louisville, Lexington, and Northern Kentucky. The closest MLB team to these areas, all located within 100 miles of each other, is the Reds.

I understand that. Basically that was a shot at the yahoos on here who think everyone from KY should root for the Cincy teams, when many of us live(d) no where near Cincy (there are parts of KY other than Louisville/Lexington/NoKY).

As a fan of The Big Red Machine teams, I would love for Dave Concepcion to make the Hall of Fame. His numbers are border line, but there's probably players in the Hall with less numbers than Concepcion has.

for several years in a row back in the big red machine era i would go to riverfront the first day ticket sales began and buy four front row aisle seats on the second level (green) for all double headers (3 or 4), plus a few random games. nowadays it would pinch my wallet to go to a single game and eat and drink a few beers
only been to gabp once. very nice but i’m just not as big a fan these days
