What difference will it make when you’re dead? You’ll return to non-existence. The same state you were in for the 13.7 billion years before you were born.
I think you answered that for yourself...it won't make a difference (hence your question "What difference will it make when you're dead"). Developing relationships, would inherently, make no difference. They would be pointless. Your dead, soon they will be dead, then their offspring. And so on and so forth. Utterly pointless.

Developing relationships, having pleasurable experiences and enjoying your family IS the meaning of life. That’s not pointless at all.

Of course the meaning ends with your last breath.

But wouldn't you want to make the most out of life is this is all we had? Saying it's all pointless, do you need Prozac or something?
I am not arguing against making the most out of your earthly life. Go for it.

The problem is what is the point of doing so once you die if God doesn't exist and you just fade to black? All the memories you created with your family that your cherish are gone forever. How bleak does that sound? Everything that you are trying to make the most out of won't matter dude. You will have no recollection of it. Sounds awful. What is the point of that?

Sounds like you’re hung up in the weird emotionally abusive relationship that far too many churches push on people.

Run! Run far away from it, and don’t look back. You need to accept the fact that when you die, it is indeed “fade to black”. Once you accept that it’s no longer scary. Then maybe, just maybe, you can cheer up and enjoy your life.

Darth Vader couldn't accept that people die and we all see how that went.
If I only I got into Star Wars...always feel left out when friends reference it haha.

If you two ever have the time, read the book of Ecclesiastes. Everything we are debating about the point of life, is discussed by the author who is having the exact same struggles/questions about life. Pretty crazy how it is virtually the same things we are discussing.

The first seven chapters of the book of Ecclesiastes describe all of the worldly things “under the sun” that the Preacher tries to find fulfillment in. He tries scientific discovery (1:10-11), wisdom and philosophy (1:13-18), mirth (2:1), alcohol (2:3), architecture (2:4), property (2:7-8), and luxury (2:8). The Preacher turned his mind towards different philosophies to find meaning, such as materialism (2:19-20), and even moral codes (including chapters 8-9). He found that everything was meaningless, a temporary diversion that, without God, had no purpose or longevity.

Chapters 8-12 of Ecclesiastes describe the Preacher’s suggestions and comments on how a life should be lived. He comes to the conclusion that without God, there is no truth or meaning to life. He has seen many evils and realized that even the best of man’s achievements are worth nothing in the long run. So he advises the reader to acknowledge God from youth (12:1) and to follow His will (12:13-14).

Interesting to see material like this in the Bible.

Vader was having dreams about his wife dying and used the dark side to try to save her. Yoda warned him that death is a natural part of life, and he needs to accept this. He also lost his mother in a violent manner.

Haha...I have never experienced that in my life, thankfully. I am super excited to spend eternity with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Couldn't imagine my life without Him.

I often try to tell people around me that their lives would have no purpose if they didn't know me but they tell me I am an egotistical maniac. :)

Eternity? Really? What will eternity feel like? And will you really spend it with a 2,000 year old Jew? Billions of xians have died before you will, and they all want time with JC. I bet the line to see him is crazy long. Then you probably get to the front and you get a quick meet and greet, and his bodyguards usher you along. Seems boring.

Resurrection won’t be like we live today, according to Jesus and Paul.

18 Then some Sadducees came to Jesus. (Sadducees believe that no one will rise from death.) They asked him a question: 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote that if a married man dies and had no children, his brother must marry the woman. Then they will have children for the dead brother.20 There were seven brothers. The first brother married but died. He had no children. 21 So the second brother married the woman. But he also died and had no children. The same thing happened with the third brother. 22 All seven brothers married the woman and died. None of the brothers had any children with her. And she was the last to die. 23 But all seven brothers had married her. So at the time when people rise from death, whose wife will she be?”

24 Jesus answered, “How could you be so wrong? It’s because you don’t know what the Scriptures say. And you don’t know anything about God’s power. 25 When people rise from death, there will be no marriage. People will not be married to each other. All people will be like angels in heaven.26 Surely you have read what God said about people rising from death. In the book where Moses wrote about the burning bush, it says that God told Moses this: ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ 27 So they were not still dead, because he is the God only of living people. You Sadducees are so wrong!”

Forever...my mind can't comprehend eternity, cause my mind is finite, and cant wrap my brain around what it means to be outside of time.

Where do you get your information of what heaven will be like? Haha, nothing you said is biblical. The Bible says it will be paradise (among many other things). Sign me up for that any day of the week.

In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2-3).

The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst” (Revelation 21:19-20).

The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass” (Revelation 21:21).

The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there)” (Revelation 21:23-25).

The same Abraham that was going to murder his son? I don't want a seat neat that guy.
I do want a seat next to him.

Another instance where God changed the course of history. False religions required baby sacrifices. One might argue we have seen a return of that in modern era.

Or you could be like a normal person and not think about killing anyone. Always with the extremes around here.

That might be the response from someone who lives post-Abraham in the modern Western world who does not appreciate history. But, Abraham did not have that luxury. He lived when it was common to kill your children for the “gods.” He was conditioned and God taught him and the culture after him a powerful lesson. God does not require human sacrifice. It was a revolutionary message. Abraham was faithful and ready. Ready, because human sacrifice was expected for gods. God showed him that was an evil false lie and said people who need to sacrifice can sacrifice animals instead. It’s not a simple story written by people of low IQ. It is revolutionary and was world changing.

I grew up in the church and was a history major in college. But yeah, I dont know history. You're just giving the same rote answers I've heard all my life. None of us know the truth.

If you learned that in church or in a history class in college, then why did you make the comment about a “normal” person not killing?

A “normal” person would kill in Abraham’s day. Did your history classes teach you otherwise?

My history classes did not involve the bible. That was religion class. Your arrogant stance is not making your religion appealing. I have no problem with faith. You sound brainwashed.

Sounds like more of the made-up nonsense, just like the talking snake, the magic zoo boat, and the wizard behind the curtain that controls everything.

It’s does fascinate me though. How people can be made to believe so many absurdities. And the ones about heaven are best of them all. Your religion tells you to hang onto that belief, and you’ll be rewarded…..

After you’re dead.

The ultimate con job.

Unpack those claims. What sounds brainwashed? I won’t ask about the arrogant comment, because I also believe you sound arrogant. It may be the nature of these conversations. But, what is brainwashed about my comments?

And if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. It won't matter.

I have a beautiful wife. Three beautiful daughters. A great family, great friends, have been able to travel all over, go to sporting events all over the country, have a great job, a great house, and the list could continue. If God doesn't exist, then by any earthly metric you want to use, my life is great. And then I will fade to black. If I am wrong, I have had a great life. If I am right, I am spending eternity in paradise. Any way you slice it, I am covered. 2/2. No roll of the dice.

If you are wrong, well the complete opposite of what I posted.

Do you really need the Bible to tell you killing people is wrong? Are you an ex serial killer? (I'm joking)
That isn't his point. I think his point is, If everything is "random", and if there is no meaning to life, then why is there any right or wrong? Who decides? The mob? Even moreso if there is nothing after this.

Sounds like you have a good life. I’m happy for you. Seriously!

If I’m right, I get to enjoy many of the same good fortunes you have described, with none of the bad side effects of religion. No fear of being tortured for eternity for simply not buying into the bullshit. My Sundays are free. And I don’t have to pay 10% of my gross income to an organization that feeds me comforting lies.

Yep, we got rid of the Emperor, although it took 3 episodes. That is a positive.

Then Disney took over and destroyed the franchise with their gravity bombs in space. That is a negative.

There are people still killing children to this day. And it is mostly for the god of self and $$. yet some people claim we are so much "smarter".

It’s been said half a dozen times in this thread. Now will be said once more. The burden of proof lies with those that make a claim. It is not the job of others to disprove your claim.

Prove the claim.
