Do wealthy Americans pay enough in taxes? While some lawmakers propose raising taxes on the United States’ highest earners to help fund other initiatives or reduce the federal deficit, there are questions as to how much progress that might yield or if tax law could be targeted more effectively.

Whether the rich and wealthy pay their “fair share” is a subjective question but government data shows that they do pay the most in volume. For tax year 2021, the most recent available data, the top 1% of earners paid nearly 46% of taxes, according to an analysis by the National Taxpayers Union, a nonprofit that favors lower taxes and a simpler code.

The top 5% pay more than 65% of federal income taxes, the highest 10% pay 75% of them and the top 25% are accountable for 89%. The bottom half of earners, who make below $46,627 a year, paid just 2% of federal personal income tax, according to the report.

Like I said, income taxes.

This from Trump should be interesting with the above:

"White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt added that there will be a concerted push for no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security for seniors, no tax on overtime pay, tweaking the caps on SALT, nixing the breaks for billionaire sports team owners, and ending the carried interest loophole."

Could be Trump on Pubs.

They can’t touch social security with budget reconciliation, so will be interesting to see what they do. I suppose they could eliminate income tax on tips and overtime potentially, but they won’t be able to eliminate the 6.2% social security tax for the employee or employer.

I think they can probably eliminate income tax on social security as part of reconciliation, but democrats will challenge it because it’s Trump.

They may need to start the “no income tax on tips” messaging, because nothing is happening outside of the reconciliation process.

Globalization certainly played its role in the dispariyt. But would we (you) be richer?

I don't think so. The bottom 50% of Americans are significantly richer than the bottom 50% of any other country or region, and our middle class is absurdly rich compared to any other middle class.

The "problem" is that the same is true of the rich. If we increased taxes on their assets, is that going to make all of us richer? I doubt it, not as much as taxing everyone less, government wasting less would. That's tried and true.

Only our bottom 10% are worse off.
The gap between richest & poorest here continues to grow because the poorest don't care that they're poor. They either spend every penny or choose not to make anything. So everyone else moves further ahead of them. Me, I don't care that they're poor either. It's a conscious choice. Even as far as the bottom 10% here go, they can get so many bennies that they're still better off than same group most anywhere else.

Ending the War on Christians:

- Task force to end anti-Christian weaponization of government
- End and rectify any "unlawful and improper anti-Christian conduct" or policies, especially instituted by the Biden administration's agencies

The order comes after the ICC has targeted the U.S. and Israel.

- Financial & visa sanctions on people who assist in ICC investigations of U.S. citizens or allies
- Declares that the ICC is a threat to U.S. sovereignty and the Constitution

Needs to do the same with the Noachide laws in a bill that GHWBush signed in 1991n as the laws are unconstitutional

This will all balloon the deficit further. MAGA doesn't GAS.

Will be fun to see how much power Trump has over Congress Pubs. Delicious in fact.

Congress controls the purse.... Not the executive branch.
So now Trump is getting rid of waste of taxpayer dollars in one agency and creating another. 🤡

Further proof, you only get enraged based on who does it

Why can’t we just raise taxes on the upper class? Why is that never an option?

Mikey,
Single taxpayer making over $626,350 pays 37% fed tax of each dollar of ordinary income over this amount. 37% seems like a painfully high rate to me. When you add state and local taxes, this could be as high as 40%.

I’m happy we are focusing on wasteful spending now.

Naturally, most Canadians (except the quebecois) are very patriotic, as they should be. I don’t seriously think we’d ever adopt any new territories.

Would love to see us seize other properties owned by foreign entities, like the Chinese and Russians.

Like the mine Clinton allowed to be sold to the Russians during the Obama administration?

You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about. Even less so when it comes to “the law” than any other topic you don’t know anything about.
Yeah the judges have no idea about the laws but you do. 🤣
C'mon Bill.... At least say something that makes a tiny bit of sense.

Not my issue at all (that i vote on) but who gets a choice about the baby?

It's weird to think but maybe the choice is made before conception... that taking the chance on conceiving for a little excitement today is worth the risk of decades of responsibility? Don't know where that thought came from...

I spend zero minutes a day clicking on nutty sites that make lots of money on gullible fools believing insane sh**.
Every time you click on those sites, they make $$$ and you get a little more ignorant.
MSM is bias but it's better than the crap you are parroting that is just insane... by design.

So, if you never click on said sites, such as X, how do you know for certain that they are nutty sites full of crap?

We don't believe you, Village Idiot.

90% of your nonsense sounds like what Margaret from Facebook posted. And you then come here to screech it out, like a retarded toddler, that it was your career and life to babysit.

Makes sense, actually.

These morons seem to think These guys just have their billions sitting in a bank account at PNC with a debit card.
Actually, I’m well aware of how diversified their portfolios are. It could be paranoia, but I think my concerns are just. For starters, future monopolies will be easier to create with this consolidation of wealth, especially since the courts haven’t had the teeth to bust them in recent time.

Something affecting the middle class now is housing. Starter homes are going for 200k plus in Stanford and Lancaster. There’s an LLC based out of Toronto that owns 70k starter homes in the US.

Middle class was responsible for 62% of income (which I realize is different that assets) in 1970. Upper class was 29%.
Middle class now is 43% and upper class is 48%. Is the upper 10% just that much more productive now?

Middle class used to have twice the wealth as the 1% thirty years ago. Now the top 1% own more than all of middle class combined.

So I appreciate anyone that can answer this, but why are republicans not concerned about the trend? Why can’t democrats and republicans work together to strengthen our middle class again? Is DOGE alone enough to balance this out? What else would you guys recommend?

Yea, you're the DA. Just because you can buy big sizes/volume at WM doesn't mean the truly poor can afford those. They more than anyone buy the small sizes because that's all they got money/stamps for. They can't buy the small sizes/numbers at Costco, can they? Not complicated, but too much for you.

Dude, have you ever been to a Sam's club or Costco?

I can assure you, the food stamps are flying out the door.

Hell, half of the small business owners who shop there use the food stamp cards of their patrons, who trade them for smokes and booze, etc, for cents on the dollar to the Bodega owner.

Biden’s government paid Gallup for false or favorable polls, it appears.

How can this not be worth prison?

This whole mess is so big that it’s impossible to even know where to begin administering justice.

Imo that fake polling was to cover up the cheating. They maybe got 25% of the vote. Maybe. The rest is completely fake. Thats why they needed the fake everything so people wouldn't question.

Given Hollywood's insanity, is there any doubt usaid funded them too? They had to know noone would watch woke trainwrecks like the female Ghostbusters etc. No way they make that crap unless theyre backstopped.

😅
i hope the dems do challenge eliminating ss income tax = another nail in the coffin

Trump should just say forget about the buyouts and fire everyone.

SCOTUS needs to reign in these corrupt judges and their injunctions.
Good to see you are against checks and balances.... Almost as nice to see that comment as your one this morning when you indicated everyone in the DC area should have their property seized and then they would have to prove they got their income for legitimate sources. Guilty until proven innocent!!!!
