Sam this was the only way it could be done.
Not true. It may have taken more time/effort to sort it out but it could have been done correctly.
As is, the illegality of this process may actually extend the life of USAID. Courts are involved now.
Like almost everything Trump does, it is a chaotic mess.

I am calling bullshit on this. Whenever we seem to cut taxes more people buy shit made overseas, which is then used by China and other countries to finance our debt (which grows it).

Until we structurally work to change our economy (increase manufacturing, taxing the f out of China) the debt isn't going NOWHERE.

Then use tariffs on overseas goods instead of an income tax. Or reinstate DPAD or other domestic incentives. Middle class is already suffering the most from the inflation driven purely by government spending. Raising taxes on them because the government spends to much money, which has already killed them with inflation, is insane.

I don’t disagree with you regarding spending. It needs to be cut significantly. But holding the middle class hostage as we careen towards a cliff is not going to help anything.

I'm assuming This will be addressed over the course of this year, one would think.

If you have faith in the Republican congress’ ability to accomplish things, then yes.

If you think the republicans are going to **** around, increase defense spending, then lose the slim majority in the house (through resignations or lefty shenanigans) before getting tax reform done like I do, then no.

We don't need a tax cut until we bring down spending. Enough with the deficits. It's the same as a tax.
I don't disagree. Just reporting some data.

Never did understand where the spend cuts for SS & tips no taxes was coming from. But then we know Trump has a huge mouth.

On January 1, 2026, if no legislation passes, you are getting a significant tax increase. That will be a disaster for the middle class.
I think he was referring to cuts beyond the current levels that need to be voted in to continue. Maybe not. But I agree with you.

Why can’t we just raise taxes on the upper class? Why is that never an option?

So do you agree there should be zero gov’t funding for abortions? Also that removal of funding is not the same as infringement on anyone’s rights?
Absolutely. Government healthcare should not be involved with funding abortions unless it is a medically necessary procedure or falls in the range of typically acceptable exceptions.
Removing all access to abortion is dangerous to a mother's health in certain instances.

I think almost all conservatives agree with this and I think you'd be shocked to find that your party doesn't, certainly not progressives.

That's a very reasonable take that I certainly agree to.

Note: typically acceptable exceptions is probably the key here. Changing your mind at month 8 isn't one of them.

People defending this are going to look real stupid. Too many eyes looking now and they didn't have a chance to scrub the evidence.

What's funny is THIS IS scrubbed. It has to be. They knew this was coming for about 75 days. Why would they not? Did they think he'd be dead by now? I can't believe that they haven't already scrubbed info from this

Why can’t we just raise taxes on the upper class? Why is that never an option?

Contrary to left wing messaging, the Trump tax cuts were a significant benefit for individuals and small businesses across the board. In order to pass those cuts, they had to sunset certain provisions to play the budget game. Absent any legislation, taxes on pass through entities (vast majority of small businesses) go up over by 10% points. Not a 10% increase. Top marginal rates go from (effectively) 29.6% on pass through income to 39.6%. Couple that with the limitations on ability to deduct interest (which has skyrocketed), loss of bonus depreciation and loss of immediate R&D expensing, and you’re killing the middle class.

Sane people view today’s tax environment as the baseline. Meaning an extension of TCJA would be scored at $0 budget impact.

“Deficit hawks” who are cutting off their nose to spite their face, view extension of today’s tax policy as an expense.

Hardline “deficit hawks” want republicans to find ways to pay for extension of the current rates plus any additional cuts which is going to be near impossible with the slim house majority. Especially when EO tariffs, DOGE cuts and other revenue raisers/expense savings aren’t counted for purposes of budget reconciliation.

Edit: there are other increases in the middle class I didn’t mention in the first paragraph. Just focused on the worst.

I'm sure all the poor kids around the world going hungry tonight because of Trump's insanity think you are hilarious.

You abject IGNORAMUS!!

ALL the poor kids around the world are HUNGRY BECAUSE this shit was funded in the first place under THE LIE, THE GUISE of feeding the hungry as one thing this dept was set up to do.

DEI education DOES NOT put rice in the mouth of starving people. DEI plays don't. Neither does a grant paying men to have sex with men.

WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU THAT YOU CANT UNDERSTAND THAT? THAT YOU REFUSE TO LOOK AT IT FOR WHAT IT IS? If you are a Christian as you have said you are, get right with God, because this self-delusion and rejection of truth IS NOT it.

They pay more than you believe. Keep raising taxes on the upper class, and you will see the rest slowly suffer.

Well some of the "q" people I know said at the time that "they let the steal happen so they could catch them in the act and reveal everything" but at the time I was pissed to hear that was their strategy. I stopped trusting any info from that group early on because they seemed like a cult (not that some aren't still, I don't know). Looks like this was the plan all along instead of him winning. Nothing like this could've been done before now.

So the idea of big tax cuts appears to be blowing in the wind. House Pubs can't even make the current tax rates permanent, much less cut taxes on tips & SS, because Pub deficit hawks won't go for it w/o more spending cuts (Good for them.). Then Senate Pubs plan to put off tax cuts till late in the year. So much for campaign promises.

I'm glad you clarified your position in a subsequent post. This post could be interpreted (a huge failing of online/email communications) as a soft 'I told you so' with your obvious dislike of Trump and his campaigning strategies. Which would mean you'd be happy that the tax cuts weren't going to remain and Americans will have to suffer under higher tax rates starting in 2026, just so you could be 'right'. If I interpreted your later posts, that's not what this post is doing - merely reporting current situational facts, which could change in the tuture.

Very few things irk me as much as an individual who has to be right so much that they actively hope something awful occurs so that they can look smart/right rather than realizing how many people are hurt by the situation. Like far too many people I've encountered who have somewhat secretly applauded the wildfire devastation in LA because of Liberals/Newsom/Green New Deal policies. They can pat themselves on the back for being right while glossing over the human suffering caused by the wrongheadedness of CA policies.

As I said above, I'm glad you're not one of those people. I don't always agree with you, but, many times, you present a third viewpoint vs the stock Dem/Rep ones.

Income taxes. Not all taxes.

Do wealthy Americans pay enough in taxes? While some lawmakers propose raising taxes on the United States’ highest earners to help fund other initiatives or reduce the federal deficit, there are questions as to how much progress that might yield or if tax law could be targeted more effectively.

Whether the rich and wealthy pay their “fair share” is a subjective question but government data shows that they do pay the most in volume. For tax year 2021, the most recent available data, the top 1% of earners paid nearly 46% of taxes, according to an analysis by the National Taxpayers Union, a nonprofit that favors lower taxes and a simpler code.

The top 5% pay more than 65% of federal income taxes, the highest 10% pay 75% of them and the top 25% are accountable for 89%. The bottom half of earners, who make below $46,627 a year, paid just 2% of federal personal income tax, according to the report.

Obama had energy czar Kerry
Joe had border czar Harris
we have the twerps. They serve at the pleasure of the President in exec branch.
3. Specifically state and footnote these rules.
4. They are demon Savages.
Bottom line; DRAIN THE SWAMP!

1. As always, he's completely wrong and an idiot.
2. He's a liar and totally against exposing waste.
2b. They are authorized, have clearance, and are part of an official agency.
3. Any agency can be paused while under investigation, as well as outgoing expenditures. Guarding the people against illegal activity and fraud IS constitutional. Protecting their property and THEIR money is one of the FEW delegated tasks of the govt. Fraud is not protected by the constitution.
4. I'm in favor of "accountable Palestine." They need to pay their own way and construct an economy built on something other than free money and terrorism. If they're not willing to do that, they should be expelled from the region to a place where they can do that. Where is their problem.
5. The ONLY WAY to eliminate waste is to turn off the tap at the source. That's the beginning. Then you find the damage to the system that resulted in the waste. Cut out the bad and replace it with good, solid material. Then YOU HAVE TO KEEP MAINTAINING the system so it doesn't start to hemorrhage again.

I agree with you that trans education and other non-vital services is a misuse of taxpayer dollars. You haven't heard me defend that at all.
Got no problem with trans people (other than sports) but that shouldn't be a government funded thing.
Like anything related to the government or even large corporations.... (Money can be mismanaged in the private sector too) a money honey pot with no oversight is always a red flag.
But just because money was mismanaged on one thing, doesn't mean it was spent inappropriately on other things that were the original mission of USAID.
Just would like to see more Congressional oversight and intentional cutting of services that doesn't screw starving kids in the process.
Nothing non Christian about that stance.
