Well, the standard of whether someone should be confirmed as AG is not whether they have committed crimes - plenty of ethics violations result in a finding of improper behavior that is not criminal.
I always go to Turley on legal matters:

Imo he can do all that plus have someone that will actually be effective. Instead he chose gaetz.
My standard of whether someone should be confirmed as AG is (1) have they committed any crimes and (2) will they destroy every last bit of corruption and lawlessness within the institution in such a way that it cannot be rebuilt efficiently.
If we’re going to go one “ethical” standards, that should then apply across the board. Liz Cheney and her family made careers lying through their goddam teeth for profit and they were front and center or the democrat presidential campaign. Adam Schiff is going to be a senator. Countless people framed Trump for treason, lied about the laptop, etc. and are still prominent voices in the democrat party.
Now is not the time for the high road. Trump tried that in 2016. Now is time to beat them into submission, no holds barred.
Gaetz was effective in ousting McCarthy as speaker.
Hes been just as effective as Gowdy grandstanding in hearings.
By no means is Gaetz the best pick. Not even close. But I get it. And I’m giving a bit of deference on this one. All the picks aren’t perfect, but he’s a hell of a lot better than Sessions.
Yeah spare me the outrage over his nominees, they are his nominees. It’s ok not to like it but there is no basis not to confirm them. Look at this last batch of department heads that got through the nomination process. Don’t recall all the concern then

There’s six GOP Senators that are 110% against him right now. A dozen probable no’s…right now.
A couple hard line no’s MAY be persuaded. Could get some unity with the rest if others fall in line. Zero chance of getting Murkowski and Collins. Think very unlikely Tillis is persuaded.
If anyone can, Tim Scott is who you want in this position.

Let me be clear. I do not believe anything that comes out of the mouth of a politician in DC. Theirs or ours. Politicians stand up a Kangaroo Court with anything they do when the goal is to eject or demonize.
The GOP House has been out to get Gaetz because of the Speaker McCarthy ordeal. So anything they cook up will be retribution for him not being a team player. I agree with this assessment, and I think Trump knew this. I believe he was trolling the hard left and even the RINOs with Gaetz.
So much of the energy in Washington is now focused on him that lots of other things are happening with very little public outcry or resistance. So, Trump lets Gaetz barrel along, then pulls the chair out from under the critics, maybe by letting Gaetz take a Florida senate seat, which he can truthfully say he prefers, and its a net win for the Trump administration.

So, do you think ppl who abuse their power & go after their political opponents & commit treason, in this country, should get a free pass? They could/should be tried for treason based on the border, alone. Never mind spying on a sitting President in the Oval Office. They have shit all over the Constitution for years, with zero recourse. Enough is enough. And, what I listed isn’t even the half of it.
It’s not petty revenge or retribution to punish traitors, accordingly. Those who committed the acts knew very well what the consequences could be & DESERVE what they get. But, they think they are above that. You have to make an example of them & send the message that bs like this will not be tolerated, here. Let them off or give them a slap on the wrist & the exact same thing will happen, again. And, probably soon. You saw how grateful they were in 2017 when Trump chose the high road.
