That answer isn't sufficient. Monetary policy will be decided by someone. Who do you suggest once the Feds are shut down.

**I think you mean Thomas Sowell.

For instance, Sowell wants no government intrusion, wants the return of the gold standard and simply allow the open market to dictate how things sort out. I will say I was very disappointed to read much of Sowells thoughts on this. He approaches it superficially and is often wrong by omission of key data.

Since this isnt a Ukraine issue, i will respond in the political thread.

This sounds alot like the socialism argument of "but they havent tried REAL socialism".

The fed is the single biggest grifting entity in the history of the planet. They take our money and loan it back to us. Then they tinker with rates to "slow inflation". Their version of "slowing inflation" is based upon making it too expensive for people to buy things, causing them to slow spending.

Think about the audacity of individuals spending their money as they wish. The bane of the fed

The real answer to the problem of inflation as always is stop diluting the money supply by cranking out dollars. But noone can do that because it means government has to control its spending, which they certainly wont do.

Getting rid of the fed ends that hidden taxation of inflation and forces government to operate correctly by spending the money it has or raising taxes; the latter of which draws the ire of the voting populous thereby naturally keeping spending in check.

Canada, the Netherlands, and New Zealand all have more legally enshrined rights than we do, just as a handful of examples.

The article I read about Harris' proposed federal price gouging proposal mentioned that a number of states have price gouging laws. But those are tied to states of emergency. For example, here in FL it is illegal for businesses to raise prices more than a certain percentage during a state of emergency (hurricane).

I also read a prior congressional price gouging bill (from the last few years) introduced by Elizabeth Warren that just would outlaw "excessive" prices. This is absurd, and I imagine would be held to be unconstitutionally void for vagueness, and maybe illegal on other grounds. But, you're right in your post that in the short term this will appeal to those who want to blame someone other than the current administration for inflation.

Agree it's all nonsense. There are already anti price fixing laws in place which prevents collusion. The free market will always force people to come into line on expected costs.

It repulses me how the current liberal notion is constantly demonizing companies or businesses for making a profit. Of course they make a profit otherwise they go out of business. Noone is in business just to exist just as noone works at a job for free.

Of course once they crunch down their margin to nothing and the businesses threaten to quit, here come the bailouts and subsidies. Those in turn raise inflation (hidden taxation).

So in the end the consumer ends up with no more buying power (maybe even less), companies lose autonomy, and our never ending national spending continues into the stratosphere. All while gaining exactly nothing. Just in the hopes of winning some voters.

But then you have JD Vance speaking out against corporate greed and talking positively about labor unions. If you are a traditional Chamber of Commerce Republican, Trump is the better choice on economics, but it is not as clear cut as it used to be.

I’d be surprised if the reporting that RFK wants to join with Kamala is true, have no idea though.

He just watched the Kamala handlers overthrow the sitting president of the United States. They’re the exact same people who murdered his dad and uncle. His positions would have no place in the Harris administration (or any D administration at this point).

Rumors are he was in discussions with Trump until his deep state groomed son recorded their phone call and leaked it.

As I said, they did not sue the head of state. You can't sue the President. Read the article and see who the defendants are.
** KA -- BOOM **

Another day, another lawsuit against the evil, corrupt Biden administration...

You know the drill, Señor. Yes, that's right. Piss off.

The RNC made me a little nervous. Direct incentives, like specific credits or breaks, are never as good, in my opinion, as fostering an environment where everyone can thrive. Pandering to unions and attacking “corporate greed” is not going to fix the structural issues.

We need major tax cuts and massive reductions to federal spending. To the extent our country is going to suffer a little in the short term to fix the economy, I’d love to see a large portion of that suffering localized to DC and the surrounding suburbs. Parasites.

Thats where a more informed voter can tell whats being said vs what will be done. History of activity shows very clearly how each will actually swing once the votes are counted.

I have no clue if he is targeting any particular industry, but I am all for some industries being under the gun, especially something like big pharma. Not because they make insane money, but because their entanglement with the fda gives them unfair advantage over most. Just look at how much money they made on the covid shots and with zero legal liability, which is am important factor of free market.

Interesting...

I use Yahoo mail for personal email. And usually the first listing is an Ad, and then about every page is a different Ad. But if it's an ad that you don't like, or you are tired of seeing that same one, it has a way to click it and get a different ad.
Well, except now!
Yesterday (& now today) I am getting the SAME ad on every page, AND there is no way to click on it to have Yahoo replace it with a different ad.
What is the ad you might ask? It is for the "Harris Victory Fund".

I get that they can pay for an ad, or lots of ads, just like any other candidate or business that has the money.
But.... that for this ad Yahoo has taken away my ability to replace it with a different ad, that is not cool.

What went down? The democrats with the most power put pressure on Biden to quit. Sort of like how Nixon was forced out of office. There is no comparison with the assassinations of the Kennedys.

RFK believes the CIA and deep state murdered his dad and uncle. You may believe it was a lone gunman with no government involvement.

But powerful democrats pushing out Nixon, ending Biden’s campaign, shooting the Kennedy’s, framing Trump for treason, etc. all have a common thread.

Now this is an interesting tag.
It means a specific thing - low taxes, lower regulation of companies, anti-union, etc. Not tied up in the culture wars. These people have always been Republicans (or at least have for more than 100 years) but now you've got the head of the UAW speaking at the Rep convention.

He was fine when he entered office.
Hell, he kicked Trump's ass in the 2020 debates. His decline was gradual until the last year.
He was fine at the SOTU address in March. Y'all were saying he was on drugs he was so effective that night. 🤣
I've had family members with dementia. Changes occur gradually till they suddenly accelerate.
That's why the debate caught the Dem party off guard and led to his resignation from the nomination.
You never cease to amaze me.....And not in a good way.

I posted that before I saw his tweet on the matter.

Edit: I’ve seen that video posted dozens of times, but it’s hilarious to see Trump actually post it.

Fine, but again, who or what determines monetary policy.

Read several pieces today about how Trump has to make this race about issues because if it becomes a clash of personalities he loses. I think he needs to shakeup the campaign team down the stretch, just like he did in 2016.
He's been told that for eight years & hasn't changed. Won't now. MAGA owns it.

When will George Soros and other Liberal filth be taken into custody for sponsoring and allegedly paying for chaos ? A good cop fighting for his life in MO.

Liberals are throwing their lives away arguing with conservatives. There's nothing you could say, ever, to chnage our mind or even get us to have any respect for you.

Personally, I think Trump should di the debate, pull out those receipts, amd tell the American people, 'see what I'm dealing with here, folks? And I'm still here fighting for you. Kamala, care to have a debate where I get Tucker Carlson as the moderator?'

I think Trump should say he'll do the debate, then put on a Walz mask and pull out at the last minute. It can be both a civics lesson on responsibility, and an instruction on how to reduce unwanted childbirths without killing babies. He could wear knee pads as a nod to Harris' only campaign position and how that prevented at least one more.

That is, if anyone on the left would get any of it.

Fine, but again, who or what determines monetary policy.

No one, as it should be. We have taxes and spending. If those cant balance, Congress must increase taxation in full view of everyone rather than doing rounds on talk shows and podcasts while shadow taxing everyone via printing presses.

In fact, i hope lawsuits capitalize on the recent decision tearing down the Chevron doctrine and undo these massive administrative agencies that literally run our country. Thats why Congress get to just fly around and be celebrities, because these agencies ran everything.

We will be much better off when the people responsible for policy are the ones with their butts in the sling rather than blaming some faceless people.

Y’all remember when Sam would try to tell us he was/is against violent rioting of all kinds and how Jan 6th was just as bad as the MONTHS of burning/looting/killing of innocent businesses/people? He’d always say both were just as equally bad, but he’d never be able to vote for Trump because of mUh JaN 6tH.

Now he’s gonna support and vote for a ticket that 1) raised bail money for those violent rioters and 2) that happily allowed a major city in a state he governed to be burned to the ground.

Disgusting human being.

I would be shocked if anyone is telling trump to act like trump. Im pretty sure thats just who he is as we could see for years.

Its pretty crazy that hes the only candidate Republican that could possibly lose this election but he demanded to be the candidate so here we are.

So we did have a hand in it. Lol. (No time to read the article right now)

I doubt any story put out at this point. It's more likely the string pullers for this admin set the whole thing up and executed it. We'll only find out the details about what really happened if Trump gets re-elected.

Yepn but Calhoun did quit.

He was, I need to look again, I know Calhoun quit a few months before Jackson's term was up and Van Buren was elected with him but unsure if he was appointed prior to being elected. Might not have been added until the actual inauguration.

Apologies, not sure in that point.

But my point to the Village Idiot stands.

Gerald Ford was NOT elected VP after Agnew resigned.
There was no appointment to replace a VP till the 25th Amendment in 1967. Before it, the VP office stayed vacant & the Speaker was next in line for Prez.

True about Ford. I never questioned it. Recall watching when Ford was announced by Nixon as Agnew's replacement candidate.
