Wow, this is one thing wrong with the system. After we got married, we lived on a budget to the point of taking a clicker with us to the grocery store so we would not go over what we had to spend. My car was old, and it got me where I needed to go even though I wanted a newer one so bad. I will never forget the time we went to the store and as we were walking in, I seen a brand-new caddie with the temporaries still in the back window. I thought how happy the new owner was. We were doing our usual up and down the isles using our clicker until we reached our limit then headed to the check-out. In front of us was a person who had two baskets piled high with groceries and I thought damn that's got to cost a-lot, only to see this person pay with food stamps. Didn't take long to check out our measly basket so as we were walking to our car, this person was loading the trunk of that new caddie, that's a true story. I also worked with a guy whose wife was a successful businessperson and son was top dog of the state police who would buy food stamps from people who wanted cash, and he was buying them cheap. It wasn't too long after till they changed over to cards supposedly it was not so much an embarrassment to people using them and it stopped people from buying. I'm all for the people who actually need this, but there is always a rotten bastard to ruin it for everybody!
A Michigan woman's welfare benefits were drastically reduced after her income from TikTok and ownership of a 2024 BMW came to light, sparking a viral debate on welfare eligibility.
She was told to sell her luxury car to qualify for a review of her benefits, which included a significant cut in food stamps from nearly $4,000 to $88 a month:
"I received a DHS letter in the mail this morning and I just now opened it. Somebody reported me to the State of Michigan because I'm making money on TikTok and I drive a 2024 BMW.
They have cut my food stamps from almost $4,000 a month down to $88 a month. They are telling me if I want a review that I have to sell my car. So you're telling me if you are on welfare, food stamps, cash assistance, Section 8, you can't drive a nice car. They are forcing me to sell my brand new BMW or I lose almost $4,000 in food stamps.
Not only that, they have completely taken my cash assistance away. They are telling me that Section 8 will no longer be paying 95% of my rent, only 10%. So I will have to pay a little over $400 a month now instead of $60 a month. "
