I’m pretty sure that people standing around in Paris with machine guns is common due to the country being overrun with the practitioners of the religion of peace. It was when I was there 7 years ago. Even in the Louvre.

As always with rightwing pundits, they're demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of the political process. This is just the first round, and both the National Rally and the "socialists" did better than expected, with Macron's centrists being the biggest losers. National Rally almost definitely isn't going to get an outright majority though, and the leader Bardella said he won't form a coalition, so very possibly the left could end up being the ones empowered by this as the remaining centrists would be looking to them instead of National Rally. Depends on if Macron candidates pull out in the second round and how those voters break, whether they flow more right or left.
